Chapter 4: Tonerimance

[Naruko PoV]
"Hello there." The boy waved at me with a warm smile from top of the branch he is sitting on. I don't know who he is and why he is friendly towards me. No one in the village expect for Jiisan and mister Ichiraku is nice to me.
"Hello, I'm Naruko Uzumaki, nice to meet you!" I returned the greeting.
He jumped down the tree and walked infront of me. "My name is Toneri, Toneri Otsutsuki." He reached out for a hand shake. "Nice to meet you Naruko chan."
I had a bit of a blush on my face. I didn't know why.
No one ever referred to me with "chan". Besides, he looks trustable and seems to be kind.
*growl*
At that moment, my stomach began to growl. I don't know why, but I felt embarrassed that Toneri heard it. He would probably laugh at me. I thought.
Instead, he took out an onigiri wrap in a large leaf and handed it to me. "You must be hungry, here have this." I thanked him and took a bite from his onigiri. It was delicious, there's some meat filling inside the onigiri. I kept eating, Toneri san watched me eating with a smile.
After I finished eating we played in the woods until it was dark. I asked if we could play again next time, he said yes, but only if I keep him being here a secret or else he wouldn't be able to come. We promised to play on the next weekend here at this place.
I was happy I made a friend, even if I can't tell anyone I'm still happy.
[Toneri PoV]
Watching my future waifu leave with a hop in her steps fills me with joy and a sense of giddy anticipation. I always liked this version of my favorite main character. Except, in this reality she is not just a product of a jutsu. And I will steal her heart.
Hanging out with her had been very enjoyable for me. Her cheerful attitude is infectious and I had to restrain myself not to tease her just yet.
I really want to just simply kidnap her back to the moon with me. That's basically what my canon counterpart did with Hinata. But that's currently a no go for me. A relationship is something that needs nurturing, dedication and effort.
Even though I would like to see it bloom and bear fruit, it's something that can't be rushed.
It was really idiotic of the original Toneri to just swoop in, kidnap Hinata and expect her to marry him just like that. Then again to be fair, dude has the skills of wooing a partner equivalent to a caveman. (See woman! Take woman! Now woman = My wife!)
Three Anbus walked out of the foliage like puppets on strings. They are already under my control from the very beginning. A shame that I don't know how to modify memories. I inwardly lamented.
"Guess I just have to take you guys with me to the dark side." I commented, not giving a crap about what they would say. Besides, these three have over heard too much for my liking.

[line break/Time skip: five days later/ Hiruzen PoV]
It has been a disaster every since I am reinstated as the Hokage. Can't a man enjoy his retirement?
First was the defection of my disciple, Orochimaru. It was a heavy blow to both the village and myself.
Then it was the Hyuga incident, where the Kumo ambassador was killed for kidnapping the Hyuga heiress. If it wasn't for me, we would've be in the middle of another war right now.
And a few days ago, the three anbu I assigned to monitor the jinchuriki had gone missing, after some investigation we couldn't find any trace of the missing anbus. Luckily nothing happened to the container.
But now word has it that there was an attempt on the life of the fire daimiyo by the root. When I heard the news I didn't believe it at first. But when I received the letter personally written by the furious fire Daimiyo demanding an explanation, I almost puked out blood. After that, I stormed into my friend's underground base. Danzo denied any involvement in the matter and we argued for at least an hour, ending the conversation with 'I'm the hokage'.
The fire Daimiyo didn't come to the village in person, instead he demanded that I go to the fire capital in person for an explanation or he would stop funding the village.
In conclusion, I will have to disband the root (again). My old friend is salty about it, but it can't be helped. This is another headache I have to deal with. Lamenting, I made my way to the fire capital with my entourage.
[Line break/ Toneri PoV]
Watching the Hiruzen, leave the village with his goons, I allowed a smile to grace my face. I was floating 5 kilometers high in the air, gliding on the wind currents from time to time. I made sure to suppress my emotions, I hope the hokage wouldn't notice my presence.
It wasn't easy to make the fire daimiyo believe that he was attacked by the roots of konoha.
First: I traced two teams of root anbu in the land of mist and the land of rivers. Then I used my chakra puppeting, using my unbreakable whip I got from my benefactor as a conductor for my chakra to travel through. Once hit by my whip, most people will loose their control over their body to me.
Second: Have the root puppets stealthfully transported into the fire daimiyo's quarters and have them attack the daimiyo. After the root puppets have subdued the rich man, they force him on his knees and started to draw things out by having one of them monologue. I managed to pull this off by using a variant of the 'soul descend' jutsu.
"For the glory and prosperity of Danzo sama. We the root of konoha here by will make sure of your disappearance and put a puppet on the throne that is loyal to Danzo sama. All hail Danzo sama!" I did my best not to laugh while hiding three streets away from the crime scene.
All this is to have enough time for the fire guardians to arrive and kill my unwilling puppets.
I made sure to have those that are about to be captured, commit "suicide" by remotely triggering their tongue seal. It would be very inconvenient if my puppet technique ran out of my chakra and those drones report back to Danzo.
In conclusion, Danzo is framed and his reputation with the fire daimiyo possibly ruined. Even if the majority of the village voted for him to become hokage, without the daimiyo's approval this would be impossible.
But all this is just a distraction in my eyes.
Now that one of the meddlesome old men is out of the village I can proceed to 'phase two'.
[Naruko PoV]
I have been waiting for this day for a few days already. Just as Toneri kun told me, I have shaken off the adults following me.
Sneakily arriving at the place I last met with him, he was already waiting for me with a basket in one hand. "I'm glad you made it here, let's go. There is a nice place not far from here." He said warmly.
Following Toneri, we arrived on a cliff side where I could see a lake in the distance. The view was nice.
We played for some time until noon. Toneri took out a large bento from his basket and we ate lunch together. After that Toneri read me "the story of the gutsy shinobi". I have trouble reading, but Toneri kun helped me understand some words. I was happy to have a friend like him.
When the sun is setting, I didn't want him to leave me. I know it's selfish of me, but he had been so nice to me. He even commed my hair, saying it's like the sun. That made my face blush and my stomach fell weird, a good kind of weird.
When he was about to go, I was reluctant.
[Toneri PoV]
Seeing naru-chan being all clingy about me, filled me with joy and bubbling giddiness. But sadly it is not the time just yet. I am not strong enough to take on the major players of this world with my current power level. Besides, I want her to fall head over heels for me.
I guess now is better than anytime to give her 'that'.
Taking out a Magatama carved out from wood that grew on the inside of the hollowed moon, I gave it to her. It had a red string tied to it, making it wearable as an amulet.
I started to explain to Naru-chan. "Naruko chan, this is a precious amulet. Even if we are far apart, this amulet will let us speak we each other in our dreams as long the moon is up in the sky."
