Bound Barriers

Chapter 8

3:00 AM, 13 November 1981, Epping Forest, London

-Alexander Wells-

He ignored the struggling vampire in his barrier as blood continued to slowly drip from the severed wrist of the vampire. The vampire seemed like he wanted to say something but the tight bounds he was under prevented him from even moving his mouth, let alone speaking coherent sentences.

He surveyed the area as he found this forest to be the perfect choice for what he was about to do, especially since it was the early hours of the morning and even if somebody, by any chance, heard anything, they would be too afraid to investigate the anomaly since nobody in their right mind would try and come in this ancient woodland forest.

He flew up to check the surrounding area to see if he could spot any clearing or area where his barriers could dig in.

Another nifty feature of his barriers that he had figured out over the last couple of days. The barriers could absorb kinetic energy as well, making them ideal for stopping motions in objects. It was not a hundred percent absorption but it was enough to stop the soil from caving in around them as he found a suitable clearing in the forest and commanded his barriers to dig in.

He watched as his barriers, under simple orders to expand underground and form a rectangular box for him to experiment on the vampire. He had a little pent-up aggression to spare on the poor vampire.

Once the box had been created deep underground, he created another set of invisible barriers to cover the dirt that had been dug out to create his temporary prison. Looking around, he checked to see if anybody was looking but then he realised that he had been invisible all this time.

Mentally kicking himself for becoming way too paranoid, he entered the underground room using the entrance that closed as soon as he and his carry-ons entered the dungeon.

Once inside, he opened the barrier and allowed the slowly asphyxiating vampire to take in large mouthfuls of air greedily.

"*hah* *hah* Who are you?" Somehow the vampire was able to sense him despite him being in invisible mode, though he was not in the completely isolating barrier as that would require him to cast a much larger barrier to store in the required oxygen.

He created multiple micro barriers in front of his mouth that allowed his voice to hit different surfaces at different angles before exiting his barrier, allowing him to distort his voice, effectively masking his identity. The good thing about that was that it was completely random as well due to the airflow in a room never being identical to another room.

"I don't think you are in any position to question me." His words were accompanied by a telling tightening of the barriers around the vampire. The ones around his crotch and neck must be hurting him a lot.

"Alright, I'll talk. What do you want to know?"

"Why don't you start with your name and identity?" he asked with an empty voice.

"I am Lucian Nightshade," The vampire said with a haughty look in his eyes as if waiting for Alexander to recognise him and set him free at the same instant.

"I am sorry, am I supposed to know who that is?" he asked Lucian with the same empty tone of voice but the difference this time was the question was accompanied by a piece of barrier that extended from Alexander's hand and was now firmly lodged in the chest, just barely missing the vampire's heat.

"Argh! You Bastard, I don't know who you are but The Nocturne Coven will not let this go. I will come back for your head." He ignored the vampire's screams and struggles as he got some interesting feedback from the barriers.

Alexander was surprised internally as the piece of barrier that came into contact with the chest found a surprisingly high density of magic around it. If he had even the slightest doubt about the possible innocence of the vampire around him, the words and threats he was uttering along with the woman behind him cleared all his doubts.

On top of that, he didn't know what it was but ever since his barriers had come into contact with the vampire, his mind was filled with more and more aggressive thoughts. It was as if there was something inside him that was compelling him to completely eviscerate the vampire in front of him.

If this was a controlled environment and if Alexander was aware of the drawbacks of his powers, he would not have done what he did next but at that moment, all he could hear were his thoughts telling him to kill kill KILL!

Somehow, despite all that, Alexander refused to just kill him for the sake of killing him so his mind pivoted to complete the desire. It began appealing to the scientific curiosity within Alexander which was then coupled with his intense desire to become strong enough to survive whatever this world threw at them.

So, with cold methodical intent, Alexander slowly moved the sharp conjured lance towards the vampire's heart. The closer it came to the heart, the more amount of magic the barrier could detect and absorb,

He didn't know what overtook him at that moment but he stopped the lance just shy of piercing the vampire's heart and looked at Lucian, grinning darkly.

All he could see in the eyes of Lucian was terror as his head had long been snapped into place using another one of his barriers as his heart was slowly being pierced by his barrier.

Oddly enough, there was no heavy spurt of blood as the vampire's heart was slowly being torn into two.

His visage must have looked terrifying to Lucian as he could feel his barriers absorbing more and more of the potent magical energy present in the heart.

Unexpectedly, the energy was of such magnitude that he quickly had to create multiple barriers of increasing lengths and connect them to the lance so as to preserve the rich magical energy that was being absorbed from the now-dead vampire.

As such, a weird scene took place in the temporary dungeon he had created. There was a thin piece of barrier that had pierced the vampire's body that soon crumbled into dust as there was no magic holding it together in place anymore. The lance was then extended into a huge rectangular block that extended far behind Alexander's body. The entire barrier construct glowed with a dark blue colour tinged with a dark red colour as magic swirled inside the cuboidal shape of the container as if it were a liquid.

The liquid's glow cast an eerie red shade into the dungeon as now the only two people remaining were the thralled woman and Alexander himself.

He then changed the shape of the barrier but what he didn't expect was that due to the density of magic swirling inside the barrier, the barrier had become exponentially harder to manipulate so instead of it being an effortless command that could be done absentmindedly, he had to concentrate hard for over a minute before the barrier changed its shape and became a bigger rectangle that could be carried out of the dungeon easily.

Finally done with the barrier, he now turned his attention towards the woman that he suspected to be a thrall of that vampire he had just killed. He expected her to have a reaction to her vampire elder being killed and he was right as a few seconds after the vampire died, her face began twitching erratically.

The twitching slowly began spreading to the rest of her body and then culminated with her entire body seizing and blood coming out of her mouth as her eyes remained tightly shut in pain.

Amidst the sound of her grunts of pain, he panicked and did the only thing he remembered regarding healing that he had read in the notebook he was provided with when he first arrived in this accursed world.

He started injecting the thrall with the magic he had siphoned off the vampire. Although the magic looked enormous in his perspective, he had thought it was only because of the fact that in his previous expedition, he had only absorbed the magic belonging to an inactive wand holstered in an ordinary non-magical holster.

This time, the difference was that he had absorbed the entirety of the magic of an alive (undead?) being.

As it turned out, the vampire probably was someone of note as only a single drop in the veritable lake of magic he had stored in the barrier was enough for the thrall's body to stop twitching and the bleeding to stop.

He heaved a sigh of relief as he realised that he could probably stabilise her enough for further medication as long as he gave her some magic that was coalesced behind him in the form of that barrier.

He then blinked in confusion as the lance that he had inserted into the woman began gaining the same dark red tinge as the magic in the barrier began draining at an alarming rate.

Flustered, he tried to rip the lance out of the thrall only to further panic as the barrier refused to budge from its place at all.

In the end, he could only watch on helplessly as the entire barrier that was filled with magic was drained out of the entirety of its magic. Midway through the process, the thrall began floating in the air as her entire being began to bubble out, for lack of a better term.

Her hair regained its black shine and her face gained a rosy colour as her body filled out the tattered outfit she was wearing, filling all the curves in the right places. Then her body began taking in the same dark reddish outline that was there in his barrier.

Soon, as his barrier was drained, it began losing its shape and outline before being absorbed into the woman's body. Even the hole that had formed due to his haphazard treatment filled in, leaving behind healthy skin, without a single sign of a hole being there at all.

He could only watch, transfixed as the woman in front of him began exerting pressure on the same or even higher level than Dumbledore.

His first instinct was running out of the dungeon and letting it collapse on top of her which would at least, hopefully, grant him enough time to safely escape from the super vampire in front of him because he was pretty sure that normal vampires, no matter how old, were as strong or even stronger than Dumbledore, especially in the Harry Potter world.

He then blinked as he recalled the warning he was given when he had first entered this world. This world was slightly different from the normal Harry Potter world and it was up to him to find out about its differences, small or big both.

As he looked at the floating monstrosity of a woman in front of him, the only thought going through his mind was - 'This is a slight change?!'

He could only think of fleeing but it was as if his entire body was rooted on the spot as he suddenly began feeling extremely lightheaded.
