Chapter 2: Chapter One: Awakened!

Chapter One: Awakened!

The story occurs in a fictional world called One-Piece, a novel and manga created by Eiichiro Oda, a renowned author and artist. It all begins in the East Blue, a well-known stretch of ocean. The protagonist, a soon-to-be legendary pirate captain known for wearing a straw hat, starts his journey here. However, let's focus on Luna Island, located in East Blue, a distant neighbor to Dawn Island and just short of the Goa Kingdom. On Luna Island, a charming little village boasts a large lighthouse near the Farshore, situated on a cliff overlooking the open sea.

The island acts as a resting point for wayward travelers on the journey, with the large lighthouse acting as a beacon of hope in the harsh storms that flow by the island. To guide weary fishermen home. On the island near the village, there lived a tiny shack, which seemed to house only two occupants: one was a young woman nearly reaching her early thirties, and the other was a young boy who appeared to be eight. This boy was none other than our protagonist. His name in his new life was Aren, Leavis Aren, and he was reborn in the world of One Piece as a newborn.

Aren lived in a village with his mother, Leavis Dazy, and his late father, a town fisherman. One day, his father set out to catch a big gang of fish that he had noticed earlier that morning, but a sudden storm sank his ship, and he passed away in the accident. At the time of his father's passing, Aren was too young to remember much about him. Nonetheless, he loved his father and felt a little about his loss. Aren's mother, Leavis Dazy, is a kind, loving, and outstanding woman who took great care of him after her husband's death. She played with him and provided him with the support he needed.

A single mother grieving the loss of her husband raised her son with the help of the tight-knit village community. His mother was the village doctor and healer, providing care and treatment for the sick and assisting in childbirth. She was respected and regarded as a kind and pure figure, almost like a benevolent goddess. After his father's passing, they moved closer to the forest, where his mother could easily plant a garden for herbs and find what she needed. Although his mother claimed this was the reason for the move, he suspected that the memories of his father in their old home were too much for her to bear. Despite his hunch, he kept his thoughts to himself and accepted the move.

Aren offered to be his best son and help his mother through a difficult time. For a couple of years, not much happened in the village except for a recent plague that his mother was able to remedy. However, everything changes when Aren discovers his devil fruit abilities. Let me give you some context if you're wondering how it happened.

* Flashback Start *

Aren's father returned home late one evening after drinking with his fishing buddies at the village's local bar, Drunken Whiskey. He walked through the door, slightly wobbling, with rosy cheeks, hiccuping slightly, and sporting a goofy smile. His father loved to drink, but he was terrible at holding his liquor, unlike his mother, who could drink an entire barrel like a pro. When his father stumbled through the door, he didn't notice his mother's scrutinizing glare focused directly on him. It wasn't until he stood right before her that he saw her. All the color seemed to drain from his face. "Honey, you're up. I thought you'd be asleep with little Aren upstairs. Hehehe, I'm sorry!" he apologized immediately for coming home late and kowtowed to his mother, terrified. And why shouldn't he be? Aren's mother could be seriously terrifying when someone earned her wrath.

His mother just glowered at his father silently for a few more minutes. Tell she finally opens her mouth to speak. What followed was an ensuing lecture about proper self-care and the harms of alcohol intake, going into her usual lecturing mode. At the same time, she somehow managed to give off that tone of sheer disappointment that said "I'm both mad and disappointed." That could stab into the hearts of even the coldest individuals, but while that was happening, young Aren came downstairs after hearing the noise and noticed a small chest resting on the dining room table. It was a consolation prize his father had won in one of the bets with a drunken traveler passing through their village on their way to the Goa Kingdom for a business venture. The man gave his father the chest, saying he could sell the content inside for a pretty penny.

Aren's Dad, who was drunk and enjoying his night, brought a chest home but forgot about it once he started getting scolded by his wife. Curious, Aren approached the chest while his parents absorbed their conversation. Aren's father was trying to escape his punishment of sleeping on the couch for a week. Meanwhile, Aren examined the chest and opened it to look inside. He found a strange-looking pink fruit shaped like a grapefruit, with swirl patterns all across its form and a large yellow stem on top. Aren picked up the fruit, examined it from side to side, and ate it.

Upon waking up, he felt a little hungry but decided not to ask his mother for a late-night snack as she was punishing his father. However, as he bit into the fruit, the taste was not what he had expected. Instead of a fruit's sweet and juicy flavor, what he tasted was similar to old, moldy wood. "Yuck!" he exclaimed, catching his parents' attention. His father, noticing his son's reaction and the bitten fruit in his hands, turned pale like a ghost. His wife noticed his reaction and grabbed his collar, shaking him hard. "What did he eat? What did you bring into my house?" His father grew even paler, almost like a corpse.

He then explained the fruit. It was a devil's fruit in the Grand Line near Paradise and the New World. This unique fruit can grant its consumer unique abilities and powers but with the added drawback of never being able to swim in the sea again during their lifetime. This realization shocked Aren and his mother, leading her to become worried about him and check on her little boy. Once she was sure he was alright, she ordered him to go back upstairs to sleep while she and his father chatted about bringing unknown things inside their house. Aren was slightly terrified of the face his kind mother was making and made a solemn vow never to get on her wrong side. After Aren went upstairs to get back in bed, what happened next was long hours of screaming, pleading, and the angry tirades of a mother whaling into her spouse.

Poor Aren's father was left out in the cold that night, battered and bruised, and the only village doctor who could heal him was angry with him.

*Flashback End*

After the incident, Aren acquired his devil fruit abilities. However, he was unable to access them due to his father's death, the move, and his responsibilities of helping out his mother in her clinic and ensuring her well-being. Once his mother's mental health improved, he had time to explore and understand his abilities. After some time, he finally discovered what he was capable of and what his devil fruit powers were.

End.
