Regarding Thea's question, Lyla genuinely had no idea. Despite her high rank, she was only responsible for administrative tasks, and the core secrets of the A.R.G.U.S. were beyond her reach. Even if she did come into contact with them, they were always referred to by various code names, and she wouldn't know the specifics of what she handled.
She could only vaguely respond, "No, really, we don't have that. We are a government organization with compassion, conscience, and a sense of responsibility. We've never researched anything inhumane like poisonous gas."
Thea listened and guessed that Lyla probably dared not say more. She didn't want to press further; after all, Lyla didn't know the details. Thea would have to figure it out herself.
The two bid farewell and Thea went to find the research personnel of A.R.G.U.S. She wanted to see if there were any ready-made weapons she could creatively modify for the assault.
However, ideals are often lofty, and reality is harsh. Thea spent the entire afternoon bustling around but achieved nothing.
When it came to discussing poisonous gas, the scientists' heads shook like tambourines. No matter how Thea reasoned with them, they claimed to have no knowledge of it. Still, judging from their expressions, Thea knew they definitely had something, but they were tight-lipped about it. Lyla even stated that all agents were ready to sacrifice themselves, but they wouldn't disclose any information about the use of poisonous gas.
Seeing their firm stance, Thea felt helpless. Since they insisted on denying it, she reluctantly accepted their answer.
Poisonous gas was a dead end, so what about sonic weapons? After researching the load-bearing walls and various partition walls of the Arkham Asylum, they concluded that they were built with ample materials and craftsmanship. The walls were so thick that a C4 explosive capable of blowing up her command vehicle would probably only collapse half a wall in Arkham.
The walls could absorb 90% of sonic waves, making it impractical to use sonic weapons. Similarly, magnetic grenades were also abandoned.
Smoke bombs could be an option, but with the vast indoor space, they would need a giant smoke bomb to cover the entire area of nearly 100,000 square meters. At present, they don't have the technology for it.
Thea's head was spinning with ideas, but she couldn't come up with any practical solutions. Exhausted, she returned to her room, planning to gather everyone tomorrow for a brainstorming session.
Boom! Crash! Thea, exhausted from overthinking, was sleeping soundly without dreams when suddenly she heard the sound of explosions echoing in her ears.
Are they setting off fireworks? But it's not the New Year, though.
Opening her eyes, a vague thought crossed her mind. Could it be that there's another enemy attack? After all the turmoil last night, she couldn't believe that they'd be attacked again so soon.
In her mind, she cursed Commissioner Gordon for choosing such a crappy place. This place gets attacked every other day. What kind of place did he pick?
Hastily putting on her combat gear, she intermittently glanced out the window. There were occasional flashes of fire, but since the civilians had been evacuated from the campus in the afternoon, she didn't see any chaotic scenes.
Stepping out of her room, Thea breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing several key figures outside. She was afraid of them being captured again; rescuing teammates at night and sleeping during the day was not a lifestyle she could continue.
Just as she was about to say, "I don't care who the enemy is; I just want to know where they are," she saw Lyla, Gordon, and several agents pulling out their pistols and firing into the sky.
Who were they shooting at? Thea was about to ask when she looked up and saw a purple figure hovering in the sky, occasionally shooting greenish projectiles toward the ground.
Who's this? Thea's first reaction was that it was one of the minor bosses from Arkham. Judging by the appearance and equipment, this guy must be someone of significance.
Now, with everyone powerless against the enemy in the sky, Thea couldn't help but recall her daring solo assaults from last night. But then she thought, Wait a minute, isn't this guy charging in alone fearlessly? Isn't he afraid of being surrounded? Last night, she was so cautious. Could it be that the bosses in Gotham are this fearless?
Not bothering to ask for the name, Thea made a rough observation. This guy didn't seem too difficult to deal with. She signaled to the others, "Stop shooting; I'll take care of him." With that, she hopped onto her Glider and flew towards the unknown target in the sky.
Approaching closer, Thea could see that the person was wearing a purple outfit with stripes and holding a strange gun, continuously spraying greenish goo onto the ground.
Disgusting! Thea grimaced. Gotham's residents are quite the character, coming out dressed like this, not caring about aesthetics, just to cause trouble.
She hadn't noticed it from below, but from the sky, she could see that this person wasn't floating like her. Instead, he was using something akin to two flamethrowers strapped to his back, propelling himself forward every few seconds and momentarily staying in the air using the recoil force.
This person was using a jumping method, propelling themselves forward 20 meters each time and repeating the process when the kinetic energy ran out.
Moreover, Thea didn't know what fuel this person's flamethrowers were using. The exhaust was pitch black, and with each jump, they emitted large plumes of black smoke. Thea was sure that this person was causing the PM2.5 levels in the area to skyrocket.
Despite his unattractive flying style, this guy was still smiling smugly, which irritated Thea to no end. Seriously, what a joke! Thea felt that this guy was unwittingly lowering the average level of technology-based heroes or villains. Look at that Mr. Freeze guy from earlier. No matter how bad he was or how many people he killed, his equipment was futuristic and dazzling. But this guy? He was just embarrassing himself, yet he dared to show off in broad daylight!
Already sleep-deprived and feeling nauseous from this person's antics, Thea decided to teach him a lesson he wouldn't forget. She ascended in altitude and flew above the person's head.
However, given that this person's backside was emitting black smoke and spraying green liquid in front, Thea didn't want to risk getting any of it on herself. While the person was jumping around happily, Thea quietly positioned herself just behind and above him.
Dealing with this person using arrows was a bit of a waste since targeting airborne objects was difficult. Thea found an opportunity, and as he sprayed his green liquid toward the ground, she swiftly flew toward him.
"Who?" The person finally realized something was wrong when Thea got within a hundred meters. He was still wondering how Gotham had a flying hero when he saw two streaks of white light heading towards him.
Thea didn't know if the Batman team had dealt with this person before, but she didn't care to ask. Her methods suited her just fine.
This time, she didn't use arrows. When she was about a hundred meters behind him, she stomped on a mechanism with her feet, causing two thick iron chains to shoot out from both sides of her Glider, each with a special alloy arrowhead attached.
Two sharp arrowheads pierced the enemy's thigh and shoulder. Upon impact, each arrowhead split into three smaller ones, firmly anchoring the target.
"Ah!" Before the enemy's scream could finish, he was silenced by the rushing wind.
'You like flying, don't you? You seemed so happy flying around just now.' Thea decided to play the role of a do-gooder and take him for a ride!
