Chapter 26: Mountains

*****

Arthur started his journey up the mountains with his remaining items in the middle of the day.

During his journey, he encountered many monsters and thankfully, most of them were bears and wolves which he gladly went out his way to kill.

He was not too worried about the time much as he was worried about the climate up north. So he skinned those bears and wolves and took them to a river.

There he took a bath to wash off all the grime and dirt and also washed the skins of the monsters he had killed. Quickly taking the needle threads, he stitched the bear hides and the fur of the wolves to make a thick coat.

The coat was quite light and wouldn't restrict his movement that much, he kept that specifically in mind when making it. After that, he started a fire and ate some of the bear meats after thoroughly washing it in the river and then roasting it.

Once everything was set again, he continued his journey and before the sun set, he had arrived in front of the mountains which he was going to climb.

He took out his coat and donned it, before starting to climb his way up. Thankfully, the coat provided resistance to the cold to the point it was quite bearable, although it was still cold with it.

During the way, many boulders clattered from up top and fell down but Arthur was always able to predict and dodge them due to his sharpened senses.

Two hours passed, and he finally saw a cave up above a 100 meters from him. The night was setting in, and it was getting cold which made Arthur decide to spend the night in the cave and so he set course for it.

Although he could have used [Shadow Blend] here to proceed much faster after the sun had set, Arthur wanted to keep the skill for emergencies and using mana would be just a waste on it right now.

Before long, Arthur finally arrived in front of the cave but as he took a step in, his eyes widened upon seeing the creature inside.

A yeti, yes, a yeti was sleeping peacefully inside. In his previous life, the yeti was a mythical creature.

Many people had claimed of them finding it but their was never a definite photo or proof except the glimpses of large footprints.

According to the description of the yeti by the humans, it was a 2 meter long creature which looked strangely to be of African monkey's descent. Its whole body was covered in a thick fur except its chest and its face.

It was also known to be extremely ferocious and powerful with two medium sized teeth protruding out of its mouth.

Seeing the creature in front of him, Arthur was quite sure it was a yeti. And although many people in Arthur's situation would be surprised to find a mythical creature that was real, it wasn't much of a surprise for Arthur. (1) Hades with it, Greek gods existed, what was there to stop a yeti from existing?

Next thing he knew, he would he encountering a Griffin or Kappa.

Right now there was no doubt that Arthur would have to fight the creature if he was to stay in the cave for tonight. So the best discourse would be to inflict a surprise attack on the yeti, because Arthur was quite positive he couldn't kill the yeti in one strike.

Not with the only dagger he had left and he would have to use it rarely in this fight if he was to deliver a final bow to the yeti, because the dagger was not in a good condition to survive the whole battle. At most, it would break after a few exchanges.

So deciding to not use the sword, Arthur quickly generated a step of darkness with [Spectral Steps] and shrouding his fist with [Abyssal Shroud], he kicked off towards the yeti. As he expected, the yeti woke up.

But it was futile, as the punch was barely one meter left from its face. The punch impacted hard on the yeti's face as it cocked back with force, but Arthur wasn't left unhurt. It was like had hit a metal wall and his fist shook with sheer intensity with pain traveling throughout his whole body.

But he didn't let that pain distract his mind, after all the fight was not over. As soon as yeti's head cocked back, Arthur used [Nightfall Blind] on it and a thick aura of darkness descended on the wild beast.

Stepping on the ground, Arthur didn't stop to check his fist and started punching the yeti's body with full throttle.

The yeti had an insane defense because with every punch Arthur could feel them shake and blood splattered on the ground soon enough with every punch.

But time was not sympathetic towards Arthur, cause after 6 seconds the blindfold over the yeti's face was off and it regained its clarity.

Before it had no idea what had just happened, and its beastly instincts set fear in him due to which he was unable to do anything.

The beast's glaring and ferocious eyes set upon Arthur, who was just about to take a step back but the yeti was faster as a heavy arm impacted his body from the side.

Arthur flew straight into the caves wall triggering a small quake and the breaking of rubble.

The yeti turned towards him and instantly charged towards him before Arthur could regain his focus.

Fortunately, his instincts told him to dive right because of the impending danger and even though he was blind with dust right now, he quickly dived to the right.

And fortunately due to his instincts ,the beast impact straight into the cave's wall triggering an even larger quake as Arthur tried to get up but stumbled for a second.

Arthur quickly regained his balance and composure and stood up facing the back of the beast. The beast was quite fast for its height and weight which made him face that punch before.

Before the beast could get out of the walls, Arthur quickly shot towards it and landed a shrouded axe kick on its neck, and like he had expected he could hear a few cracks from the beasts and a guttural roar from its lips.

Before it could get out, he instantly jumped back gaining distance between them but now he had a plan in his mind. What he just did was just a theory in his mind but it had proven to be correct.

In ancient times, initially, when knights would wear heavy metal armor it would not allow them for free movement in exchange for defense but after a few battles, a change was introduced into the armor.

The armor had a few loose spaces in it which would the person's bone joints like the nape or the behind of a person's knee caps.

And just like that, Arthur suspected that the beast would have the same weakness considering its sheer speed and reactions for a beast its size and height.

And just like he had expected, when he had landed a kick on its neck, the spot and the impact was much weaker than the rest of its places which confirmed his thoughts.

If his measurements were right, Arthur suspected that another kick or a dagger to the beast's neck would make it snap, resulting in his victory.

The yeti had its raging gaze completely fixed on Arthur's whole being now. Right now it had given into its rage and wanted nothing more than to twist him apart.

It had lost its rational sense and clarity for now it completely relied on its beastly thoughts and so it charged towards Arthur.

Arthur set his stance and immediately when the beast was in range, he dodged. But what he wasn't expecting was that the beast would immediately twist its body, enduring the pain, but charging a fist towards him, catching him off guard.

If the fist would hit Arthur's face, it would completely mash into a pulp under its force. Fortunately his instincts kicked in, and immediately he used [Obsidian Screen] to generate a shield.

The fist impacted the shield, and it shattered in two seconds because of its instant creation, but not without halting much of the force of the attack.

The fist hit Arthur straight in the face, splattering a puddle of blood in the air as his body shot back into a wall again.

The beast did not stop its twisting, and completely twisted it to face Arthur's direction and without a moment this time, it charged towards him to end his life.

Arthur endured the pain and quickly opened his eyes, to find the beast just a second away from him and mashing his body into a fountain of blood.

It was as if death was staring him in the face again, in this life again and Arthur couldn't do anything again. This time he would be leaving his family, and they would be the one suffering and mourning.

He had promised to protect the ones he cherished in this life, his family; his parents, his little sister and grandfather. He had yet to fulfill his promise to Hades and defeat the gods as well.

But he again been too weak, and was now going to die to a beast who wasn't even the boss, just a mini boss of a dungeon.

Just like the end of his previous life, the end of Ray Vixen.

This would be the end again, end of Arthur Blade.
