CHAPTER 1: FORTUNE OF THE UNFORTUNATE.
"Happy birthday to you~~"
"Happy birthday to you~"
"Happy birthday, dear Will~"
"Happy.... birthday.... to.... you..."
"Happy 3rd birthday, Will!"
I smiled as we finished singing happy birthday to my cousin, but as much as I wanted to stay put, I needed to think.
'Sigh, I need some time alone,' I couldn't help but sigh and look up at the woman whose hand was holding my mine.
My new mother.
Sigh*
I need some time alone.
"Mommy, can you please let me go? I wamna play, " I spoke while making my voice as cute as possible while pouting.
My mother looked down, smiling brightly like a summer sun, and she said "Sure sweetie, just be careful." as soon as my mother let go of my tiny hand I dashed through crowds of people and exited to the backyard to which I found me and my cousin's hideout that we made or should I say I made when my parents dropped me off here to do their work.
I entered the hideout and sat one one of the bean bags, and with a lazy sigh, I stretched out and settled into a comfortable position. I then closed my eyes, and my mind wondered back to the particular circumstances of my new life.
Can you believe it? Being reincarnated is really real!
All I wanted after my death was to reunite with a heaven library, but it seemed like God had other plans for me. Though I didn't really meet those God. But, I know this is one of those God that decided to add an anomaly in a world to see how the said world will react.
Will it harm the said anomaly, or will they let the anomaly be?
Sigh*
Well, at least I lucked out being born born into a book-loving family. With that as a cover. I can just ask for books and absorb knowledge like never before.
I mean, in my previous life, I busted my brain day in and day out just to scrape together enough money for my siblings. All I wanted was to be a librarian and not a fast food worker. But did that ever happen? Nope. Instead, I got into more work because two of my siblings got cancer. I ended up sick from overworking, and my health plummeted, and eventually, I slept six feet under the ground. And not even a chance to visit a library
But this time, things will be different. In this life, I've got a loving family, a mountain of books to read, and a sibling free life. And to top it off, it seems I've been blessed with a third sense of sorts. Although, I still don't know why I've been reincarnated.
I've come up with a couple of theories, too.
Either this world will have an incurable virus, but that seems more unlikely, or this world is normal, and im just overthinking it. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Easing my mind, and with a resigned sigh, I let myself drift away.
Surrendering to the tranquility of sleep for hours to come....

As I awakened, I noticed that I'm no longer in our hideout but inside my bedroom, signaling that my parents took me home. With a sigh, I sat up and took in the sound of my mother cooking in the kitchen downstairs. My gaze shifted to the right, where photos of us three are placed, Just by looking at it brings a smile to my face. Thoughts of my new family naturally flooded my mind.
You know, I don't have some tragic orphan backstories from my past life. When it came to family, things were somewhat normal. I had a supportive father who gradually became strict over time, not because of some conflicts or disagreements. but just as it often happens if you're the eldest. And then there was my affectionate yet overbearing mother, constantly pestering me about how i should get married and have a kid.
So, yeah, I can say that I had a somewhat decent life in my previous existence. I wasn't really longing for a family when I was reborn. But the Sanchez... were a welcoming sight nonetheless.
Lillia Sanchez, my new birth mother, is both affectionate and strict, much like my previous life's mother but lesser. As for my new father, Richard Sanchez, he's mostly out in the fields due to breeding some random plants. Although he mentioned in a call that he managed to secure permission to be home today, he should be downstairs right now.
I look to my left, and my gaze focuses on the wall clock. It seems I slept through the night. It's almost seven in the morning.
Sigh... I should at least get down or face my mothers wrath, I guess....
With a resigned sigh, I decided it was time to get up and head downstairs. I had a feeling mother would come knocking on my door and rant about me not eating if I lingered any longer....
It didn't take long for me to reach the kitchen, where I spotted mother serving plates of food, one for me, and one for her and for father. As for father, he's reading a newspaper about a facility that got shutted down or something.
"Oh! Jess, I was just about to call you, well let's eat then." My mother's face lit up with a smile. She must have been happy to see me come down on my own.
Not thinking much of it, I greeted both of them with a good morning and sat down across her. While father sat beside her.
Nothing much happened during
breakfast. No sound escaped our mouth, except for the clanking of utensils on our plate.
After breakfast, Father went upstairs to sleep, but not before giving me a hug and a kiss on my forehead. To which I as well returned with a hug.
While mother proceeded to do chores around the house, though I noticed that mom has gotten a bit fat and she's holding her stomach a lot, I'm familiar with that condition. I just can't put my head around it. Sighing, I decided to put that thought at the back of my head, I went straight to the mini library that my father recently made under the stairs. Where I do my occasional reading, today I'm gonna read a book about how to hotwire cars and stuff.
After that, I'll read another one that holds a memory for me. It's a book called The Velveteen Rabbit, it's the first book my parents bought me....
