Chapter 8: 8 . Los Angeles 1973 [Edited]
After the blue flash appeared , Mika had his first close up glimpse of the tower and was almost shocked . Imposing . That was already in understatement to what he was seeing
Even his advanced vision failed him at this moment . He tried to see past the mystery that hid the tower but he could not .
The imposing knight from earlier approached him and Zoe and Mika could feel the intensity that they brought along with them .
The figure was sitted on a white horse and did not speak . Mika felt Zoe tense on his back but she also waited for what was to happen .
The knights hand came forward towards them and a sort of Metallic card appeared in their arms . The card itself was blank with no inscriptions and MIka took it as he looked strangely upon the knight .
" Complete the challenge of the Tower and the truth will become revealed to you . " Mika could not distinguish whether the voice was male or female and that in itself was disturbing .
He still accepted the metal card as the group of knights did not enter the Tower as Mika expected . Infact , their group galloped away from it .
They were headed away from the Tower in fact and from what Mika could see , they were approaching the wall surrounding the tower .
The wall being not that big.
Zoe looked at him , her eyes asking a question neither had answer for and started taking the lead as she walked into the Tower and he followed her silently .
Their rooms were at the complete bottom of the tower , or that was how the map icon had guided him to believe
They had received contestant cards immediately when they entered the Tower and that was why they easily found their rooms .
Mika and Zoe's room were next to each other and before Zoe could enter her room , she turned and stopped . Her head was lowered and her hands were tightly clenched .
" There is something I haven't been telling you . " Zoe finally raised her head and he saw the slight tears building in her eyes .
" But i can't tell you , not before you finish your first three random world missions . " Her voice started breaking as she broke out in tears .
This was a weird scenario for Mika . The only time he had truly felt sadness was when his mother had died and he barely felt it before it was suppressed by the emotional blockers so , he could not really understand how she felt .
But the intent she released almost paralyzed him with sadness and that's why Mika approached and hugged her gently while patting her back .
Many would wonder why he was bothering with something that was showing no benefit but, he would tell them otherwise .
He believed in long terms benefit and that is why he was dedicating this much time on this disturbed lady .
His other reason was just a gut feeling , a hunch that he needed to get this girl on his side early on before she was forever lost .
"You're not a very good liar as you think . " he said and chuckled silently while the girl finally stopped crying and looked at him in the eyes, blue meeting amber
" I knew you were hiding something , I just didn't know what . " For some reason , she looked cuter as her eyes opened widely in shock and her mouth formed an o shape , as if an animal had been caught doing something bad .
" You don't have to tell me anything you are not ready to say , just know , I'll always be waiting until you're ready to talk . "
Mika wondered why a red dusting started to appear on Zoe's cheeks . Was what he had said wrong but Zoe gave him no chance to confirm and she hugged him tighter .
" Thank you ," she said happily while rubbing her face on his exposed chest . ' Was she a pervert . '
Mika though and finally pulled back from the hug " And remember , YOU belong in MY group . Don't try running away ."
Mika said holding her cheeks as he squeezed them to a mush , finally getting Zoe to laugh . Her cheeks once again reddened as she nodded quickly and entered her room .
Mika also entered his room . It was completely white from wall to wall . Their was one piece of furniture in the room and that was the sole bed that he was now siting on .
This was the most comfy bed he had rested on , it felt like sleeping on clouds and feathers .
Mika had noticed a strange beep in the system from the moment they left the forest but had chosen to ignore it . Now seemed like a proper time to know what was happening

The system was short and simple, any one could understand the simplified information it had given .
The light green key and the night monkey material had been transferred to his storage space immediately after it unlocked .
" System , how long till I enter a random world , " Mika asked . He was curious if he had enough time to prepare before he took on his first serious mission .

That was plenty of time but the real question was how should he use that time .
Should he further investigate about the realm , by how the system had said , he could probably buy that information . Or should he dedicate his time on his approaching mission .
The answer was obvious , the mission was of more importance . And he really needed new clothes .
His door was knocked on and he moved to open it . Only one person really knew he was here .
Zoe now stood in front of him , her clothes had been changed and she was cleaner now with all the dirt and mad off her . Her smile dropped when she saw how he looked .
" Why haven't you bought new clothes , "
Her tone had changed , it was more confident . As if a burden had been lifted from her shoulders .
Without waiting for him to respond , he had been sent a parcel and his body was now clean , the dirt and grim had disappeared of his body .
Without question he also put on the new cloth and he felt brand new . The system truly had weird functions for anyone who was curious enough to look for them .
" How much did this cost . " Mika asked as he saw Zoe nodding while looking at him , as if admiring a master piece .
There was a weird light in her eyes which Mika chose to ignore " 30 achievement points " That really was cheap . With how much they had gotten , a measly 30 points was not much .
" I wanted to ask if you wanted to accompany me to the the CONTESTANT'S MARKET " Zoe now looked shy , as if all her earlier confidence disappeared .
She looked cute with how shy she was acting and he readily agreed . At least he felt she knew what she was doing and Mika wondered if that was part of her secret.
Mika readily agreed as he stepped outside and followed beside Zoe still in thought .
Did buying from other contestants have it's advantage , he at least thought so , why would anyone do so if it wasn't .
They used the teleport function and quickly arrived to a wide space with groups of people waking around and others crowding around the stalls .
The next few hours they spent strolling around the market place observing how the area operated . Mika was more interested in observing how the contestants went about their business .
Secrets that were hidden in plain sight that could be found easily for instance , this market place was a safe zone , meaning players were not allowed to attack each other .
That reasoning had it's own problem . For example , if i could not attack you , I could simply threaten you and depending on the contestants prestige , it would work .
Mika had already passed by several stalls where this event had happened . There were also high grade contestants walking around in their high grade gear some in groups while others going solo .
They all gave of different types of aura as if saying to anyone to not approach . He was quick enough to contain his inner kleptomaniac .
The hour for his departure was quickly arriving and Mika had already bought ;

He had also bought several bullets at 1 achievement points for every 4 bullet.
Was it a scum , probably but he was the one that needed the bullets so , he bought bullets worth 500 achievement points and threw all of them in his storage space .
Zoe had also bought her own things in preparation for the up coming mission .
" Zoe , I have a question. Their are some things you can't tell me , right? . But what can you tell me ? "
Mika had chosen this moment as they headed back to their rooms . He was curious were the limitations that kept her silent that rigid .
Zoe looked thoughtful. It seemed she had never questioned what was holding her back from speaking and now she did . A spark went of in her eyes and she looked excited
She turned to him as they continued to walk and Mika understood it was good that he asked the question .
" While I can't speak of a lot of things , I will explain to you on titles , skills and attributes . "
Yes , that was also usefull information and Mika prepared himself .
" Titles are the more important ones in this group . They offer you certain benefits with the requirement of achieving certain goals . In a sense , the more you have the better . As any title could be used in any situation. "
Zoe looked at him knowingly and Mika guessed she had also aquired the arsonist title he had .
" Abilities are also unique in a way . They are classified as an amalgamation of what someone has dedicated themselves to doing . A craft of sorts if your being specific . But , not everyone has an ability . Infact , it's very rare to have an ability when someone is starting of . "
She once again looked at him and Mika could only smile . Would she faint if he told her he had three . That would be interesting .
" Skills are not that hard to explain but they can easily be classified into two groups . Charged skills and autonomous skills . Charged skills require a sort of loading period before being activated . The longer the charging period of SP ,HP or MP taken ,the more powerful the skill becomes . "
Mika wonderd if his PMS. Punch could be considered a charging skill . In his reasoning, it was derived from his innate ability or were his thoughts wrong . He would test it out if he had an opportunity.
" Autonomous skills though are unique in that they require a continuous supply of either HP, SP or MP. They have achieved a certain balance with the body that they exist without depliting any of the either's reserves "
Mika could notice the happiness that Zoe had for giving him the information . It might not be every thing he wanted to know but it was enough . That information would serve it's own purpose.
They started heading back to their rooms to await being transported and arriving at the door , Zoe turned to look at him an emotion he could not identify in her eyes but it was quickly replaced by hope .
"Make sure you save at least 5000 Achievement points . Okay ? And also do your best in the first 3 worlds you visit "
Zoe said more earnestly than he had ever heard her and Mika nodded " And . . . stay alive ." she said as she finally walked into her room and the the door closed behind her .
They had already exchanged each other's information so Mika was not worries with how he would contact her .
Mika also entered the room and fell on the bed looking at the whiteness above .
" System how long till I'm transported . "

Mika closed his eyes and felt his body shift . A sudden flash went of in the room he was and he finally disappeared from the white room .

He's eyes snapped open and quickly scanned his surrounding. Mika was still disoriented from the sudden transportation but his faculty was quickly returning to him . He looked around the dirty room and felt his mysophobia kick in .
The blue screen floated in front of him quickly attracted his attention , telling him his mission objective

A distant memory from his past life came to him instantly and the mention of Sarah Connor solidified this .
Yes , it all instantly came back to him . The times before the experiments begun . A time when his mother would tell him stories and times when they would watch movies together .
Happer times that Mikael wished had never ended.
His perfect recall brought up those distant memory quickly and he felt even more shocked .
This changed everything he thought of the random worlds . If The terminator was a random world , that meant any piece of media could be a random world ; Movies , games , books and animes . The possibilities were infinite .
But , did it matter ? What did it matter if the random worlds were media from his previous world ? As long as he came out on top , as long as he was the final victor , he would surpass all of the challenges and if he wanted to be a winner , the easy choice was never an option .
