Chapter 10: Potential

Eruen continued to teach us about the history of the graham empire, it was boring since most of we royals had learnt about this early on.

The class was boring, but not everyone had the luxury of learning this information about their homeland. I myself was once part of them seeing as most of my time spent in the outskirts was used surviving.

Felina seemed eccentric focusing on the topic being thought by our instructor, her eyes glued directly on eruen who was rounding up on the history lesson.

"That will be all for now, I'll be waiting in the training grounds. Since we'll be spending a long time together, I need to evaluate your skills."

The classes interest was finally piqued as this was basically a way to know those among us who really posed a threat.

The atmosphere suddenly became stiff, everyone exchanged glances at one another as little bloodlust leaked from does who were truly noteworthy. Although I felt bit of it come from the two behind me.

The duo of boy and girl where nothing special, apart from the fact that she had bandages wrapped around her eyes. But now that my gaze landed on them something was amiss…

It was as though the longer you stared the stronger the sense of uneasiness.

Most people hadn't even registered their existence yet, even with the sense of uneasiness it was nothing compared to what I felt from the emperor.

They went to be considered threats, people might call that arrogance and they won't be wrong but with what I had been through, didn't I have that right.

Truthfully only time would tell if my assumption was right but until then I'll stand by my decision.

"Kassius, what you waiting for let's go," Felina said dragging my hand as we left the class.

"Uhhh", was it just me or was the princess directing bloodlust towards me. 'Nahhh, that couldn't be possible, I had practically never interacted with her'.

I shook my head dismissing the thought, I had nothing to do with them and probably won't in future.

We arrived in the training ground, where all of our classmates made their way towards, the space was grand with seats for people to watch. It was mostly made for duels between students, as it was said during their orientation which kassius wasn't paying attention to.

Kassius looked around silently while felina eyes shined at every little thing in amazement, she behaved exactly just like a child. It reminded him of ophia, it was nice to have someone like that around.

He too was amazed by the training grounds it was just he didn't show it.

The wind blew making kassius's hair cover his face, since he was standing next to felina he caught a bit of her scent.

'She smells just like flowers'

The rest of their classmates arrived of the training grounds as they all went to the center meeting eruen.

"Since I don't know any of you personally, I'll have you do a series of excuses to determine your physical capabilities"

We all listened attentively as our instructor explained the what we needed to do, after discussing for about five minutes we all started running around the whole training ground.

Picking up the pace, we rounded the field more than twenty times. Most of us were already tired and the rest ran purely on will alone.

But as time passed, most started slowly falling behind one after the other. It just a matter of time before they're number increased.

******

Struggling to catch up to the five in front of me, I looked to my right seeing felina smiling without a drop of sweat.

She seemed practically normal as if we hadn't rounded the field more than thirty times.

"Heyy," I said getting her attention

"Aren't you tired?"

"No, not really. Is there a reason I should be?"

'What the hell, maybe she might be a monster.'

I had almost run out to energy, even if I could still push myself a bit more it wouldn't make a difference.

Stopping I collapsed on the floor breathing heavily, sweat trickled down my face as I stared as the clouds, it was peaceful.

A large shadow covered my view providing me with a nice shade.

"Aren't you going to continue," I asked

"Not really, it won't be fun without you," felina replied sitting next to me

I stared at the figures of the dukes other children as they went out of sight. They were just different kinds of monsters.

But what really shocked me was the additional of the boy from the pair of duo that stood running next to them.

My interest was piqued although just slightly, I'd continue to observe from the sides.

Not that it wasn't expected, just from the fact they could go on for this long means they were either in a higher rank or they just had insanely strong builds.

I enjoyed the semblance of peace that was short lived before we were called by eruen. He looked pleased with our performance to say the least.

"With what most of you displayed, I can say for certainty that seventy percent of you will die before you can even get to a ruin"

His words drowned the atmosphere in a wave of disbelief, no one wanted to believe they were weak.

After all then what was the point of all their training, what was the point of getting stronger if they were going to die either way.

"But luckily for you strength isn't the only factor to consider in survival," eruen said

"You will be broken into groups of two and be sparring with whoever you end up with, this will help me accurately understand your potential"

He started pointing to two random individuals with both of his hands, each person his hands fell on would be the people who would spar.

It continued for the next three minutes before we all knew who we would be facing.

I wouldn't know what to call it even when I had seen the results of the match ups, with all the restrictions I set for myself the universe would seem to have other plans

The platinum blond stared deeply at me with bloodlust pouring from all around her….

Her rage fully directed at me.

'I guess I wasn't seeing things then.'

Eruen calmly observed the different reactions we had to our partners, before landing on me

"Kassius Altair, I was informed you received a relic some months back."

"Yes," I answered

"You can choose to use it or not, during this sparring. Any tool in your disposal raises the rate of survival," Eruen informed

"No, I won't be using my relic," I couldn't use it for long either way plus it was one of my trump cards there was no use for me to reveal it's power right now.

The mood was set as he instructed the first pair to step onto the center of the training ground.

The pair were pretty normal, it was against a browned haired boy with dark circles around his eyes and a semi-petite girl who held onto a staff while the boy went bare handed.

"Also just as an extra detail I forgot to add, anything is acceptable. I want you to fight with the intent to kill your opponent.

Be free to express yourselves to the fullest, if the fight is about to lead to death I'll intervene while any serious injuries will be healed in the infirmary."

The new set of instructions lead to me having a twisted frown on my face, the atmosphere had worsened.

"You may begin"
