Chapter 2: Launch

The air was buzzing with excitement all around the city, only thirty minutes was left till the official release of the server linking all players together.

[Zedric]: "Yooo y'all ready!?"

[Zach]: "You bet."

[Anthony]: "This is gonna be one of the most phenomenal release ever."

[Zach]: "Don't cry about it Zedric."

[Zedric]: "Hahaha, funny."

Friday the 13th of March 2034 at 9:00pm sharp was the night of the big release, Zedric made available food and snacks that would last hours without the need to leave his room. His bathroom as well was situated within his room so bathroom breaks were made easier and swift given he had planned to play the game all night long.

Moreover it was a Friday so there was no school the next day which made it more favourable for them. After all Nexus Origins was mostly targeted at teenagers and adults ranging from 18-30 years of age.

[Zedric]: "Luckily I didn't get detention this week, this is going to be epic."

[Zach]: "Yeah..."luckily."

[Zedric]: "Why do you always have to point out the obvious you mother..."

[Zach]: "Because if I don't you'll keep lying to yourself."

With only 5 minutes left, Zedric took a sip of water and unplugged his Neuro-Sync which had charged fully and placed it on his desk which had a state-of-the-art computer system designed for high-on-end gaming.

[9:00PM]

From around the whole neighborhood, streets, infact no matter where you were you could hear the roars of young and old gamers as the official time for the server release had come. 9:00PM on the dot, Rytec industries released the server and simultaneously all gamers turned on their Neuro-Sync headset and linked it to the game.

[Zedric]: "Well boys, here goes nothing."

Zedric switched off his phone and placed it on his desk. He picked up the expensive VR headset and carefully placed it on his head as he sat down on his bed. He pushed the button at the right side of the Neuro-Sync which activated it.

He felt a tingle as the neural link was initiated, smoothly interlocking his mind with the expensive Synaptic Interface.

The Synaptic Interface was the collection of all the interconnected system that all brainwaves were linked to which helped to connect all minds to the virtual world and share information in real time. This was the most highly crucial and life threatening part of the Nexus Origins that Rytec Industries worked on the most.

Any wrong move could mean the death of their players or could result to severe brain damage. Therefore Rytec Industries deployed their best programmers and designers as well as made investments to ensure the safety of their players mental health.

Zedric materialized in a vortex of pixels, his conscience had been transported to the virtual world of Rytec industries game. He was like a completely different person, like a soul waiting to be reborn into an identity.

His previous clothing were replaced with a black skintight jumpsuit bearing the logo of the industries.

"Welcome." A voice belonging to the artificial intelligence of the game programmed to resemble that of a woman's spoke.

A blue interface materialized infront of him demanding the necessary information that would grant him access into the game completely.

He interacted with the blue interface and filled in the necessary details before pushing the enter button at the bottom of it.

[3...2...1]

The game came to life, the login lobby surrounding Zedric faded away and his virtual self materialized as the character he had chosen. There wasn't much difference between his virtual self and his real self, both possessing black hair and eyes. He wore a black tunic with a pair of well-fitted black pants and sturdy black boots to complete his appearance.

[Welcome to Starling village]

The Starling village was a town made up of unique medieval arts and culture, it was built entirely with wood and stone which made it appear like they were back in the ancient times. It was located in the heart of the Veltus Kingdom and is considered one of the most poorest towns in the kingdom, however it was rich in magic.

The streets were lined with several shops, inns and houses which tended to the needs of both adventurers, traveler's and residents of the town. Zedric scanned the environment in amazement, the town buzzed with both playable and as well non-playable characters.

"This is out of this world.... literally." He commented.

His eyes scanned through the available players near him searching for his two friends. Starling town was the starting point to every players journey so he couldn't understand why it was so difficult to find them. However he didn't take into account that there were so many players who all flooded the server during it's release so it would be difficult to find them quickly.

"Well, till I can find them I can just take a look at my bio-data to have an idea of my capabilities and ideas, after all it is a world of magic." He pondered.

There were 5 different types of classes in Nexus Origins, the first and the most inferior one of them all was the Commoner class, followed by the Knight class, the Noble class, the Grand Priest class, and finally the Royalty class.

Before entering the game, Zedric purchased just the weaponry item but he couldn't obtain the classes due to budget which could have helped him to gain the upper hand in the game, it was a game after all so ending up with the commoners class was going to be the worst experience a player would ever go through. However the cost for the Knight class and above started around $112 which was discouraging to players who operated on budget.

The items he acquired, the [Holy Sword Evansmana], [Eye of Zeldris] and the [Orb of Hela] were SSS-Ranked items which initially could be acquired in the game starting from 5 million neni (the currency used in the game) depending on the item a player's willing to purchase. These items were one of a kind which the probability of attaining in the game was close to zero, however Zedric had gone the extra length to attain it.

As the player's enjoyed and lavished at the release of Nexus Origins, they had absolutely no idea what was about to happen in the real world would change their fate for better or worse.
