Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Old Edan

After introducing his two new inventions to his mother, who was still in shock, Simon wasn't really satisfied—not with his invention but rather with the work that lay ahead, wasting his time with the Star Tower, meeting the queen, introducing his inventions. As an otaku, Simon finds it like a puzzle.

In order to speed things up and escape these puzzles, he asked his mother to inform his grandfather that he wanted to speak with him. Lana didn't really understand what was going on in Simon's mind and thought it was about the Star Tower examination.

Once old Edan arrived, Simon felt a little strange; he didn't even know how to address him anymore. Old Edan sighed, as he likes to do when encountering a small problem. He understood that Simon was confused about how to discuss things with him.

Edan felt a bit guilty toward Simon; he had never come to see Simon since his birth, and it was only now, after awakening his talent, that he had come, which seemed a bit hypocritical. But after what had happened to the missing convoy, the elves were in a very difficult situation.

Some believed it was the Umbrans who were the cause, while most thought it was the humans, since the Umbrans came from a completely different continent and didn't have time to provoke the elves, being occupied with their war against the sylvidres.

But thanks to the vision that Simon had revealed, they understood that it wasn't them but rather something like a portal or even more precisely, like a spatial fissure. They were relieved to understand the reason. They knew it was almost impossible for humans and Umbrans to have someone so powerful capable of absorbing the elite convoy of the elves in one gulp. The problem now was to know in what state they were and how to bring them back if they were safe, as Simon had said.

Edan said to Simon, "You can call me grandfather. I know it's strange that I haven't come to see you, but you have to understand that it was necessary, and as an elf and as a dean, I should ensure the birth of my people."

Simon didn't seem really bothered. To put it more clearly, although his mother's love is starting to change him, it's not something that can be done in six years. It's not easy for him to feel any sort of feelings toward someone he doesn't know. For him, old Edan's status is a member of the same strange blood, nothing else, although that may change over time. "I understand, I don't blame you because it was your duty," Simon replied with an indifferent tone as if it didn't concern him.

Old Edan felt even more distressed seeing Simon's indifference because he thinks Simon holds it against him for not coming to see him. He changed the subject. "Your mother sent me a rather strange crystal; I didn't know what it was about, but she said in the letter that it was something you had invented. Being curious, I tested the result of your work, and I must say that the photographic crystal you invented is really superb."

Simon replied with a small smile, "Thank you very much, it was one of my inventions that I wanted to surprise my mother with. I want her to smile every time she sees the photo."

Edan looked into Simon's face with eyes filled with wisdom and found no hint of hypocrisy or falsehood. He was more relieved at the thought that Simon attaches importance to his mother despite his indifference because he knows that an indifferent person is literally in the top 3 of the most dangerous people. But Simon's problem here is that he seems to only attach importance to his mother. In fact, Edan has been evaluating Simon all this time; he needs to know what kind of character he has to avoid any unnecessary trouble. Old Edan replied, "One of your inventions? Do you have other inventions? I had never heard of any from the other elves."

Simon thought, 'It would be strange for them to talk about it,' but he still replied calmly and wisely beyond his age, "That was actually the reason why I asked to see you. I have created two new inventions which I think are more important and can change a lot of things for the elves. I wanted to meet you and see if it's possible for me to see the queen before going to the Star Tower. I wanted to know her intention regarding my new invention. I think it's something that can change the situation of the elves and maybe even the whole continent. I also need to talk to her about my new vision urgently."

Old Edan was a bit surprised and wondered where Simon got his confidence from. But once he heard about the Vision and also Simon saying that he must see the queen to talk to her directly, he understood that things must be really serious.
