Chapter 4: My Little Birds

Since he's been reborn, Dylan decides to go take a look, maybe those few baby birds haven't died yet?

If they're still alive, as a repayment, Dylan doesn't mind keeping a few birds as pets.

About two kilometers away, Dylan sees the big tree from afar.

This tree must be at least a few hundred years old, it would take seven or eight adults to barely encircle it.

And on the trunk, there are several pieces of large red cloth tied around.

Dylan remembers tearing off these pieces of red cloth to wrap himself in them in his past life.

Although not very thick, he recalls not feeling too cold when he hid here in his past life.

As for the reason, it's hard to say.

At the bottom of the trunk, there's a crack big enough for one person to crawl into.

Inside the tree hollow, there's a thick layer of straw, with a large bird's nest on top.

Dylan crawls in directly and looks into the bird's nest.

There are a total of 7 baby birds, most of them are already motionless.

Only one, upon hearing the movement, can barely lift its head, desperately opening its mouth weakly calling towards Dylan.

Dylan carefully checks and confirms that the other 6 have already cooled down.

He couldn't help but sigh. Even if he had come a little earlier, it wouldn't have made a difference.

Presumably, the parent bird had an accident; otherwise, it wouldn't have left behind such a brood of baby birds.

But luckily, there's still one alive, so Dylan's trip wasn't entirely in vain.

He buries the other 6 on the spot and takes the bird's nest with the bird in it.

Back at the villa, Dylan finds a room to put the bird's nest with the bird inside.

He goes to the lawn and catches some insects to feed the hungry baby birds.

After eating and drinking their fill, the baby birds fall asleep contentedly.

Dylan really hopes it can survive; he's quite lonely, and having a bird wouldn't be bad.

While others navigate the apocalypse with a person and a dog, how about I navigate it with a person and a bird?

Two hours later, the people from the construction and renovation company arrived.

A man got out of the Land Rover.

He's around 30 years old, tall and sturdy, anyway, standing at 180 centimeters, Dylan is half a head shorter than him.

"Hello, Manager Dylan, I'm Clarence from Nike Company, here's my business card."

Dylan takes the card and reads it: Clarence, General Manager.

Well, the General Manager personally coming over shows that they take this business seriously.

Dylan doesn't beat around the bush, he directly takes Clarence into the villa and explains his ideas one by one.

Throughout the process, Clarence is stunned.

For a moment, Clarence felt either this villa doesn't belong to Dylan, or Dylan's got a problem in his head.

"Uh, Manager Dylan, are you sure you want to renovate it as you said? Are you kidding me?" Clarence wants to confirm again.

Dylan gives him a glance, as if to say, do you think I'm here just to joke around with you?

Seeing Dylan ignoring him, Clarence smiles awkwardly, "I feel like you're turning this villa into a doomsday shelter, huh?"

Dylan nods affirmatively, "Yes, exactly, turning it into a doomsday shelter!"

Seeing that Dylan doesn't seem to be joking, Clarence believes him.

"Manager Dylan, please wait, I think my sister might be able to help you!"

Clarence says and runs back to his car, opens the back door, and talks for a few moments.

Then, a young girl in a long skirt comes out of the back seat.

When the girl comes to Dylan, he's stunned."Beautiful and elegant," Dylan thought to himself, at a loss for words to describe her.

She's no less than those A-list female celebrities, with impeccable figure and looks Perfect!

Dylan wonders curiously, why did Clarence bring his sister to meet him?

Is it to seduce him in order to secure this business deal?

 It's really hard to resist!

Just as Dylan's mind wanders, he hears Clarence saying, "Manager Dylan, this is my sister, Alberta.

She's a top student in design from Bluewater Bay Art College.

You can discuss your ideas with her."

Alberta smiles gently, "Hello, Manager Dylan

I heard from my brother that you want to turn the villa into a doomsday shelter?"

The originally aloof Alberta, now smiling sweetly, exudes a youthful charm.

Dylan feels a sense of familiarity, as if he's seen her somewhere before, but he can't recall.

Never mind, getting the shelter sorted is the priority.

Dylan collects his thoughts and warmly says, "Miss Alberta, just call me Dylan.

Yes, I indeed want to create a doomsday shelter."

"Well, Manager Dylan, could you elaborate on your ideas?"

Alberta asks, not daring to address Dylan by his first name directly.

"Sure! Follow me."

After a thorough discussion, Dylan is ecstatic. He feels like he's found a talent today.

Alberta understands much more than himself, and her attention to detail is impeccable.

No wonder she's a design student.

"Miss Alberta, it seems like you're quite familiar with building shelters.

Have you designed one before?" Dylan asks curiously.

Alberta blushes and smiles shyly, "No, actually, I'm a die-hard doomsday enthusiast.

I enjoy daydreaming and designing doomsday fortresses in my spare time."

Dylan nods understandingly.

"Clarence, I think Alberta's ideas are fantastic.

Can you quickly provide me with a comprehensive construction design and give me a quote?

If it's suitable, we can start right away!"Dylan was so happy that he even started calling Clarence "Big Brother."

"Okay, Manager Dylan, I'll bring a few more people to help measure the dimensions, and you can discuss further with my sister.

I'll have her work overnight to come up with a construction plan and design drawings, and we'll give you a quote tomorrow!" Clarence said.

Dylan couldn't have been happier.

...

The group worked tirelessly until well past nine in the evening, without even getting a chance to eat.

Dylan thoughtfully ordered a lavish takeout for everyone.

Dylan kept emphasizing to Alberta that the villa should be treated like her own home, and everything should be of the best quality, without worrying about the cost.

On the way back, Clarence asked his sister, "Alberta, what do you think of this Manager Dylan?

He wouldn't be just toying with us, would he?"

Alberta pondered for a moment, then shook her head and replied, "My intuition tells me he's not the type to deceive people.

But, anyone who's actually turning a doomsday shelter into reality is either very wealthy or excessively obsessed with fantasies."

"And which do you think Manager Dylan belongs to?" Clarence continued.

Alberta smiled and said, "I think he's probably in the wealthy category, haha!"

Dylan left the entire renovation project in her capable hands, encouraging her to express any ideas freely, treating it as her own creation.

Rather than Dylan building a doomsday shelter, it was more like Dylan spending money to fulfill her dream of building one.

At that moment, Alberta thought, Dylan was actually a pretty good person.

...

Now, Dylan lay comfortably in the huge bed in the master bedroom on the third floor.

In the corner was the bird's nest, with the little chick he had just fed, now fast asleep inside.

The day passed by in a hurry.

If everything went smoothly tomorrow, he could leave it to Clarence and his team.

His next step would be to start stocking up on supplies, a massive undertaking requiring a lot of resources and time, which was running out.

If it weren't for Alberta today, he would've expended so much more energy.

Once everything was settled tomorrow, he would rent a few cold storage units and warehouses to store the supplies.

But for now, he didn't want to think about it.

All Dylan wanted was to rest well. It was the first day since his rebirth.

It had been so long since he had slept peacefully.

The dangers of the apocalypse had worn him down mentally and physically.

Now, all he wanted was a good night's sleep.
