Chapter 5: Chapter 5:

[Lily's Pov]

My name is Lily Evans. I remember the surprise I felt when Severus Snape, whom we call 'Sev,' first told my sister and me that we were witches. It was a revelation that came when I was just nine years old, during our very first encounter with Sev. He shared with us what little he knew about the Wizarding world, his knowledge limited as it was. Two years later, our acceptance letters arrived, and not long after, Professor McGonagall visited our home to demonstrate that magic is indeed real.

Today, Professor McGonagall will take us shopping for wands, uniforms, books, and other essentials. Sev will join us too, as his mother is unwell and his father despises magic. I feel terribly for Sev, but I'm powerless to change his situation. The sound of the bell interrupts my thoughts, and 'Tuny'—my sister Petunia—rushes to open the door, her excitement for the day palpable.

In a little while, Tuny brought the professor to us. We greeted her, and she informed us that she had to pick up another student and couldn't linger long. We were already prepared, so we stepped outside, ready to depart. Then, the professor produced an object. Driven by curiosity, I asked, 'Professor, what is that?' She explained that it was a Portkey, used for teleporting to a specific location, and added that it was given by a House-elf named Whisk from the Peverell family. Sev asked the professor something, and I overheard—it seems the Peverells are an ancient and renowned family in the Wizarding world. My curiosity about this family began to grow. Soon after, we all used the Portkey and vanished from there.

In a moment, we apparated onto a ground marked with a triangle and a circle. I thought I was going to be sick; it seems everyone feels this way at first. Then the professor explained that it happens to everyone the first time, but you get used to it. That's a relief, otherwise, I'd be vomiting everywhere. I stared at the symbol on the ground, the Deathly Hallows, and asked, "Is this the symbol of the Deathly Hallows? But it's just a triangle and a circle." Severus said he would explain later. I nodded, and then we noticed the beach nearby. It was stunningly beautiful, unlike any other beach, and then we headed towards the manor.

As we reach the gates of the manor, a small creature is there, perhaps the very one who gave the Professor the Portkey. What had the Professor called it? Ah yes, a house-elf. It welcomes us, its tiny form bowing politely. By the main door of the manor, on both sides, are what I could only describe as swimming pools, or perhaps they are small ponds.

Whisk, the house-elf, leads us toward the drawing room. Upon arrival, I meet a boy—the reason we're here. But what strikes me isn't why he's here; it's that his hair and eyes are exactly like mine. I don't know why, but I feel myself being drawn to him. He's definitely cute, but there's something else, something special about him. Could he be my future life partner? I find myself blushing at the thought. "Lily, what are you thinking? You're only 11 years old; there's plenty of time," I remind myself.

After a while, he introduces himself to the Professor. His name is Hadrian. But why is he looking at me? And why is my heart beating so fast? I want to look back at him, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

As Dad begins the introductions, when it's my turn, I can't help myself. I blush and, with a shy smile, I introduce myself.

Then, the questions turn to family, because Harry's family is an ancient one in the wizarding world, and for the first time, someone is going to Hogwarts. Where have they been all these centuries? I used to be interested in the 'House of Peverell' or the 'Deathly Hallows', but now there's someone else. I need to understand why I'm feeling this attraction towards Harry.

After a while, we prepare to apparate to the Leaky Cauldron.

[POV End]

––––––––––

With a 'pop' sound, we all apparate onto a Muggle street. I hear Professor McGonagall say, "The Leaky Cauldron pub, located on Charing Cross Road—a Muggle street in London—serves as a gateway between the non-magical world and Diagon Alley, which is a shopping location."

I feel a surge of happiness remembering how, in my past life, I came here with Hagrid. Now, I'm here with Professor McGonagall, the Evans family, and Severus Snape. No matter what I do, my gaze just can't seem to tear away from Lily.

Confusion swirls within me like a thick fog. Should I see her as 'Mother' or simply as 'Lily'? She's my age, and yet, everything feels so alien. I'm not in my own universe—Petunia and Lily were never twins in my world, and Petunia was just a Muggle, not a witch. But how do I possess this knowledge of universes and parallel realities? My life, it seems, has turned into a puzzle, one that I'm a part of yet unable to solve.

As we enter the Leaky Cauldron, the familiar cacophony of voices and clinking glasses greets me. It's just as bustling as I remember from my last visit. Yet, amidst the crowd, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with a tinge of disappointment. If a Muggle family were to walk in right now, they'd probably wrinkle their noses at the sight. The place, though brimming with magical charm, is crying out for a renovation—a fresh coat of paint, perhaps, to bring back some of its old glory.

I watch in silent amazement as Professor McGonagall greets Tom with a courteous nod. She then ushers us toward the reception, leading to a door that opens into a small, cluttered room. The brick walls are littered with rubbish, a stark reminder of the world we're leaving behind. She begins to explain the method of entering Diagon Alley, and I can't help but feel a surge of excitement mixed with a twinge of nervousness. The Evans family and Severus are beside me, their faces etched with expressions of disbelief and wonder. It's a sight to behold, their reactions reflecting the extraordinary nature of this moment.

"First, we'll go to Gringotts for the Money Exchange, because Muggle money isn't used in the Wizarding world," Professor McGonagall says. I, speak up, "Professor, I also have business at Gringotts, but it might take me a bit longer." She nods in agreement, understanding the importance of my errand.

The journey through Diagon Alley was a sensory overload; shops displaying an array of curious and fascinating items lined the path. Eventually, we arrived at a pristine white building, none other than Gringotts Bank, the only bank of the Wizarding world. As we neared the grand front doors of the bank, a sign came into view, displaying the infamous goblin poem —or a warning:

'Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed,

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn,

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.'

As soon as we stepped into the bank, I discreetly avoided Professor McGonagall. She was probably here to assist the Evans family with their money exchange. I made my way to Master Teller, my heart pounding. "Excuse me, sir," I said politely.

"What do you need, wizard?" Master Teller replied, not bothering to look up from his work.

"Sir, I need to take the inheritance test," I explained.

"That'll be 10 Galleons," he stated matter-of-factly. Without hesitation, I retrieved the coins from my bag and handed them over.

Master Teller counted them, then motioned for me to follow him. We arrived at a door adorned with ancient runes. As we entered, I saw four more runes inscribed on the floor. In the center stood a podium with a mysterious bowl.

The Master Teller withdrew a dagger, its blade etched with runes. "Cut your right palm with this dagger and let three drops of blood fall into the bowl. The cut will heal on its own," he instructed. I did as told, the sharp pain was fleeting, and my palm healed instantly, leaving no trace of the wound. The runes around the room began to glow, pulsating with a magic that felt both old and alive. Suddenly, a parchment fell from the ceiling, fluttering down like a leaf in the wind.
