Chapter 14: Chapter 14: A day bonding with new friends

The first game ended before I could even start to sweat and since everyone still wanted to play we started another game even if the mission was good motivation midway through the game I just forgot about it and played for the fun of playing, Derrick was a terrific teammate for me I do not know how but he always seems to know where I was going on the court and what I wanted him to do the second game was a pure slaughter I put 42 pts with 6/7 3 pointers 14 rebounds and 1 assist I didn't get to pass the de ball much because honestly, I was to focus on getting the point well I didn't seems to bother my teammates, in fact, they wanted me to play a 3rd game I looked at Derrick to ask if he was still playing but he said it was his last so I also stopped playing was fun and playing with friends even more so I look at the mission after not thinking about it for about 2 hours

While looking at my stats I started walking toward Nigel who was handing me my towel after washing off the sweat I had on my face and the back of my neck, Nigel was looking at me with a strange smile but before I could ask what that was for he pointed behind me, I turned around and saw Derrick walking toward me with the girl I had spotted in the bleacher before the games
-Hey what's up men you got a butler? asked Derrick looking at Nigel and then back at me with a questioning gaze
-Yes and no he is the private driver of the family but more than this he is like a grandfather to me, Nigel this is my new friend Derrick and Derrick who is this beautiful lady?
-Whoa calm your horse, The frog this is my sister Alicia since you told me that you are going to Columbia University I thought that you two could get along she is also going to start there in September
-Ohh nice to meet you, Alicia, don't listen to your brother I'm not a frog my name is Ace I said to her with a smile 'she is even prettier up close' I thought
-Hi nice to meet you it's rare to see my brother making friends as fast as this he has pretty high standards toward building relationships he must be seeing something in you said Alicia
This comment made him blush a little, on my part I started laughing out loud and Nigel still had this smirk on his face I really needed to ask what this was about, after taking my sports bag from his hand I took off my shirt to change into fresh clothing I didn't think much of it at first but when I was done and saw Alicia face blushing a little I realize that it might have been a little inappropriate of me
-Sorry for this I said with my hand rubbing the back of my neck
Derrick didn't notice Alicia's reactions maybe he would have reacted differently if that was the case well lucky for me he didn't after putting my sweaty shirt into my bag and putting back my Brooklyn Nets snap-back on as I was ready to say my goodbye when Derrick asked me
-What are you doing today you said that you came out to play today do you know what you're gonna do because if not, do you want to hang out with us i know a good spot to take a bite also we know the fun place around here you got all the time in the world to look at those tourist trap called attraction let us show you OUR New York what do you think?
I looked at Nigel who seemed really happy about the turn of events and touring New York with friends sounded a lot more fun than what I had planned out for the day so of course I accepted
-Alright I'm down, do you guys want to ride in our car its a lot more comfortable than the subway I'm sure and since Nigel is driving we don't have to worry about anything is it alright with you Nigel?
-I don't mind Ace it's your choice I am happy that you finally made yourself a friend Martha will be overjoyed to hear that! he said with a smirk, now I knew what this little smile was all about he finally had some gossips news too tell everybody back at the island, damn it I thought while my eyes were shifting left and right in shyness
-Yes God I thought you'd never asked hahaha laughed Derrick while Alicia was looking at her brother with exasperation which made me smile a little and drop my nervousness
-Alright follow me then, once in the car you can tell Nigel our destination and I really hope that it's a good restaurant because I'm so hungry I could eat a horse
-Well it's not a restaurant per se since you're in New York you need to know the goods and food trucks around here man some of them are better than restaurants let me tell you said Derrick with a wide grin
Walking out of the park wasn't easier than getting in there was an influx of people coming in and out which made walking a lot harder but since we were not in a hurry we just took our time while talking I didn't realize until we were almost at the car but I walked the entire way on the left side of Alicia and Derrick took the right side I think our male instinct took over without us realizing it or may just have been my upbringing that's come into play Mammy and Lena sure taught me well I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't see the appreciative gaze both Derrick and Alicia where throwing at me Lena always told me that when making friends you must look at the little details to know if they care about you or just wanted to use you I can see now that Derrick and Alicia must be having a person in their life who has a similar philosophy or maybe I'm just thinking too much
Arriving beside the car I opened the trunk to put my bags in it when I closed it I saw both my new friends freeze on the spot in front of the door with their eyes wide open in disbelief I chuckled I little before going behind them and saying
-Never seen a car before my friends?
-Shut up that's not a car that's a fucking Audi grandsphere ev 2025 limo they only made 300 of those worldwide and I know it because I fucking love cars said Derrick, Alicia looked even more shocked after hearing her brother talking about the car
-Hehe you would love both of my cars back home then lucky for you when I come here in September I plan to bring one of them i will take you for a spin if you want also if you know where the races around here are taking place it would be awesome I said whispering the end of my sentence in his ears
Hearing us talk made Alicia giggle to herself a bit I could hear her say ''boys'' in a tone that clearly was saying that we were all the same I couldn't blame her I think that man and car go in tandem so I had nothing to say about her reaction
I opened the door of the car and made a gesture for them to get in seeing their reluctance in doing so I sighed and said in all seriousness
-Dont care about anything just get in already if the car gets dirty we will just buy another one don't worry
They both looked at me like I was crazy which made me drop my acting face and laugh out loud
-I was just kidding I couldn't help it seeing you both so stressed I just had to hahaha
-Not cool bro not cool! said Derrick while getting in followed by Alicia and then I also stepped in while chuckling to myself
-So where do you youngsters want to go? asked Nigel
I looked toward Derrick since he was the one leading the dance for the rest of the day.

-Hahaha so you speak French now Derrick or you just wanted to show what you learned from that snobbish character in TV series and movies
-Sorry, sorry I always wanted to try and say this since you finally gave me a chance to do so you can't blame me hahaha
I shook my head with amusement in my eyes looking toward Alicia, she was trying with everything she had to blend herself with the seats of the car she probably wanted to disappear from my gaze or maybe she was just ashamed of her brother's behavior but in any case, I really thought we would get a really fun day all together
We drove through the city until we arrived at our destination Derrick told me that this now iconic food truck is one of NYC's most notable, thanks to its drastic rise to fame in the past couple of years. Birria-Landia originated in Jackson Heights back in 2019 since they wanted to show me what New York has to offer they took me to the original place, Birria-Landia now has 4 locations across the city, specializing in their mouth-watering Tijuana-style birria tacos. Their menu is simple, consisting of tacos, mulitas, and tostadas, which absolutely MUST be dipped into their homemade consomé sauce, and he weirdly insisted on this.
The place was crowded so I had Nigel get our order while we sat in the car talking that's when I learned that Alicia was studying the same thing as me Music she wanted to be a singer I hadn't heard her sing yet but she had a beautiful talking voice so I think that she must also have a beautiful singing voice I asked for her number since we would be going to the same schools and also probably be in the same classes together I also gave my number to Derrick, of course, I wouldn't be myself if I didn't tease him a bit so I sent him photos of my cars and I could practically see him drooling on his phone
After devouring my tacos, because once I started eating them I couldn't stop myself they were really good not as good as what I can make but with how hungry I was they were close to my cuisine when I said this they both laughed at me not believing me one bit I took it like a challenge so I said that I would show them one day which made both of them laugh some more after that Derrick brought us to Wafels & Dinges for desserts I was not sure about waffles for desserts but I must say these food trucks aren't as bad as I pictured them to be in my head the food was delicious, standing while eating added a layer of charm especially since you could see people doing the same thing as us
Alicia chose the second stop in our little journey she brought me to Fulton Street (Lower Manhattan) I had never seen as many artists in one place as here in both of my lives she told me that Times Square probably had 2 times more artists than here but that with all the sound there the quality was lowered
This journey was really fun before parting ways with them I assured them that I would keep in touch and that they would be the first to know it when I came back for the start of the school year I bide them farewells then made my way back to the hotel I think its time to tell my Uncle that I don't plan on visiting the school I want to discover everything when ill be attending and also I hope Alicia will explore with me (giggles)
