Chapter 62: Chapter 62 Fall of an empire.
The battle was won and the enemy suffered more than 85% casualties in space and 100% on the ground.
After their fleet was destroyed the ground forces left behind fought to the last and those that were too injured to fight blew themselves up leaving no trace other than a crater in the ground.
However the enemy wasn't the only one to suffer losses.
Simon's fleet lost three ships and eight more were damaged.
The Elani empire's fleet lost almost a thousand ships and hundreds were damaged.
If the enemy decided to attack once again with similar numbers, right now there would be little chance to repel them and even if they managed that the casualties would be catastrophic.
Simon spent the next few hours scanning for any survivors of the enemy but they found none.
The same went for any information the enemy made sure to destroy any and all data carriers and computer cores.
They went so far to protect their identities that their ships didn't even have any markings on them
The energy signatures registered by the sensors were similar to the Federation weapons and energy sources but that was a dead end as everyone knew that the federation would sell their outdated weapons and even warships to anyone for the right price.
Simon finally left Athena in charge and went down to the planet.
He had received communications earlier that everyone was fine but he wanted to see it for himself.
He l;anded near the palace and immediately found himself surrounded by the soldiers he left to protect the envoy and the imperial family.
-Sir we have suffered no casualties and eliminated over a hundred enemies and I suspect that this was not the work of one species.
Judging by their armor configurations we suspect that there were at least five different species involved in the attack.
Luitenant Zelinski reported.
-I saw the footage from your helmet cameras and I also think that there is more than one enemy involved in this attack but let's go and ask the empress if she has any idea who might have a reason to target them.
Simon said and started walking in the direction of the castle.
The palace guards let them pass without any problems,five minutes later they were in the palace command center.
-Your majesty,can you think of anyone who would attack your empire in such a manner?
Simon did not beat around the bush.
-Unfortunately I don't know who could do it but the prime minister and his whole family vanished.
Also their ground assault knew exactly where to strike to take out our defenses and they also knew the layout of the palace very well.
I'm afraid that we had a traitor in our midst and when his plans failed he escaped to save his skin from the punishment.
The empress said with anger in her voice.
-We have reports coming from the colonies and all of them had been attacked by an unknown fleet.
We lost ten colonies and the two that held out suffered catastrophic casualties in military personnel and civilians.
They can't hold out in case of another attack and are awaiting the orders to evacuate.
A communication technician reported from his station.
-Give the orders to evacuate and recall all the forces we still have left to the capital world.
Liara gave the orders.
-As you see my empire is crumbling around us and our alliance might not be possible anymore as we have nothing to offer.
She said sadly.
-Humanity doesn't work that way your majesty.
Envoy Sato came in when the empress was stating her last sentence.
-We became allies when we were equals,even if we didn't sign any documentation yet.
Now you were attacked and lost most of your territories but that doesn't mean that you are any less valuable of an ally.
The envoy continued.
-Thank you Envoy Sato.
The empress said with a weak smile.
She was glad that she made friends with humans as any other race would abandon her and her people the moment they heard of their losses.
At this moment Simon received a signal from the Thanatos.
-Admiral our scouts have reported in and it's a disaster.
The enemy is slaughtering everyone in the colonies they captured and they are mobilizing their fleets.
The predicted targets are the remaining colonies and the capital world.
Their estimated numbers are around six thousand ships and their estimated time of arrival is thirty two hours.
Everyone went pale when they heard what was happening.
-Tell the damaged ships that they have twenty eight hours to finish their repairs.
They don't have to be battle ready but I need them to be ready to jump in this time,if they can't do it then abandon ship and destroy it.
Simon ordered immediately.
-Your majesty you have heard what is going on so I suggest you order an evacuation of as many of your people as possible within this time.
We cannot win against that number of enemies and if I'm correct then this is the only chance to save your species from extermination.
Just as he finished speaking the empress turned to her subjects.
-Start the evacuation immediately and evacuate everyone you can.
-Where should we evacuate to your majesty?
One of the officers asked.
-Go to the Terran space.
Envoy Sato said with confidence.
-If you need more space then use our ships as well.
Simon said and ordered the terran shuttles to start evacuating the Elani ASAP.
THe alarm went off and the evacuation started immediately.
The Elani even used their older warships and any clothes space worthy vessel that could jump into FTL.
Couple of hours later Simon received the report that the damaged ships would all be able to jump to earth but most of them would need time in the repair dock after their return.
The next thing was that their destroyed ships were cleared of any data and mined, just in case their enemy wanted to reverse engineer their technology.
Unfortunately they weren't able to evacuate everyone from the planet but they did as much as they were able to.
The Elani ground forces refused to evacuate and left their spots for the civilians.
Those that remained on the planet were mostly soldiers and the old people who wanted to stay and die on their home world while trying to take as many enemies with them as they could.
Both of the colonies also evacuated along with the reminisce of their defense fleets.
In the end they managed to rescue over 75% of the Elani people and maybe some of them managed to escape from the fallen colonies but that was all that they could do for now as their time limit drew near.
