Chapter 35: Chapter 34: Repair

Vyran

[Retra- Planet Orginal)

I began working on fixing up Valkyrie. Thankfully, Deros and I both kept tools in our mechas. Although, I could transform my fingers into several tools, including a jackhammer. Although, it would've felt odd. But it was nice knowing I had that as a backup.

Deros had gone looking for some more food. We had to stock up before we moved on.

Sis was still unconscious. It had only been a day since she fought Commander Zolstein. I wondered if all the Commanders of Titanos were that strong. If so, we might have more trouble in our hands, but we had to keep fighting. We couldn't lose Orginal to an empire that thought attacking a planet unprovoked was warranted.

I bit my lip as I thought about my own planet. Hopefully, things back home were still peaceful. I had to put my trust on my colleagues back home to protect the place.

My eyes shifted skyward. Perhaps, going back home was the best way of saving Orginal. We needed to rally an armada. The three of us alone weren't enough. And Orginal's main fighting force had been destroyed.

"I'm back!" Deros said, carrying a basket full of fruit. He really was amazing. He had lost his home and yet he kept going on.

"Thanks."

"How is Valkyrie coming along?"

I glanced up at my mecha. I had managed to paint a new protective coating on her. And fix most of the damage from the overheating, but I still needed some parts.

"Well, for what I have available."

"We need to go looking for those parts, huh?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Although, I was thinking, it might be best to go back home."

He blinked. "To your world?"

I nodded. "We can't defend Orginal by ourselves. We also need to report about Titanos to the rest of the intergalactic community. Orginal is just their first step. We need to nip their invasion of our universe in the bud while we still can."

Deros looked at me, his eyes wide in surprise. "You're... right," he said after a moment. "We can't do this alone. We need to rally support, inform the alliance about Titanos' invasion. But... won't that take time? We can't just leave Orginal undefended."

"True," I admitted, leaning back against Valkyrie's metal leg. "But staying here, trying to fight off Titanos on our own... that's a losing battle, Deros. We need reinforcements. We need to alert our worlds, our allies. And the sooner we do that, the sooner we can bring the fight to Titanos."

He was silent for a moment, deep in thought. Then, he nodded. "You're right, Vyran. I don't like leaving Orginal, but... but you're right. We need help. We need to go back to your home."

I gave him a small smile, feeling a sense of relief. I knew it was a hard decision for Deros, leaving his home planet behind. But it was the best choice, the only choice we had if we wanted to stand a chance against Titanos.

"We'll come back, Deros," I promised, meeting his gaze. "We'll come back with an army. And we'll take back Orginal."

Deros nodded, a determined look on his face. "Right. We'll take back Orginal. And we'll make Titanos pay for what they've done. Although, do you intend to abandon Valkyrie here?"

I glanced up at my robot and frowned. I didn't want to, but there was no way she could fly. Our hope was that the ship we took to get here was still safe. Sis had put it on autopilot and had its defenses active. If the Titanos didn't find it, then it was probably orbiting the planet right now.

Deros sighed. "It will take a while for Varia to recover. In her condition, she can travel. I can go look for the parts you need."

I blinked. "You?"

He nodded. "Yeah, as an Orginal, I know this place better than either of you. If you went off, you could get lost. Plus, Aegisa is still in working condition."

I furrowed my brow. "That won't be too dangerous for you?"

Deros picked up a pomegranate-looking fruit and sighed. "It probably will be. But it's a risk I am willing to take. Plus, I could always pretend that I'm Commander Zolstein. We look alike, don't we?"

"His eyes are greener than yours and he is more toned."

Deros took a deep breath. Suddenly, his arms became toned.

"Eh?"

"Remember, we Orginal can manipulate our own hormones. That means I can make myself grow taller or more muscular if I want."

"How do you revert back? Aren't those kind of changes typically permanent?"

Deros chuckled, flexing his newly muscular arms. "It's all about control, Vyran," he explained. "When we manipulate our hormones, we can also control how long the changes last. I can make myself look like this for a few hours, a few days, or even permanently. But the moment I decide to revert back to my original form, my body will follow my command."

I blinked, amazed. "That's... incredible."

He shrugged, his muscles deflating as he returned to his original form. "It's just one of the many abilities we Orginals have developed as a species to survive. But enough about that. I'll go look for the parts you need. You stay here, take care of your sister, and try to get Valkyrie in a workable condition."

I nodded, feeling a wave of gratitude for Deros. "Thank you, Deros. Be careful out there."

He gave me a firm nod, determination in his eyes. "I will. And when I return, we'll fix up Valkyrie and set off for your home world. Together, we'll rally the forces we need to take back Orginal."

With that, he grabbed several fruits and opened up Aegisa's cockpit with a remote. He jumped inside and flew over the blue waters.

I turned my attention back to Valkyrie, knowing that I had a lot of work ahead of me. But with Deros braving the dangers to get the parts we needed, and my sister slowly recovering, I felt a renewed sense of hope.

I worked on Valkyrie for a while longer before my stomach growled loudly, reminding me that I hadn't eaten since the early morning. I looked down at the basket of fruit that Deros had left behind, my mouth watering at the sight of the juicy, ripe food.

I picked up a fruit that resembled an apple, taking a bite. The sweet, tangy juice exploded in my mouth, refreshing and filling. I ate in silence, my thoughts drifting to Deros, hoping he was safe.

Once I finished eating, I returned to my work on Valkyrie. It was tedious, meticulous work, but I didn't mind. It kept my mind occupied, kept me from worrying too much about the task that lay ahead of us.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the ground, I finally called it a day. I wiped the sweat from my brow, looking up at Valkyrie. She was still far from fully repaired, but she was in better shape than she had been this morning.

I allowed myself a small smile. We were making progress. Slowly, but surely, we were getting there. And with each passing day, we were one step closer to rallying the forces we needed to stand against Titanos.

With a sigh, I leaned back against Valkyrie's leg, looking up at the stars that were beginning to twinkle in the twilight sky. Each one was a reminder of the vast universe that lay beyond Orginal, of the countless worlds that were at risk if Titanos was not stopped.

"We'll stop them," I whispered to the night sky. "We'll rally the forces we need, and we'll stop them."

With that promise hanging in the air, I closed my eyes, allowing the peaceful sounds of the night to lull me to sleep. Tomorrow was another day, another chance to fix Valkyrie and prepare for our journey home. Although it was also another day of potential fighting...
