Chapter 1: Reborn

I didn't think I'd ever find myself in this situation. I mean, who would?

"Welcome, my child. It seems that you've reached the end of your journey in this life."

I'm strangely calm for being dead, but I guess lying in a hospital just waiting for the cancer to take me while my family suffers because of me has given me some time to come to terms with the idea of death.

"It seems so." I respond, "If I may, who or what are you?"

I couldn't make out exactly what it is that's in front of me. One moment I'm looking at a young girl with black hair, then a middle-aged woman wearing a dress, and then the woman turns into an old man with a long silver beard wearing purple robes. But one thing that never changed, no matter what it looked like, were its eyes. They weren't just any shade of gold; they seemed to shimmer like molten gold under sunlight. Their eyes held a depth that seemed to draw me in, like I was peering into a bottomless pool of liquid gold. I had to be careful when making eye contact with it, or I might lose myself.

"I am everything that has been, is, and will be. I have many names and titles, but you can just call me God." God replied with a soothing feminine voice that could make even the angriest man calm down with a single word. "I see my changing is causing you some confusion; I'll try to limit it for you." She said as he turned into a simple-looking, middle-aged man with brown hair and a gray suit—nothing special except, of course, his eyes, which radiated his endless wisdom.

"Thank you, but what's next? Am I going to heaven or hell?" I asked curiously.

God closed his eyes and took a moment to respond to my question: "I see you've suffered a lot, my child. You haven't had the chance to live a full life like all children should be able to do at your age," he pauses again. "So I've decided to give you another chance to live, sadly not in your original world. I'll allow you to choose where you want to go."

My 'eyes', if I even had any right now in my current form, shot open, and my mind started thinking of all the possibilities I had. But if I get to choose where... there's only one choice for me: "Can I be reborn in Harry Potter!?"

God seemed amused as she laughed at my excitement. "Yes, yes, child, I'll even allow you to have two wishes!"

"Thank you, God!" I pause, thinking for a second: "Can I have some time to decide?"

"Of course, my child; take as long as you need." He replies as he closes his eyes, and for a second, I swear, I saw his eyes change color right before they closed. It must've been my imagination.

....

After an unknown amount of time passes and after a lot of thinking, I've finally decided what I want my wishes to be. It's a hard decision, you know? I open my eyes and finally take note of what's around me—nothing. It's... surreal, really. Everything around me is just... white. There was not a speck of color to be found, not even a hint of shadow. It's like being enveloped in a void where nothing exists except for the stark whiteness that surrounds me.

I reach out, trying to feel something, anything, but I don't feel my hand move. I try again, but still, nothing. I try calling out, but my voice is lost in the emptiness.

Just as the idea of just being stuck here forever comes to mind, I feel something coming from behind me. I turn around to see a young girl, roughly 13–14, walking towards me wearing a full black outfit that really makes her stand out against the infinite void of white nothingness behind her. I see her look up and start to wave at me while running over.

"Hey there! Have you made up your mind about your wishes?" she asks when she runs up to me.

I give her a sad smile. "Yeah, I think so. My first wish is that I want to be forgotten by everyone in my old world. I want my family to start fresh without me holding them back." I start to feel tears forming in my eyes, which is weird because I'm sure I don't even have eyes right now.

God gives me a comforting smile. "It's alright, child. Cry as much as you need, but don't worry child, it can be done. What is your second wish?"

It feels kind of weird being comforted by a child, even though I know she's way older than I'll ever be. "Thank you. For my second wish, I want to be able to speak all languages, including all magical and non-magical creatures."

"Hmm." God takes a second to think about my wish. "That's closer to two wishes, but I'll allow it," she said. "Well, what's your third wish?"

Huh?

"I thought you said two wishes, God?" I was confused.

"I did, but after hearing your first wish, I felt like I could just do that for you without it being one of your wishes," he told me.

Sweet!

"Thanks God!" I start thinking about what I could ask for. After thinking for a little bit longer, I came up with an idea that sounds interesting and seems useful. "God, I think I know what my third wish is. I want....."

"Hmm, that is an interesting idea; I don't believe I've ever had someone ask for that. Very well, my child; you have chosen all of your wishes. I wish you good luck in your new life." She winks at me with a smile that makes her look crazy. "You'll need it."

Confused, I try asking what she meant by that, but a force that pulls me back cuts me off, and my vision fades into black.
