Chapter 11: One-level magic

After Mia's special training, Carlos returned to his own room.

As soon as he closed the door, he immediately rushed to the desk, picked up paper and pen, and recorded the ideas about the magical device that had just come to his mind.

If it is really possible to create a magical device that can be used by ordinary people, then he can try to make it within these three months.

In this way, other students with poor talent in Red Leaf Academy can also carry these devices to participate in the assessment.

After all, Red Leaf Academy only has Mia as a talented student. Even if she achieves good results in the assessment, it will be difficult for Red Leaf Academy to escape from being at the bottom.

So more students must be assessed in order to improve the overall ranking of Red Leaf Academy.

If we follow the traditional approach, it is almost impossible for other students to pass the assessment. After all, talent is limited, and even if Carlos invests a lot of resources, it can only provide them with small increments.

Normally, a magic academy rarely admits students with low talent.

However, the headmaster of Red Leaf Academy, Fein, does not operate it as a magic academy. Instead, it serves as a refuge for some war orphans who have been abandoned. This includes Calros, who is also an orphan taken in by Red Leaf Academy.

Because Red Leaf Academy was originally the domain of Fein before its establishment, the higher-ups at Palos Magic School did not intervene much in Fein's actions.

As long as he ensures the normal operation of Red Leaf Academy and cultivates a certain number of talents every year, it will be sufficient.

At first, among a large number of students, there were always some with talent. However, in recent years, the number of talented students has been decreasing. Until this year, only Mia remains as the one student with potential.

And the headmaster, Fein, went missing over three months ago while on a dangerous mission and has been presumed dead by the school's administration. As a result, Red Leaf Academy is finding it difficult to operate as it did before.

But Carlos absolutely does not allow the school's top management to easily take away Red Leaf Academy, so he must ensure that all students achieve good results in the graduation assessment three months later. Even those students with low talent have to find ways to help them grow.

Fortunately, the graduation assessment at the Palos Magic School allows the use of magical props. This gives Carlos an opportunity to break through. He must research and develop a new type of magical device!

Carlos quickly sketched out some conjectures in his draft book and then deduced them from the perspectives of magical thinking and scientific thinking.

Although most students at Red Leaf Academy may not have exceptional talents, they definitely have no problem in terms of magical theory under Carlos' guidance. In addition, Carlos' teleportation beads allow him to travel between the Misty Forest and the capital city, generating funds through selling medicinal herbs.

"Perhaps I should open a smelting factory near the capital city."

Carlos stared at the notes on the desk and murmured, "Normal magical items are made using special materials, otherwise they cannot withstand the magic array."

"For example, the Elemental galleon is made of elemental stone and can only support up to a second-order magic array. Similarly, the Magic Sword is made of mist Iron and can also only support up to a second-order magic array. These two materials are relatively common."

While murmuring, Carlos took out the scroll given by Horus and continued muttering.

"Materials capable of carrying a fifth-order magic array are already rare in the world. It is said that they can only be obtained by hunting special magical beasts. For me, advanced materials are too costly and difficult to mass-produce. Therefore, I should focus on elemental stones and mist Iron, and use mechanical combinations to make these low-level materials produce corresponding effects."

After careful consideration, Carlos decided to conduct some experiments. He could apply for a portion of elemental stones and mist iron from the main campus of Palos Magic School to use for his trials.

Carlos is no stranger to magic inscription. When he was an assistant at the capital research institute, he also studied magic inscription.

But because he is not a wizard, he needs props to assist him when engraving, and can only engrave first-order magic at most. Once Carlos can successfully engrave on ordinary materials, he can try to combine many first-order magics on the same prop.

For example, Carlos can combine wind attribute magic and fire attribute magic to create a kind of firearm. The combination of fire and wind attributes can generate an instant explosive force similar to the combustion of gunpowder, propelling bullets.

Of course, the difficulty lies in how Carlos can ensure the stable operation of the magic array.

Once Carlos entered the state of research, he was completely absorbed as if he had forgotten about time. When he looked up and stretched lazily, he realized that it was already dawn.

"Wow, time flies so fast!" Carlos just figured out one problem and the night has already passed.

With a bitter smile, he knew that he didn't have time to sleep. He got up and walked to the bathroom to freshen up.

"However... I feel like I've forgotten something?"

Carlos pinched his chin, pondering for a long time but couldn't remember what he had forgotten.

"Never mind, I'll think about it later."

Putting on his clothes, he prepared to gather all the students together for training.

In the early morning, Carlos strolled along the green path of Red Leaf Academy. As he walked from the faculty dormitory towards the cafeteria, he admired the architecture of Red Leaf Academy.

The Palos Magic School has a total of twenty-one affiliated colleges, and the Red Leaf College belongs to the smallest one.

However, this branch still has supporting buildings such as teaching buildings, outdoor training grounds, indoor training facilities, student dormitories, teacher dormitories, and cafeteria.

Each building is not large in size, with the tallest teaching building being only three floors. Twenty to thirty years ago, Red Leaf Academy had over five hundred students at its peak. But now, there are only sixty-two students remaining.

As for the teaching staff, apart from the missing dean, there is only Carlos, a junior teacher. In addition, there is an old woman responsible for taking care of students' daily life.

"Good morning, Mrs. Lawrence."

Just as Carlos walked into the cafeteria, he saw a woman in her early sixties distributing bread on the plates at the dining table.

The elderly lady is slightly plump, wearing a checkered headscarf and a dark brown apron. The wrinkles on her face add a touch of kindness to her appearance. She is the wife of the former dean and has been living here all along. She is not part of the school's staff nor a mage; she is just an ordinary person.

"Good morning, Carlos," Mrs. Lawrence smiled and said, "Judging by your complexion, did you not sleep well last night?"

Carlos touched his nose and replied, "I'm fine, I'm fine..."

"Another lie," Mrs. Lawrence shook her head, distributing the last piece of bread and said, "From childhood to adulthood, whenever you tell a lie, you always touch your nose."
