Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Mental Crisis
As Maverick gradually recalled the situation, Venom spoke with some reproach, "You have no idea how out of control your frenzy was at that time. It even hurt me, and I couldn't influence your body at all, just like before."
"I waited for you to stabilize for quite a while, but you still intermittently affected me," Venom continued with some helplessness. "Then I took control of your body, first made sure there were no lingering issues at the scene, then wandered around for a while before returning home."
"I also had to wrap up the flesh and blood on your body to prevent leaving clues during the wanderings. The smell was truly indescribable."
"What frustrated me the most was that your mind would occasionally go into a frenzy, depriving me of control. If my reaction wasn't quick enough, you would have fallen and died. You know, I couldn't even repair your body during your mental outbursts."
Listening to Venom's complaints, Maverick also felt a bit embarrassed. So, to comfort Venom, he promised, "Sorry, sorry, I was also surprised by the situation this time. I didn't expect it to turn out like this. When I go out later, I'll buy you a box of chocolates as compensation."
Venom, who was just lamenting, immediately perked up upon hearing this. "Hey! I knew you wouldn't let me suffer in vain. Hehehe, I want the ones imported from Russia that we had last time."
"No problem!" Maverick nodded in agreement.
It must be said that Maverick was the one lagging behind in this incident, while Venom sometimes proved to be quite reliable.
"Wait a minute, did you just mention flesh and blood? What flesh and blood?" Maverick's slightly delayed reaction made him realize that something was amiss.
Some of the details Venom just mentioned suddenly gave Maverick a bad premonition.
Upon hearing Maverick's question, Venom patted his shoulder and continued, "Harvey Hammond's words triggered you, causing your mind to go out of control. Then, before you fell unconscious, you directly turned him into minced meat, and the whole living room was covered in it."
Listening to Venom's words and thinking about Harvey being blown into minced meat, Maverick's face also turned somewhat pale. Fortunately, after several occurrences, he had already gotten used to it, so he didn't have any bigger reactions.
"It's somewhat of a relief for that damn guy. His way of dying is much more satisfying than Paul Mark's," Maverick continued in a cold voice after a moment of silence. Thinking about that scum, he wished he could kill him again.
After speaking, he pondered, "But I'm still somewhat surprised. I don't understand how I lost control and ended up making him look like that."
"I remember I just wanted him to shut up, not to kill him directly. After all, he hadn't fully given his maximum value yet."
Hearing his confusion, Venom casually remarked, "There's actually nothing to dwell on about this. Your mental power isn't completely under your control right now; most of the time, it's your subconscious influencing it."
"You wanted him to shut up, so he shut up. Maybe the methods didn't match exactly what you intended, but the result was the same."
At this point, Venom became somewhat curious and probed Maverick, "Do you ever feel like you've become like this because of my influence?"
"Become like what?" Maverick asked, turning his head. He didn't quite understand Venom's meaning, wondering how his mental outbursts were related to it.
Venom thought for a moment, then spoke more straightforwardly, "I mean, feeling like your personality has become evil and distorted. Considering the methods you've used on them these few times, it does seem quite ruthless."
"I also wondered if you might think it's because of the influence of being bonded with a symbiote that you've become so cruel and ruthless."
Now Maverick understood Venom's meaning. He hadn't realized Venom was so sensitive, acting like a little girl.
"I don't think I have such thoughts. In my opinion, all of these actions stem from my inner self and my thoughts."
As Maverick spoke, he shook his head, denying Venom's statement.
"If I hadn't been in a hurry, I would've wanted to apply all the ancient tortures on them. That's the only way to match the sins they carry," Maverick said.
Venom seemed visibly happier after hearing Maverick's words. It split a piece of chocolate, giving half to Maverick, and continued, "You're quite optimistic. If it were Peter Parker, he would definitely be distressed, feeling abnormal and in need of treatment."
"Or he would blame me, thinking I made him like this. I admit I played a role in it, as my past self did amplify emotions, but the main reason is his own emotions."
Hearing Venom's banter, Maverick couldn't help but smile. Venom could probably mock Spider-Man for a lifetime; after all, it hadn't had a good time with Spider-Man and was quite fed up with him.
As Maverick listened to Venom's banter and lay back on the bed, he closed his eyes. Because of this sudden event, his original plans were now scrapped.
"Sigh, the most crucial thing now is how to continue dealing with the mysterious Jon Hammond's matter. I thought I could resolve it cleanly in one go, but it turns out there was another mistake."
As Maverick lay on the bed and reflected on his thoughts, Venom stopped bantering and looked at him seriously. "Instead of finishing off Jon Hammond to complete the final revenge, there's a more important issue now. You must first come up with a proper solution."
"That's the one I mentioned last time, and you should be able to guess it—the issue with your mental power."
Hearing Venom's words, Maverick sat up with a headache, rubbing his forehead. "I'm also thinking about how to solve this problem."
Venom continued, "Your mental power is too powerful, like an ocean. And these two instances of loss of control have made your mental power less manageable than before. If we compare this control to a dam, these two outbursts have already caused quite a few cracks."
"If one day it completely ruptures, your brain will be turned into mush by your own immense mental power."
