Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Setting Up
Although Maverick felt speechless about Venom's criticism, he couldn't deny that what it said seemed to be true.
According to Venom's analysis, Maverick's mental state might indeed be unstable at the moment. If he had a real outburst, he might be the first to die, followed by Venom.
"I think you should control your emotions a bit. After all, you've only killed one Paul Mark," Venom patted Maverick's shoulder and advised him.
"Your mental instability after dealing with just one scum indicates that when we encounter those brothers later, we might be done for before we can finish them off ourselves."
"So, take my advice. Calm down, regulate your breathing, and keep your mind in the most relaxed state."
"I remember seeing something on TV before about some yoga that can help calm the mind."
"Take some time to watch and practice more. Let's set a small goal for ourselves: don't let ourselves be defeated before dealing with the enemy. How about it?"
Although Venom's advice sounded a bit unreliable, overall, there was nothing wrong with it.
Maverick thought about it and realized he should indeed pay attention to his mental state. Ever since Old York's incident, and finding out the car accident wasn't an accident, his mind had become increasingly active and unreliable.
It seemed that besides seeking revenge, he now had another pressing matter: stabilizing his mental state. He needed to protect his own life first before completing his revenge.
After discussing how to solve his mental issues with Venom, Maverick took out the items he had retrieved from Paul Mark's body and placed them on the table.
There weren't many items—just a wallet and a cellphone.
Maverick learned from Paul Mark that Harvey Hammond didn't have a fixed home, but frequented several places.
These places included several nightclubs and bars, as well as a few regular apartment buildings.
If Maverick wanted to deal with Harvey, he would need to investigate each of these places one by one.
Looking at all the potential locations, Maverick realized that monitoring them all without missing any required some technological means.
He decided to purchase some surveillance equipment and set them up at the entrances and surroundings of all these places. This way, he could accurately identify when and where Harvey would appear.
If he were to run to each place he was given to check one by one, that would be a bit too foolish and exhausting.
After planning it out, Maverick went out while it was still light outside to buy the things he needed from some electronic equipment stores.
Because he needed a large quantity, he practically visited all the shops in Manhattan to avoid drawing attention.
After bringing all the items back home, Maverick began the intensive process of manufacturing and debugging.
He needed to connect these monitors with the computer program he had previously made, to simultaneously monitor all these places and alert him the moment Harvey appeared.
By the time everything was set up, the night outside had grown quite dark.
Maverick didn't rest; he took the equipment and jumped out of the window, installing them at the predetermined locations.
When he returned home, the sky outside was already brightening up. Now everything was ready, just waiting for Harvey to appear.
Only when all these things were set up could Maverick finally rest easy.
He closed the curtains and instructed Venom to wake him up immediately if the computer signaled anything.
Venom assured him everything would be fine and urged him to go to sleep. Maverick's mental state needed a deep sleep to relieve exhaustion and relax the mind.
When Maverick woke up again, it was already noon the next day. He had slept through the entire day and morning.
Seeing Maverick awake, Venom, who had been tinkering with the computer, turned around and said, "You're awake. How did you sleep? You should be fully rested now."
Maverick nodded in response, looking at the time on the table and asking dazedly, "Why did I sleep for so long? Nothing happened during this time, right?"
Venom waved his hand and said, "It's normal. After all, your mind has been under a lot of stress lately."
"Nothing happened during this time, and the computer program didn't send any signals. It seems that guy isn't very active."
"We might not be so lucky this time. We'll have to wait a bit longer."
Maverick sighed deeply at the words, then reassured himself, "It's okay, good things come to those who wait. Anyway, as soon as he shows up, we'll rush over and kill him. I don't believe he can keep hiding forever."
"His death is already a certainty, just a matter of time. And as for his brother, the mysterious one, we might have to pry that information out of Harvey's mouth."
Although he was about to face a behemoth like the Bloodhead Gang, Maverick's heart remained calm. He only wanted to kill those people one by one, dismantling the gang bit by bit.
As his mind wandered, his stomach growled hungrily.
Although his mind had rested, his body's depletion had yet to be replenished.
"Let's have a snack first," Venom said, handing him a piece of chocolate.
Maverick popped the chocolate into his mouth and went downstairs to prepare a meal.
He gathered the ingredients he would need, with Venom helping out alongside him.
After possessing Maverick, Venom had come to appreciate how delicious human food could be.
Ordinary vegetables and meats, when cooked, could become incredibly fragrant and mouth-watering.
As Maverick and Venom busied themselves in the kitchen, the doorbell suddenly rang.
