Chapter 19: Chapter 19 - First Day 07.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Hogwarts.

...

...

Minerva looked around at all her students leaving the room. There hadn't been much interaction among them after Snape left; the room had indeed been quite silent except for some low conversations and murmurs.

It didn't take long for the class to end with the arrival of lunchtime. As everyone left, Minerva waited for the last student to leave before she headed to the exit, locking the room up until the class with the fourth year that would take place in the afternoon.

She sighed as she walked through the corridors of the castle; after all, her mood had been ruined by the interaction she had with Snape. He had treated her in a way that almost no student had in her academic career, and she could hardly do anything about it, leaving her even more surprised when he simply turned his back on her class, implying that he was only interested in showing up for the final exams of that year.

"Did you hear that Severus Snape has returned to Hogwarts and is completely different?" A student asked another in the midst of a group of students.

"Severus Snape? Who's that?" said a girl in the group.

"Don't you remember that student who chased after that Gryffindor girl all year?" Another asked.

"Yes, what do you mean he's changed?" The girl, now recognizing Snape, asked.

"Sorry, I heard he's very different in appearance. I heard a student found him wandering the school and when questioned, Snape's eyes shone blue, and he threatened to cast an Unforgivable on him," the student said, spreading the gossip.

"Is he a dark wizard?" Another seemed alarmed.

"I heard he killed a mandrake in the Ravenclaw Herbology class!" said a fourth student.

"So he joined Voldemort's group..." The girl said.

"Yes, that's what I heard!" Another said, certain of the gossip.

"Excuse me." Minerva's voice reached the students; she had stopped since they were blocking the corridor to talk while she listened to the entire conversation.

"Hm?! Professor Minerva?!" The students were startled to see her standing there, looking at them as stern as always.

"You must leave the corridor and keep the path clear for students, 10 points deducted from Hufflepuff," she declared, leaving the students frightened.

"Don't take our points!" They cried, but she just moved on towards the communal hall to have lunch.

As she continued on her way, lecturing a student here and there, the only thing she could hear from the students was about Snape, with everyone talking about his changes and some wanting to know how he did it, wanting his secrets.

If Minerva was already in a bad mood, hearing Snape's name throughout her journey certainly didn't help. And she could finally sigh in relief when she arrived at the communal hall, entering and heading to the teachers' table while the tables were filled with students still repeating Snape's name in their gossip.

"Professor Minerva! Good to see you!" Albus greeted her while sitting in his principal's chair.

"Director Dumbledore, professors," she greeted the director and the already present professors, while her colleagues nodded politely.

"What's with that face, you seem to be in a bad mood..." Albus commented.

"I had a problem with a student," she said, sighing, and Albus was quick to guess who it was.

"Snape?" He asked, and she just nodded.

Slughorn also heard this at his table and looked interested, "Snape caused problems...?" He asked, worried.

"You could say that, before I deducted 50 points from Slytherin, he left the classroom," she spoke with frustration.

"50 points?! What nonsense is this, Minerva?" Slughorn asked, raising his voice.

"Your student was expelled from my class, there's no respect from him towards me, his teacher. Yet, he left and seemed not to care about attending it. I would like you, as the head of his house, to talk to him," Minerva spoke sternly, while Slughorn still looked unsatisfied.

"Was he that bad, Minerva?" Filius Flitwick asked cautiously; he had nothing against young Snape either and certainly noticed the change in the boy after Albus announced that the strange boy was him. He turned to Professor Sprout, who also listened to the conversation quite surprised and couldn't help but ask, "How was Mr. Snape in your class?" He inquired.

"Snape was brilliant! He not only did everything perfectly but also answered a question I asked in a surgical and profound manner, demonstrating knowledge far beyond the rest of the class," she said with some pride.

"How can he be so bad in one class to be expelled and another for the teacher to nearly shout his name?" Slughorn asked, eyeing Minerva like a hawk.

"Your student said he didn't respect me and refused to use titles when referring to me," Minerva admitted.

"Why are you surprised? You protect your students even when they are wrong," Slughorn mocked.

"That's not true! I have always been fair!" she exclaimed, but many there did not believe her words, certainly, Minerva was a competent teacher and a great animagus, but she did play favorites to the house she was responsible for.

"Well, let's cease these heated discussions and enjoy our delicious food," Albus intervened to prevent the discussion from extending with his grandfatherly tone.

The professors fell silent as Minerva sat next to the director. "Tell me, did you manage to speak with him before your argument?" Albus asked calmly.

"Not much, but Albus... he certainly seems like another person, you had to see, he does something that nobody before the middle of the year should do..." Minerva spoke in a lost tone.

"You're teaching perfect transfiguration, aren't you?" He asked, and she nodded.

"Yes, he made his first attempt on two broken parts of the feather at the same time, I've never seen anything like it from a fifth-year student, not even the seventh years can perform 2 transfigurations at the same time, it's madness," she spoke somewhat lost.

Albus appeared thoughtful about this... "So he has become a talent in transfiguration? I could understand if he was doing well in Herbology with Professor Sprout, who praised him, but surely Snape was not good in your class, not at the level you're talking about..." Albus commented.

"What should I do, Albus? He said he wouldn't come to my class anymore..." She commented.

"I'll talk to him later... He's also not here..." Albus surveyed the tables being filled as more and more students entered the hall to eat, but no sign of Snape; it seemed he wouldn't come here.

"Should I deduct his points?" She returned to the question.

"Not yet, let me find him later," Albus said, wanting to talk to Snape next, but hoping he wouldn't be as irritated with the student as yesterday, after all, his appearance letting emotions take over him was not beneficial, and Snape seemed to have a natural talent for irritating him.

Meanwhile, the students also talked about Snape. "I knew it! I knew he would be a dark wizard!" Black said at the Gryffindor table to Harry Potter.

"He scares me..." Pettigrew said, remembering Snape and how relentless he seemed.

"He's changed, but that doesn't change the fact that we might not be able to deal with him, this year we'll enjoy every second and finish Snape!" James Potter declared, and everyone nodded. He was angry about what happened in Diagon Alley, now how Snape responded in Professor Minerva's class piled up even more anger.

Lily, in another corner of the table, was lost looking towards the Slytherin table to see if Snape was there. "Listen, Lily!" A voice beside her called.

"Hm?!" She looked to the side.

"We've been trying to talk to you for the last 5 minutes, you haven't been paying attention to us!" A group of girls accused her.

"Sorry, how can I help?" She asked the Gryffindor girls.

"We were thinking... Maybe you could talk to your ex-friend... we wanted to meet him..." They spoke in a tone that seemed to make Lily uncomfortable.

"We're not talking anymore..." Lily made it clear despite her voice sounding a bit weak.

"Hm... but can't you at least introduce us to him?" A girl asked, looking at her hoping she would say yes.

Lily sighed, a bit frustrated with the girl's demand. "As I said, I don't talk to him anymore..." She tried to state the obvious, and before the girls could say anything, she simply returned her attention to her food, trying to ignore these girls who were bothering her about Snape.

'How has he changed so much, why does the entire school only talk about him...' Lily said in her mind with a tone of dissatisfaction, knowing that this year would be nothing compared to the last. Moreover, she also had other thoughts, similar to Albus's. "He can't be the Snape I knew..." was her only thought as she ate her meal.

"You can't be serious..." At another table, Lucius Malfoy said to the fifth-year student he had summoned to talk about Snape.

"It's true, Lucius!" The student insisted. "You can ask anyone from the fifth year." He emphasized.

"You're saying Snape simply returned and is completely different, being expelled from transfiguration class on the first day after declaring he had no respect for Professor Minerva?! That sounds insane." Another student from a major house spoke.

"You don't understand... He's totally different." The student insisted.

"Did he lose points for our house?" Another emphasized.

"Who cares about points, I saw Snape in the morning after Geronimo informed us that it was actually Snape!" Another student spoke.

"Snape really came back..." A student, Narcissa Black asked with curiosity, after all, she thought Snape was a good friend while her sister spoke of him.

"Not just came back, he's totally different!" Andromeda Black, her sister, said with an excited tone. "He was that cat everyone was talking about at school yesterday, they say he's another person now." She concluded.

"Can you stop talking about that half-blood!" Bellatrix Black snarled on the side, disgusted by the conversation between her sisters.

"Anyway... where is he. I need to talk to him..." turning back to Lucius and his seventh-year colleagues, he said, looking towards the entrance of the common hall where the flow of students had already decreased, but no sign of Snape entering.

"It seems he's not coming..." another student said.

"That's obvious." Another mocked.

"Everyone's saying he's with You-Know-Who." A student murmured.

"Impossible... I've said that I would know if that were true," Lucius argued.

"Yes, I heard rumors he took a special potion to change so much, Snape has always been an excellent potioneer, I wouldn't doubt he created something incredible." A student from the other side of the table said.

"Yes, we could get the recipe from him, if it makes that kind of change... We could get rich with it!" Another student said.

"Good luck with that... I heard Snape is much more closed off than before and quite hostile... Some first-year students are scared of him." A girl from the sixth year said.

"Who cares about that, Snape is just a half-blood with no family, his value lies in being a future potions master, we can use him as we please, since we are pure-bloods and he should obey us... I'll talk to him later, you'll see how I put him in his place!" Another seventh-year student boasted.

Lucius would always defend Snape in these moments, since his father always asked him to do so, Snape had always been targeted to join the Death Eaters, however, he remained silent, thinking about many things, but certainly, he should talk to Snape later and hoped to do so tonight in the Slytherin common room.
