Chapter 51: Chapter 47 - Baldur vs Juggernaut

POV: Baldur

Korean War, 1951.

"HAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

"BOOOMMMM!" "BOOOMMMM!" "BOOOMMMM!" "BOOOMMMM!"

Each of his blows creates destruction wherever they land. Unfortunately for him, they all miss the target. From the beginning of the fight, he continues to attack me like an amateur while I dance around him, cutting him with every blow I deliver. They all heal within seconds, but it's enough to make Cain furious.

"Stay still, you damn insect"

I dodge another blow and cut his abdomen vertically, spreading more blood on the ground. Xavier, who was nearby, could only step back and watch the bloody battle. I think he'll intervene when his brother is about to die.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Cain's rage only grows. Then it finally happens, his body starts emitting a mist of red color. Cain grows a few inches, and I can feel his strength increasing. The diamond in my spear also shines, and I feel a force trying to take over me. Unfortunately, I took precautions against this—a small earpiece that can prevent telepaths from invading my mind. The Genosha scientists spent two years researching this until they managed to create it. It was initially created to deal with telepaths like Xavier, but to my surprise, it also worked against the entity's influence.

The red mist emanating from Cain's body must be the entity's way of ensuring that its avatars will fight when they meet. If I accepted being controlled, I could probably have a great increase in strength like Cain, but at the cost of my sanity. We would be two beasts biting each other until one falls, and with his great regeneration, I would surely die first. I must say that the Cyttorak gem is much more powerful than mine, which only offers firepower.

"HAAAAAAAAA!"

The wild beast finally makes its move and catches me by surprise this time. His speed has now increased ridiculously. He suddenly appears in front of me and strikes my face. The force of the blow compared to my previous enemies is terrifyingly different. I crash into the ground, creating a large crater, but Cain begins to strike blow after blow on my body, preventing me from moving.

Taking advantage of the brief time I have between blows, I emit light throughout my body, blinding Juggernaut for a second, enough time for me to get up and hit my spear in his chest. The blade pierces his body, but he ignores it and grabs my neck. When I feel the bone almost breaking, I shoot a burst of energy from the spear piercing his body, exploding Juggernaut.

With my enemy away for a few seconds, I begin to heal. I had no serious injuries apart from my broken nose and jaw, they return to their place and heal as soon as Cain gets up. Half of his body was destroyed, his left shoulder and arm have disappeared. I can even see his organs working in his body.

"BROTHER!"

Xavier, desperate seeing the state of his brother, runs towards him. But before he gets close to him, Cain's body heals, returning him to his original state. Losing his rationality, he attacks Xavier, slapping him as if he were a mosquito. The force of the blow would make Xavier explode if it hit him.

Between the two, a transparent golden wall appears. Juggernaut's blow makes it explode as if it were made of glass, then hitting Xavier, who is sent flying. My light constructions are still not powerful enough to defend against a blow from Juggernaut, but unity is strength. The wall I used now was built with hundreds of thin walls that together increased resistance, preventing Xavier from being killed.

With Xavier out of the scene for a few minutes, I have nothing to worry about. I throw Sigel, piercing Cain's neck. He tries to pull the spear from his neck, but it doesn't move. I run to him and increase my strength as much as I can with my runes. When I'm facing him, I grab my spear and pull it down with all my strength, tearing Cain almost in half.

"AH!"

Juggernaut ignores the injuries and kicks me, hitting my chest. When I recover from the blow, I'm a few meters away from him. Juggernaut raises a huge rock, which seems to be what remains of the roof of the old temple, and throws it at me.

I extend my hand, and my spear, which was stuck in Cain's body, returns to my hand. I shoot a beam of energy, hitting the large rock, making it explode, covering the whole place with dust and more debris raining down. A huge hand appears in the smoke curtain, trying to grab my head. A quick move of Sigel and I cut the hand, making it fall to the ground. Juggernaut in his enraged state tries to kick me again, but I manage to defend myself using the handle of my weapon.

When I regain my body's balance, I think it's time for a real attack. The tip of my spear starts burning with golden flames with a hint of purple. I unleash a wave of flames at Juggernaut's body.

The flames hit him squarely, covering his entire body. All the rocks around us start turning red due to the temperature. I cover Xavier, still unconscious, with a shield of golden light. Normally his defense is very low, but it will protect Xavier from the temperature and heat of my power.

Cain seems not to care about the flames and continues to attack me. As the flames consume him, he continues to regenerate at a faster rate than he is burned. The flames don't have the power to burn him completely before the regeneration is activated.

(It seems we're walking in circles around here.)

If the flames don't have power, then let's increase them. I activate the heritage rune once again, do the same thing I did against the traitors of Wakanda, and give my heat and power to Cain's body without my protections.

"BOOMMMMMMMM!"

Cain's body explodes in flames that reach the sky, evaporating the clouds. The power of the explosion is only second to a nuclear bomb.

(After so many years, my power and control have grown a lot. I get angry thinking that Thor, the idiot, would have this power if he trained more.)

The explosion lasted a minute and ended. Everything around was now melted and red due to the temperature, the only thing intact was the golden shield where Xavier was unconscious.

"It seems like that wasn't enough."

In front of me, I see a red skull levitating in the air, then the regeneration began. The skull became covered in nerves and flesh, then skin. The neck, torso, arms, waist, and legs began to grow at a frightening pace. In the end, Cain's body returned to its perfect state and was once again covered by a red armor.

"HAAAAAAAA!"

The battle continued as always, trapped in an endless loop. I dodged his blows and wounded him, he regenerated, I burned him to ashes, he regenerated. The only one starting to suffer in this battle was me. With Cain's infinite endurance, he could keep fighting like this forever.

(I wasn't expecting any less.)

Unfortunately for Cain, I had years to prepare for this fight, so of course, I have a trump card to end Juggernaut. The reason for not using it was that it had never been tested. Also, I need Cain to stay still for a few seconds. I also wanted to see if I could figure out how the powers of the ruby work. I would like to increase the power of the weapons I created, and the jewels are a perfect example of equipment that shares powers.

Throughout the fight, I managed to get some ideas of how the jewel works. Of course, Juggernaut can demonstrate such power because Cyttorak is an immensely powerful being, but Cyttorak's power is only functioning as fuel for the ruby's magic. So in the future, I can give magical effects to my weapons as well and not just copies of my original powers.

"It was fun, but let's end this, Juggernaut!"

I run towards Juggernaut ready to use my trump card, dodge some of his punches, and cut his legs, which burn with golden flames, delaying his regeneration a bit. I thrust Sigel right into the center of his chest, piercing him and pinning him to the ground, thus preventing him from moving. Cain, still with his hands free, tries to grab me, I dodge his attack and put my hand on his face, releasing a burst of light, blinding him for a few seconds. Blind, he starts moving his hands futilely trying to grab me unsuccessfully.

I put my hand on his chest, and when I'm about to start my magic, I hear a desperate scream.

"NOOOOOO!"

A force knocks me off balance and makes me lose the chance. I look at who did it and see Xavier now awake, looking at his brother's state in shock. His emotional state released a psychic shock, making me lose the chance.

"You idiot!"

Before demonstrating more anger towards Xavier, Juggernaut, already recovered and with his immense strength, removes Sigel from his chest along with a huge piece of his flesh and throws it away. He gets up once again and attacks me. I call Sigel, which comes flying back to my hand, and dodge a blow, and thrust my blade into Cain's skull, but to my shock, the blow goes through him as if Cain were a ghost.

The image disappears, and I see the real Cain behind me. He grabs my head and legs and lifts me into the air and hits me against his knee, breaking my spine.

"AAAAAAAAH!"

The pain was indescribable, but Juggernaut doesn't care about my scream and spins me, holding my leg, and throws me with all his strength. My body hits several trees, flying for several kilometers until hitting a small mound of earth.

"BOOM!"

The mound of earth explodes, creating a small crater where I lie on the ground. Before even stopping, I was already trying to heal myself using rune magic.

"CRACK!"

I hear the noise and feel the pain of my spine returning to its place, then I get up, leaning on a tree, trying to recover and understand what happened just now. My blow should have hit Juggernaut's head, giving me time to defend myself, but my blow passed through him like an illusion.

(Xavier!)

"He created a psychic illusion confusing me, my earpiece protects me against mind invasions, but Xavier's mental power is strong enough to create illusions, they don't possess any physical power, they are nothing more than parlor tricks, that's what I thought.

(It was foolishness not to consider psychic illusions, they are much inferior to the illusions of the ice giants or Loki, so I underestimated them. As they say, live and learn from your mistakes, before being killed by them. This mistake will not be repeated.)

"BOOM!"

"BOOM!"

"BOOM!"

"BOOM!"

The explosions in front of me start getting louder, then I see a human tank making its way through the forest, knocking down everything in its path coming towards me, the battle must end today, and one of us must die."
