Chapter 7: A Legend Born

"This is an announcement from the Hero Association. The threat level is Tiger. All citizens, please stay clear of Broadstreet Avenue. I repeat, all citizens, stay clear of Broadstreet Avenue".

The sirens continued to wail in the distance, causing everyone in the vicinity to drop what they were doing and run away. Shouts and yells filled the air as citizens fled for safety. Unfortunately, some were unfortunate enough to fall down and be trampled in the chaos.

However, in the midst of this pandemonium, there was one person who ran in the opposite direction, forcefully pushing people aside as he made his way towards the monster. A scowl adorned his face.

Saitama had been living in City-Z for months and was starting to feel bored, so he had decided to take some time off and explore different cities and enjoy some sightseeing. He didn't bank on the fact that he would come across a monster here.

As he rounded a corner to a street, the flow of people subsided, revealing the monster in front of him. The creature's pink, spherical body was supported by multiple tentacles, while two long tentacles with claws extended from its form. Its face bore a human resemblance, yet its eyes were devoid of pupils.

Monster: Octopus Claw Man

Threat level: Tiger

Several disfigured corpses were scattered around it, with blood oozing from its claw-like hands. It had ensnared someone with its tentacles, causing them to cry out for help. Without hesitation, Saitama dashed towards the monster and delivered a punch to its face, inadvertently releasing the civilian from its grip.

"Get out of here!" he shouted, and the civilian began to run away. The monster then shifted its complete attention to its new opponent. The octopus-like monster flashed a wide smile, showcasing its eerie features, before suddenly slashing at Saitama.

He narrowly avoided the attack, almost losing his balance. He's fast! Taking advantage of his momentary clumsiness, the monster aimed a leftward strike towards his face. By some stroke of luck, Saitama managed to spot it at the last second and leaned his head backward . He was rewarded with a deep laceration on his cheek. Blood spurted out from the wound.

That... would've torn my face off. The realization hit him like a truck. This was no longer a game; it was a matter of life or death. Saitama blocked out the noise around him and focused solely on the monster in front of him. Adrenaline surged through his body, his heart raced, and his muscles tensed in anticipation.

This monster was undoubtedly the toughest opponent he had ever fought, but he was ready.

He snickered and lashed out with its tentacles. Saitama swiftly dodged, weaved, and then lunged towards the creature. With each step, he narrowly avoided the deadly strikes that could have easily shattered his body.

Closing in on the monster, it slashed at him in a scissor-like attack. Saitama bent his back backwards, evading the attack and leaped into the air.

Normal Kick

As soon as he touched down, his foot connected with the monster's face. A loud crack resonated, and that was all he needed to know that his attack could hurt it. Quickly dodging a claw swipe, he lunged back in and forcefully pressed his hands against its face, gouging out its eyeballs.

The monster growled and thrashed, trying to shake him off, but only succeeded when its tentacles wrapped around him, hurling him through the air. He tumbled around like a rag doll before crashing onto the roof of a car, denting it.

Saitama groaned ; his body felt numb yet filled with pain, but he refused to give up. Despite the circumstances, he pushed himself to rise to his feet. The monster's expression had already transformed into pure rage. It raised four tentacles, aiming to strike Saitama. With quick reflexes, he dodged out of harm's way.

Saitama sprang into action, swiftly maneuvering through a barrage of slashes aimed at him. He effortlessly leaped over one, gracefully ducked under another, rolled away from yet another one, and used a car as cover.

However, he didn't solely focus on defending himself. Saitama seized every opportunity to strike back at the monster, even resorting to hurling whatever he could get his hands on at it.

He stomped his foot near a manhole cover, causing the ground to crack and the manhole to float in the air for a moment. He grabbed hold of it and aimed at the monster before throwing it.

Normal Throw.

The manhole found its target as it hit the Octopus-monster in its face, blood sprouting from its mouth.

His victory was cut short as a claw caught him off guard from under a fallen car, leaving a deep laceration across his back. So it can stretch its arms, tricky bastard. Despite the pain, Saitama remained silent, refusing to show any sign of weakness.

He knew he had to end the fight quickly before his injuries incapacitated him. Scanning his surroundings, a plan began to form in his mind.

Glancing at the nearest lamppost, he made a mad dash towards it, evading some of the slashes with limited success. Despite the injuries, they were not as severe as the previous ones.

Upon reaching the lamppost, he grasped it firmly and pulled with all his strength. The structure creaked before uprooting, sending sparks flying everywhere.

Just in time, Saitama turned around to see two clawed hands lunging towards him. With precise timing, he smashed the lamppost on the arms, crushing them.

The monster howled in agony, futilely attempting to free its trapped arms. This distraction allowed Saitama to charge towards the Octopus-monster, only noticing him too little too late.

Saitama cocked his fist back, veins bulging in his arm and face as he gritted his teeth in preparation , putting all of his strength into his final attack.

Killer Move: Serious Series Serious Punch

Saitama roared a battle cry as he punched the monster. The effect was instantaneous as the monster's body exploded , showering the surroundings in gore and body parts.

I did it... A feeling of victory filled Saitama as he triumphed over his toughest opponent yet. However, the rush didn't last long as the adrenaline faded and the pain returned full force.

As he considered heading to the hospital, he heard whimpering nearby. Turning around, he discovered a man curled up in a fetal position, clenching his face as tears streamed down it.

Without a second thought, the hero ran towards the man.

Kenshiro's day started off horribly. First, he overslept and missed the alarm on his phone. Then, he was late for the train to the city center, causing him to miss the highly anticipated game launch he had been looking forward to, the "Heartbeat Hottie Sisters".

And for the icing on the cake, a monster just so happened to decide it was the perfect opportunity to start its rampage here. As if that wasn't enough, the monster slashed at one of his eyes.

Kenshiro wasn't sure how long he had been here, but he remained frozen in his spot, too afraid to move. His heart raced with anxiety and fear; it sped up when he heard the sounds of a battle nearby.

After what seemed like an eternity, the noise stopped, leaving behind an eerie silence. Did the fight end ? Was the monster defeated? Was it still alive? Was he next? Those were all the thoughts flowing through Kenshiro's head.

"Hey, it's okay! I took down the monster, you're safe." A voice interrupted his thoughts, prompting him to take a glance towards the source of the sound.

Standing in front of him was a man wearing a blue tracksuit, with the sun casting a shadow over him. "Is your eye okay? Can you see?" the man asked. " W-who are you?" Kenshiro asked nervously, unable to get a clear view of his savior.

Me? I'm a hero. Plain and simple," the man replied, crouching down to meet Kenshiro's eyes. He observed the man's disheveled appearance, with torn clothes, bruises, cuts, and a bruised eye. Some of his wounds were still leaking blood.

"Y-you're hurt.." Kenshiro trailed off, not understanding why this man was here helping him instead of seeking medical attention. "Oh, this? This is nothing. I've had worse before." The man lied. Not that Kenshiro knew.

"Name's Saitama, what's yours?" he asked, extending his hand to Kenshiro, who grasped it and stood up. "Kenshiro," he replied. "Alright, you should go to the hospital. With some luck , your eye should be fine," Saitama advised before walking away, leaving Kenshiro to watch the back of his hero disappearing over time.

Later then Kenshiro realized that he didn't thank his mysterious savior, a mistake that he would kick himself over for the foreseeable future.
