Chapter 2: Witty Princess
Sixteen years later
Jade stared at herself in the mirror and groaned, her maids were at it again she hated this glamorous beauty staring back at her in the mirror, although she had to admit she looked breathtaking, but this was not her style, she loved the feel of winds while she rode a horse in the woods, a bow in hand and a quiver of arrows strapped to her back, hunting was her style not glamorous dresses and festivities to attend.
Jade stared at herself in the mirror once more and scowled, damn that girl she thought
"Jade darling, can I come in?" a voice called from the doorway and Jade rolled her eyes and the familiar figure of her best friend walked in she beamed at Jade, "You look great" she said patting her on the head something Jade hated so much, Jade scowled at her, "You know how much I hate being made to dress like this" Jade said frowning but her dark haired maid just smiled.
"I know Jade, that is why I insisted you get wear this golden gown today" the maid said, a sly smile lifting the corners of her mouth. Jade stared in confusion.
"Why?" Jade asked.
"Why!" Her maid echoed "Are you serious? King Elden invited us to a feast in his kingdom."
Jade frowned but nobody mentioned anything to her not even her handmaidens, she glared at her maid, "I hate you Morganna" she groaned and playfully slapped away the hands trying to find any fault in her golden locks, Morganna grinned and walked to a chest, opened it and picked up a silver necklace and held it for Jade to see.
"No" Jade said firmly "I do not want to wear any necklace on my neck, why do you not give me my hunting clothes to wear? I prefer hunting to stupid festivities or meetings for royals to sell off their children"
"You talk as if you are not one, princess Jade." Morganna teased and Jade brown eyes darkened, she clenched her fists.
"You know how much I hate being called that" she growled and huffed, "Fine, put it on" she said and Morganna smiled triumphantly and clasped the necklace on her neck and grinned.
"Am sure this will surely make the prince turn his head" Morganna said, spinning as she studied herself in the mirror.
"What Prince?" Jade asked "So King Elden has a son?". Morganna nodded and picked up a brush.
"He is a cynical person, cold, does not talk too much and is so powerful rumored had it that he got his powers from when the angel Tariel fought the demon Sebaccan the energy he displaced from his body when he fought the demon hit Prince Lian as he was fighting in that very war, although nothing happened then, when the angel Tariel sent the demon back to hell and the victorious army returned home Prince Lian went into coma for a month and many rumored him to be dead but when he woke, he became the first and only human to possess the powers of an angel" Morganna explained.
Jade suddenly wanted to know more, "Does he have wings? Is he ugly?" She asked and stared hard at Morganna who threw back her head and laughed
"By the gods Jade, I did not know you suddenly had an interest in the prince" Morganna said amused and Jade cheeks turned a deep shade of red, "Well to answer your question" Morganna continued, "He is a very handsome specimen and yes he has wings now"
"Is that why father accepted their invitation? Because father always declines other kingdom invitations, is it because of this prince?" Jade said slowly deciphering her father schemes. Morganna nodded, impressed by Jade quick understanding.
"He wants an alliance with a kingdom so wealthy and powerful like Stravos, that is why we are attending their annual games festival today, our escort are waiting outside" Morganna elaborated. Jade shook her head in frustration and stood up and walked out with Morganna in tow, they passed the palace guards who stiffened in attention as she passed, they descended a stairway and came out to meet their escort: ten guards on horses and a carriage for her to board, Jade glared at Morganna and scowled, "I do not need this much escort" she said but Morganna only grinned.
"Tell that to your father, the king" Morganna replied and waited till the princess had settled in the carriage before following after her. As the carriage speed along the road leading to Stravos, Jade picked up one of the leather bound books she had brought and started reading about the legends when the demons roamed around the earth making humans their slaves, mankind would have to have the slave mark before they could buy or sell anything, but at last mankind got angry at being treated like rags and resisted, slowly building up an army and killing their demon taskmasters. Humans lived happily for many generations thinking they had won until Five sun cycles ago when the demon lord Sebaccan rose, free from his restraints in hell and organized an army of demons and monsters ten times the size of any army the nations of humans could muster, all hope had seemed lost at that overwhelming sight until an angel named Tariel turned the tides in the humans favor overpowering the demon king Sebaccan without a single scratch and giving humans the inspiration to battle the demons even with their smaller army and chased them off the surface of the earth. Jade closed the book and could not help but wonder if the demon lord would rise again and if the angel Tariel would come back to help them. The carriage rattled jostling the princess from her musings, she glanced out through the window and saw that the were passing through huge rocky canyons, she turned to her older friend, "Is this the great Stravos" she asked, Sarcasm evident in her voice but Morganna just smiled and shook her head
"Don't be quick to judge 'princess'" she said emphasizing on the word 'princess' to annoy her "We have not gotten there yet"
