Chapter 17: Feast of the Blue Flamingo
Finally coming to a stop at a quiet place that didn't have many creatures nearby, I let go of the Blue Flamingo's legs from my horns.
Turning around and looking at this unfortunate bird, I only had one thought.
"Dang, he looks terrible!"
After being dragged for more than half an hour through different fauna and terrain, the poor unconscious flamingo looked beaten up and dirty. Its previously beautiful blue feathers remained but only on the side that didn't touch the ground; on the bottom part, it was completely featherless.
Also, after hitting so many trees, its head was swollen like a balloon. Thankfully, no blood was shed, and I didn't have to worry about my tracks being followed by bloodthirsty animals.
Feeling both pity and hunger, I went towards the swollen flamingo head and placed my front leg on its head with just one push. Splashhh!
Its head exploded, bringing this animal's life to a painless end.
Looking at the brain matter and blood on the ground, I thought to myself, "If I don't grow stronger, one day I'll end up just like this, since in this world, strength determines if you become someone else's prey or they become yours."
With that in mind, I immediately started taking action to prevent that outcome.
Looking at the flamingo bird, I knew this would be a good meal, as its meat seemed especially delicious, at least compared to what I had eaten before.
A few minutes of munching made the 4-meter-tall flamingo disappear.
Even though the flamingo was 4 meters tall, most of its height came from its tall and slender legs, so the actual parts of meat I could get from this flamingo bird were a bit more than 2 meters, which by no means was a little amount, compared to the 30 cm long lizards, this was a huge amount.
After the delicious meal was over, I waited patiently for the magic to happen. Every time I was about to use my Heavenly Devouring ability after a successful hunt, I felt especially happy and satisfied with myself. This was also true for the intoxicating feeling of growth that came with the activation of the ability.
But this time it took more than usual for the ability to start. I had panicked a bit because of this, but thankfully, after a few more minutes than usual, the warmth started appearing. I had guessed this was because of the bigger quantity of food I had consumed compared to before.
After about half an hour, the intense heat came to an end, and with it, my growth stopped.
I hadn't noticed this before, but every time the ability is about to end, a strong pulse spreads from my mind all around my body. After this process is done, a feeling of my length and height starts appearing inside of my mind. This was why I knew how much I had grown every time I used the ability. I thought it was just my guess, but instead, it seems it's a part of my Heavenly Devouring ability.
Now, as for how much I had grown, it was only an increase of half my original size.
This was something I had noticed before with the yellow lizards, as I grow in size, the increase also drops drastically. Before, a doubling in size was a simple matter; now, even an increase of half is hard.
If it wasn't for those seeds, I wouldn't have been able to grow to 3 meters in length from just those little yellow lizards.
But still, an increase of half after eating a 4-meter-tall creature is still satisfying, and with my original length of 3.7 meters, I was now a whopping 5.5 meters in length and a terrifying 2.25 meters in height!
As I was now, I could easily tower above the average human. If a normal person from my old world could see me, they would most likely have a heart attack! Haha!
Well, this is good for me, since in a world filled with terrifying beasts, you would have to become one yourself to have a chance at survival.
After I understood my gains from this hunt, I looked up at the sky.
It seems I've used up half of the available sunlight time to hunt this prey. seems I won't be able to hunt another; at most, I'll be able to search for one to hunt tomorrow.
With my course of actions clear, I decided to venture back into the depths of this mysterious forest. I wonder what creatures I'll find this time.
