Chapter 23: A Raging Storm of Bullets

The hail of bullets rained down upon Feng Ruoxi, but she moved with the grace and precision of a deadly dancer, her years of training as a spy giving her the edge she needed. The guards, though numerous and well-armed, were no match for her lightning-fast reflexes and unparalleled marksmanship.

Feng Ruoxi's pistol barked repeatedly, each shot finding its mark with deadly accuracy. She weaved through the chaos, her body a blur as she ducked, dodged, and returned fire, taking down the boss's men one by one.

The boss, his eyes wide with a mixture of fear and disbelief, watched helplessly as his carefully trained bodyguards fell to the onslaught of this lone, petite intruder. "Impossible!" he cried, his voice laced with panic. "How is this happening?"

Feng Ruoxi's gaze never wavered from her targets, her expression calm and resolute. "You should have heeded my warning, you pathetic excuse for a man," she said, her voice dripping with contempt.

The sound of gunfire echoed through the casino, sending the patrons into a frenzy. They scrambled for the exits, their shrieks of terror adding to the cacophony of violence.

Suddenly, a bullet grazed Feng Ruoxi's shoulder, drawing a sharp hiss of pain from her lips. She staggered momentarily, but refused to let the injury slow her down. With gritted teeth, she pressed on, her weapon still trained on the boss.

The boss, sensing an opportunity, tried to bargain. "Wait! Wait, please!" he cried, his hands raised in a gesture of surrender. "I'll do anything you want! Just name your price!"

Feng Ruoxi's eyes narrowed as she considered his offer. She knew that the casino was a valuable asset, and with her resources dwindling, the prospect of controlling such a lucrative enterprise was tempting. However, she also understood the inherent danger of trusting a man like the boss.

"Your words mean nothing to me," she said, her voice cold and unforgiving. "You've done nothing but terrorize the innocent, and I won't allow you to continue."

The boss's face contorted with desperation. "Please, I'm begging you! I'll sign over the casino to you, just spare my life!"

Feng Ruoxi paused, her mind racing. The casino could provide her with the financial resources she so desperately needed, and it would ensure that the Xia family was no longer harassed. But she knew that she could never truly trust the boss, not after everything he had done.

"Very well," she said, her tone calculating. "I'll take the casino, but know this: if I so much as hear a whisper of you or your men causing any trouble, I'll come back, and I won't be so merciful."

The boss, his face pale with relief, hastily pulled out a pen and paper, scribbling furiously. With a trembling hand, he signed the documents, handing them over to Feng Ruoxi.

Feng Ruoxi tucked the papers into her pocket, her eyes never leaving the boss. "Remember, I'll be watching you," she said, her voice laced with warning.

The boss nodded, his entire body trembling. "I-I understand. Just please, leave me be."

Feng Ruoxi's grip on her pistol tightened as the boss scrambled to sign over the casino documents. She watched his shaking hands as he scribbled his signature, knowing full well that she could never trust a man like him.

"There, it's done," the boss said, his voice trembling. "The casino is yours, just please, let me go."

Feng Ruoxi studied the papers for a moment, her expression unreadable. "You really think I'm just going to let you walk away after everything you've done?" she asked, her tone laced with contempt.

The boss's eyes widened, and he fell to his knees, his hands raised in a gesture of surrender. "Please, I'll do anything! I've learned my lesson, I swear! Just don't kill me!"

Feng Ruoxi scoffed, her finger tightening on the trigger. "Your words mean nothing to me. You're a coward and a thug, and you deserve nothing less than what's coming to you."

The boss's face contorted with fear, and he began to beg for his life. "No, please! I'll leave the city, I'll never bother anyone again, just spare me!"

Feng Ruoxi's eyes narrowed as she considered his words. She knew that she couldn't trust him, that he would only continue his reign of terror the moment he had the chance. And she couldn't afford to have that kind of threat hanging over her head.

"You had your chance," she said, her voice cold and unwavering. "And you squandered it."

Before the boss could react, Feng Ruoxi pulled the trigger, the sound of the gunshot echoing through the now-empty casino. The boss crumpled to the floor, his eyes glazed over in death.

Feng Ruoxi surveyed the scene, her gaze tinged with a mixture of satisfaction and regret. She had never taken pleasure in ending a life, but she knew that sometimes it was a necessary evil.

With a deep breath, she turned and made her way out of the casino, her mind already racing with the implications of her actions. She now controlled a valuable asset, one that could provide her with the resources she so desperately needed.

As she made her way through the chaos of the casino, Feng Ruoxi couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. She had not only protected Xia Xingxing's family, but she had also acquired a valuable asset that could help her regain some of the resources she had lost when she was reborn as Feng Ruoxi.

But the cost had been high, and Feng Ruoxi couldn't ignore the weight of the guilt that settled on her shoulders. She had taken a life, something she had vowed to never do again after her days as Bai Yunshu.

As she made her way back to the villa, Feng Ruoxi clutched her wounded shoulder, the pain a constant reminder of the risks she had taken. She knew that she couldn't afford to let her guard down, not when there was so much at stake.

Once safely back in her room, Feng Ruoxi carefully tended to her injury, her fingers deftly removing the bullet and cleaning the wound. The pain was excruciating, but she had endured worse during her time as a spy.

As she wrapped the bandage around her shoulder, Feng Ruoxi couldn't help but wonder what the future held. She had gained a valuable asset in the form of the casino, but she knew that it would come with its own set of challenges.

The boss's family was powerful, and they would undoubtedly seek to reclaim what was theirs. Feng Ruoxi would need to be vigilant, to build a network of allies and resources that could protect her from the looming threat.

But for now, as she settled into her bed, Feng Ruoxi allowed herself a moment of respite. The adrenaline had worn off, and the exhaustion of the day's events weighed heavily on her. She closed her eyes, her mind already drifting off to sleep, the pain in her shoulder a constant reminder of the sacrifices she had made.

Tomorrow, she would need to face the consequences of her actions, but for now, she was content to simply rest, knowing that she had done what was necessary to protect those she cared about.
