Chapter 2: Not joining

(3rd Person POV)

The fight between Alber and Kaidou continues with Kaidou getting more and more frustrated. No matter what he does, Alber will always stand back up and continue to fight. He is getting stronger at a considerable rate. Kaidou's frustration stems from the fact that he actually wants to recruit Alber but he is making it impossible. Alber shrugs off damage like he doesn't even feel it, but that's not the case. If need be he can fight forever with his willpower alone.

*BOOM*

*BOOOM*

Kaidou has begun to use Haki in his attacks to knock Alber out, but nothing works. On the contrary. It seems that the talent Alber possesses for battle has transcended what should be possible in this world. The experience of both Sanguinius and Horus combined, allows him to grow accustomed to his smaller stature and weaker body. And as that goes on, he grows more deadly.

As Kaidou uses Haki, Alber understands it and tries to replicate it. But his strength is not high enough yet for Busoshoku Haki. Kenbunshoku on the other hand has come to him naturally. He is already using it to dodge some of Kaidou's attacks. What is happening is that Alber is unlocking more and more of his changing body's power and potential. And there is something else he can feel. Something slumbering that is about to be unleashed.

*BOOOOM*

The Kanabo of Kaidou smashes into Alber's head. Refusing to submit, Alber tries to push against the powerful blow, but his head cracks and he shoots into the ground, causing a giant crater to form.

"You are very powerful for someone so young. Join me and we will rise to the top of this world and rule as kings.", Kaidou says to Alber who is already standing back up. He is bleeding all over his body, but his expression is the same as ever. He is fully focused.

"I refuse. I don't want to rule. Someone like you will never understand what it means to be a king or an Emperor and rule correctly.", Alber says defiantly. He has had his fair share of Emperors and the thirst for power. His father and brother had fought because of it. He is not interested in ruling, at least for now.

Kaidou looks at Alber disappointed.

"Then I'll kill you. Too bad.", Kaidou says and channels the advanced version of Busoshoku Haki into his Kanabo, Internal Destruction and unleashes his Haoshoku Haki. He pulls the Kanabo back and swings at Alber with his full power. If the weapon hits Alber's head, it will pop and kill him. But Alber refuses to yield. He sees the future again. He sees the Kanabo, wielded by Kaidou reaching his head and destroying it.

When he looks at the weapon Kaidou wields, he suddenly is reminded of another weapon. A weapon he ... or rather his brother Horus used to wield, the Power Maul. The picture of that weapon appears in his mind together with his own weapons. The Blade Encarmine and the Spear of Telesto. The Power Maul sticks in his head though and in the split second that has passed, he suddenly feels this pull and without understanding what is happening, pulls and swings his arms at the incoming Kanabo.

*BBBOOOOOOOOMMMM*

A powerful shockwave blows everything away as two weapons clash. Kaidou's eyes widen as he sees what happened. A large maul has hit his Kanabo and Alber who hasn't even realised it yet, is using his full strength to push against Kaidou's own weapon.

The clash ends and Kaidou stops to look at Alber in disbelief. Then he begins to laugh loudly.

"WORORORORORORORORO"

Alber comes out of his daze and tilts his head in confusion. He doesn't understand what is going on or why Kaidou is laughing. He then looks at his hands and is shocked. In his hands ... is the Power Maul, which his brother Horus used to wield. It is larger than a human being and easily capable of smashing ceramite to pieces. It signified Horus' rank as Warmaster and was given to him as a gift by their Father upon achieving this rank.

So why does he now have it?

And that's not all. He can feel that there is more. The weapon seemed to be part of his soul in a way. The thousands of years fighting with them caused a change to both Sanguinius' and Horus' existences. Their weapons followed them along and they became something akin to Zanpakuto, from Bleach. Since Alber was now, not just Alber anymore, but Snaguinius and Horus together, he not only got Sanguinius' weapons, but Horus' Power Maul as well.

"You seem surprised. To block my attack this way ... Wororororororo. Of course, you have it as well, why else would you decline to join me? I am leaving. Grow stronger in the future. Maybe you can defeat me then.", Kaidou says and then leaves Alber standing there. The young but mentally old man is still disbelieving about what happened. But he pulls himself together and focuses again.

He looks around at the destruction both of them caused. He is looking for something he knows should be located here somewhere. In the last clash, he felt something else unlocking. He knew Psyker abilities when he saw them, but in the last clash, Kaidou used something that was not Psyker's abilities and yet had similarities or used similar principles.

It was the spirit. It felt as if Kaidou forced his will on Alber. This of course would not only never work, but backfire. The will of not one but two Primarchs is not something you want to fight. So in that clash, Alber unlocked his Haoshoku Haki unknowingly and pushed Kaidou's own Haoshoku back. That's right, Alber's Haoshoku Haki, was already much stronger than Kaidou's and if his body would allow it, he would have managed to subdue the Oni.

.

Knowing that he had stumbled upon a new power system in this world, Alber wanted to try something out. Sanguinius used to have something called 'Omophagea'. The Omophagea, also called the Remembrancer, is the 8th of the 19 genetically engineered gene-seed organs that are implanted into a Space Marine Neophyte to produce a new superhuman Astartes.

It allows the Astartes to gain part of a person's or creature's memory by eating its flesh. This special organ is implanted between the thoracic vertebrae and the stomach wall and is designed to absorb genetic information and any DNA, RNA or protein sequences related to experience or memory. This implant thus allows a Space Marine to literally "learn by eating." The Omophagea transmits the gained information to the Astartes' brain in biochemical form as a set of memories or experiences.

The effects of the omophagea allowed new recruits to be inducted and granted a basic competence with extreme rapidity through the flesh of the newly fallen. This ghoulish practice was commonplace during the earliest years of the Legion's existence, allowing the swift replacement of battlefield casualties. For this reason, the Apothecaries of the IX Legion were known to carry large stocks of gene seed into combat zones, ready for the harvest of new souls that followed both glorious victory and ignominious defeat alike.

.

So why would Alber who doesn't have this genetically engineered gene seed organ, think he can still do that?

Because everything else also seemed to have followed Sanguinius and Horus. He could feel his body changing and maybe, there was a chance that he could also 'learn by eating'. The fight had taken a long time and he managed to injure Kaidou to the point of drawing some blood. He had his ridiculous martial prowess to thank for that.

Now that he was in a new world, with a power system that he didn't know about, he wanted to take advantage of the fact that he could learn about Haki by consuming the small amount of blood from Kaidou. What better way to learn about the applications of Haki, than from someone who was as strong as Kaidou?

Alber didn't know whether Kaidou was considered strong in this new world. He had no point of reference, except the memories of Alber. For all he knew, Kaidou could be on the level of the Astartes in this world and there were Custodes, Primarchs or even Emperor-like individuals compared to Kaidou. His genius intelligence, however, came to the conclusion, that that was unlikely.

Given the fight Alber had with Kaidou, he could tell that there might be stronger individuals, but the difference between Kaidou and the strongest was probably not the same as the difference between the Astartes to the Primarchs. But he wasn't certain yet.

.

Alber finally found the areas where the little blood was located. He had to consume quite a lot of his own blood until he found it. He did his best to ingest as much of the blood as he could. He closed his eyes and after a moment, several images and life-feeds appeared in his mind. He saw bits and pieces of Kaidou's life and his journey from a small child, to a pirate. He focused on what he wanted to know, Haki.

Alber took as much as he could from the memories. His intelligence could fill the few blanks that still remained easily. Alber opened his eyes again. He smiled slightly. This was interesting. The world he was in, seemed bigger but also it was the only thing there was, according to Kaidou's memories.

There was corruption in the World Government and among the lawless Pirates. There was so much water mass in this world and so little land. But that strange mountain that surrounded the entire world seemed strange to Alber. He wanted to find out more and travel around. There were so many different islands in this world and he could use his abilities and new biology to fly all around the world and see the sights. A good change for him.

.

Alber makes his way out of the facility. The other prisoners all died. His fight with Kaidou caused the entire facility to be destroyed. He took his time to come to terms with his current situation and understand himself better. It seems the way, that he is changing. His body is changing into a Lunarian-Primarch hybrid. The abilities and skills that Sanguinius and Horus had, are changing Alber's physique and making him more powerful, slowly.

His mind is enhanced, his body is growing stronger and as he ages, it will continue this way. He can summon the weapons of Horus and Sanguinius and use them in battle. And finally, he can use these flames that never seem to go out. Alber is convinced that after some training, he will be able to take full control over the flames and if he truly will unlock the abilities of his past, he will be able to use all Psyker abilities in the future.

But for now, he will train his body and skills back to the way they were and then surpass them. The humans and races of this world are physically stronger than the ones in his past. With training alone, humans can destroy mountains here. There were of course Psykers who could do much more than humans here, but that was not just with their physical bodies.

You can only imagine what would happen if you combine these two things.

Alber took flight and shot into the sky. He wanted to find an island which was uninhabited to train himself before he went to explore the world. The memories of Kaidou helped him find a suitable island. He understood that he was now in the New World. This was also called the second half of the Grand Line. There were many dangers lurking around here, but Alber's goal was one of the islands on the 'Calm Belt'.

There he could fight the beasts and train himself. It was a good plan.

I hope you can look past the fact that he was able to do something that shouldn't be able to. He will gradually unlock more abilities. We'll see where this goes.
