Chapter 2: Biological Mother of Two Children

In the quiet of the night, Eve felt a stifling discomfort in her chest, tossing and turning, unable to find sleep.

Bryan, with a shallow slumber, disturbed by her restlessness, uttered, "Eve."

"Have I disturbed you? I..."

"Leave."

Though softly spoken, the word held significant authority.

Eve, enduring the discomfort, reluctantly got up, took a moment to compose herself, and then dressed before leaving the master bedroom.

However, as she turned, she was abruptly startled.

"Yvonne..."

A little girl in pink pajamas stood at the doorway, frowning as she observed Eve.

"What were you doing in my dad's room?"

Given her delicate health, Eve couldn't afford any mood swings; her chest was already starting to ache.

"Why are you back?"

Auntie Tess had brought the two children back to the Evans family estate, mentioning a stay of a few days.

Unprepared for this, Eve was inadvertently caught by the little girl.

With hands on hips, Yvonne asserted, "Do I need your permission to come home?"

"That's not what I meant..."

"You're just our nanny!"

Eve, already in pain, felt an added sting from those words.

"What's wrong with your clothes?"

Eve lowered her gaze, only to discover that the top of her nightwear's two buttons was undone.

She hurriedly fastened them, explaining, "I just..."

"You slut!"

Eve widened her eyes, finding it hard to believe what she just heard.

"Yvonne, who taught you to say such things about me?"

"You want to be my stepmother, don't you?"

The little girl, with an air of knowing everything, was only six years old.

Eve took a deep breath, approaching gently, "You have school tomorrow; let me take you to bed."

"Stay away from me!"

Yvonne pushed her aside, a look of disgust on her face.

"I hate you, very, very much!"

With that, Yvonne glared at her fiercely and turned back to her own room.

Eve wore a bitter expression, standing outside the door for a long time.

She estimated that the little one should have fallen asleep before she finally pushed the door open and went in. She walked to Yvonne's bed and tucked her in.

Over the past year, the little girl had grown remarkably, both in height and maturity.

Some things seemed harder to conceal from her now.

"Sweetheart."

Eve bent down to kiss Yvonne, a face full of affection—this was her own daughter.

So, when Yvonne said she hated her, that moment was truly painful.

Painful and helpless, she didn't want things to be this way.

Returning to the room opposite, where there was a single bed next to a crib, she walked over quietly.

To her surprise, the little one on the bed had woken up at some point, playing with her tiny feet.

Seeing Eve, the little one giggled.

Eve couldn't help but smile, "Little Dave, my baby, you're back too?"

"Da... Da..."

The little one could only say "dad," making it her mantra.

Eve checked the diaper, teasing, "Little troublemaker, did you make a mess?"

"Da... Da..."

"Your dad won't take care of you; only mom..."

Eve's expression stiffened for a moment.

She was just the maid of the Evans family, even if these two children were hers, she couldn't let them call her mom.

It was strictly forbidden.

She had promised it to Bryan, only then could she bear these two children and stay by their side.

After playing with the little one for a while, she finally fell asleep just before dawn.

As a result, she woke up late.

In a hurry, Eve went downstairs, catching Auntie Tess and Bryan in conversation in the dining room.

Auntie Tess had served the Evans family for over thirty years, taking care of Bryan since he was a child.

Now, she was looking after the two children together with her.

"I heard her teaching Dave to call her mom. This woman is very cunning; you must be on guard."

"I'm aware."

"She's been by your side for too long, I'm afraid she might lose sight of her identity."

Auntie Tess was about to say more when she noticed Eve entering and gave her a disdainful glance.

"Yvonne is already at school, and you're just coming downstairs. You don't even prepare breakfast. Do you really think you're the mistress here?"

Eve looked at Bryan, who was seated at the head of the table, having his meal, seemingly oblivious to Auntie Tess's words.

Eve's heart felt a chill; there was no explanation after all.

She approached Bryan and poured him a glass of milk.

"You're like a hermit all day, annoying to look at."

Auntie Tess scolded a bit and went upstairs to check on little Dave.

After Bryan finished eating, Eve handed him his suit jacket.

"I didn't."

While fastening the buttons, she quietly defended herself.

Bryan cast a fleeting glance at Eve, his phoenix eyes carrying a hint of coolness.

"How long have you been with me?"

"Eight years." Her heart trembled.

"Indeed, too long."
