Chapter 59: The 15th day of the apocalypse!

"It's a shame. If he's dead, messing with Delia wouldn't be as satisfying."

"Damn, am I getting twisted?" Eugene pondered for a moment.

Then he chuckled, "In this kind of world, who isn't twisted?"

Compared to others, he might be a bit unconventional, but not overly twisted.

Then, Eugene looked at Delia and said, "If you're ever hungry, come find me."

Delia was torn between relief and sorrow. Her protector was Devon, who had abandoned her and her son—she wasn't aware Devon was dead. Could she really rely on Eugene now?

Looking around, she noticed flashlights; apparently, some neighbors had heard the commotion and came to see. How could they still be curious at a time like this? Delia couldn't fathom their mindset.

This "battle" would firmly establish Eugene's fearsome reputation. No one would dare challenge him again.

Delia had no choice but to submit, asking, "Can I bring my son with me?"

Without hesitation, Eugene shook his head, "I can give you some food to take back, but bringing the child here? No way."

What, to let the child witness their transaction?

That would truly make Eugene a monster.

All Delia wanted was for her son to have a warm meal and eat a bit more. After being turned down, she felt it wasn't right and quickly left with her son. She had some water and supplies in her clothes and needed to get home before others targeted her.

Eugene grinned and loudly declared, "Here are some rules: First, anyone who touches a woman I'm interested in, I'll kill them! Second, confident ladies are welcome to trade with me. I can provide food and water."

With that, he turned and went back to the mansion.

He knew people were lurking in the shadows, so his words were a warning to them.

Given his current fearsome reputation, who would dare ignore his warning?

Eugene wasn't so much concerned about Cathy, Delia, and the others as he couldn't guarantee their safety. How could they come to play with him if they were constantly at risk?

He was definitely not willing to go out, primarily due to the cold and lack of safety. Even if he was invincible head-on, what about a surprise attack from behind?

Being overly cautious about safety was never wrong.

What time was it now? Were there still laws and morals?

So, he had to be careful!

After this battle, Eugene's reputation as a merciless god was solidified.

A god of death!

After the disaster, how many died at Eugene's hands?

Dozens!

Isn't he a god of death, a demon?

But how many would stop to think whether these people were killed by Eugene for no reason?

Wrong! Not only were they not killed for no reason, but they were also all intruders who threatened Eugene's home.

Is there anything wrong with protecting oneself and one's home?

Others wouldn't see it this way. They'd only see Eugene as "cruel." But Eugene didn't need others' sympathy, admiration, or love.

Fear?

Even better.

Inside a room, Claire looked grim.

If even a prominent figure like Devon couldn't beat Eugene, how could she get revenge?

Even with a vast amount of resources, could she rally others to stand against Eugene?

Who would dare?

Moreover, instead of trying to kill Eugene, wouldn't it be easier to kill her?

Now Eugene stood as a looming dark overlord!

In the past, this reputation was established when everyone was still using primitive weapons. If someone could get a gun... Well, even the most cowardly would dare to challenge Eugene.

But how to get guns?

This is not like other countries where guns are everywhere.

"Unless we can go outside, there's definitely no one at the police station now — anyone there would freeze to death. Getting a gun would then be easy."

She seriously considered this.

Actually, it's not impossible to go out. After putting on heavy protective clothing and adding a raincoat on top, one can greatly reduce the risk of exposure to toxins. Covering oneself with a tablecloth or something similar, one might be able to venture out for a short distance.

The big problem, however, is the thick fog. With such low visibility, even the signs on buildings might not be visible. So, while going out might be doable, coming back would be difficult!

It's too cold outside for simple defenses to last long. Ultimately, one might either get injured by hailstones, poisoned, or freeze to death.

In fact, a few days ago, some people went out to look for food. Did anyone come back?

Yes, only one person did, but that person realized something was wrong as soon as they left the community gate and immediately turned back. No one who left the community came back.

Claire just dismissed this tempting idea.

No one would want to join her crazy plan.

Wait a minute!

Could she cooperate with Devon?

Anyone in the community might submit to Eugene, but not Devon.

Because once Devon submits, it means he's doomed.

So, he's Eugene's mortal enemy.

It's worth a try.

But there's a problem, Devon doesn't know where to go — she doesn't know Devon is actually dead.

Claire's eyes were filled with resentment. She blamed Eugene for her broken family and the deaths of her loved ones.

"I will definitely kill you!" Claire gritted her teeth, her expression filled with resentment.

Devon is dead, Sloan has been exposed a few times, and after Eugene gave him the promised reward, he announced the end of the reward for Sloan. Just an old man, no one wants to follow him anymore. What could he possibly stir up?

Eugene couldn't be bothered with him.

On the first day, Cathy and the others arrived one after another. However, to avoid redundant confrontations, Eugene arranged for them to come at the same time, so today it's Cathy, Isabel, Juliet, and Delia, enough for a mahjong game.

With new people joining, the atmosphere was a bit awkward at first, but after getting into it, everyone felt more at ease.

Isn't it just a little awkward?

You get used to it.

Eugene was ecstatic. Both Cathy and Delia scored over 90 points. In terms of appearance and physique, they were top choices. If they were still untouched, Eugene would consider keeping them close, but now, it's just for fun.

After playing, Eugene gave the four women some food and then sent them away without any mercy.

He'd rather be alone in this desolate mansion.

Safety first.

He checked and found that the number of bodies in the garage decreased by one or two each day.

Who's stealing the bodies?

Eugene was curious, so he installed another camera focused on those bodies.

This way, he could also monitor the situation in the garage.

Actually, he wanted Freeman to install a camera during the renovation, but Freeman insisted that cameras couldn't be installed in public areas. However, after some persuasion from Eugene, Freeman finally ran a wire over.

So, for Eugene, it was simple. Just install the camera.

Done.

He didn't pay further attention and went to work out.

Today is the 13th day of the apocalypse. In two more days will be the anniversary of his death in the previous life. The closer it got to this date, the more uneasy he felt. He feared that everything happening now was just his dying hallucinations or illusions.

In reality?

He had been torn apart by Claire's family, but strong hatred and resentment made him believe in this false illusion.

So, he simply stopped thinking about it and indulged himself.

In a blink, two days passed.

The 15th day of the apocalypse!
