It was dawn when Haku opened his eyes, the sharp light blinding him temporarily. Haku had fallen asleep shortly after having been dragged away by Winter. Winter had put the immortal to sleep, wanting to ease his drunken state.
''You're finally awake.'' A voice spoke, making Haku look up just to be met with the sight of Winter staring at him. ''Come on, we'll have to visit Vamara,'' Winter added, turning around and beckoning for Haku to follow.
Haku yawned as he sat up, stretching his arms to climb out of bed. ''Hey, wait up!'' Haku called out, hurrying to follow Winter and not fall too far behind.
After a bit of walking, and Winter being in the lead as Haku almost had to chase after him, the two arrived in the city of greed.
On the way there, they were met with the sight of multiple people of greed fighting each other over the smallest things like bread.
Winter carefully approached the group, attempting to solve the issue while Haku stood back and waited.
''Will this ever be over?'' Haku mumbled under his breath, a slight headache aching in his mind at each word he spoke. Another immortal tapped him on his shoulder as he was distracted, making Haku flinch.
''Oh- sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.'' The immortal spoke with an apologetic look on their face. ''My name is Remi, I was wondering if I could accompany you?''
Haku looked very confused. ''Sorry, I don't think you can,'' Haku spoke with a small smile, hoping that this Remi would go away.
''I won't be long, just as long as you're stalling here.'' Remi persuaded, moving to walk around Haku but not really in a circle. Remi snaked a hand down but before he could grab any of Haku's valuables, he was met with the feeling of.. fur!?
''GAH!'' Remi yelled, taking a big step back. ''why do you have fur in your pockets!?''
''Fur?'' Haku raised his eyebrow before realizing that Remi had snooped through his pocket. ''wait- were you snooping through my pockets?'' Haku questioned, eliciting a light peep from Remi.
''What? No...'' Remi spoke, backing away with a nervous smile. ''Okay, that's it,'' Haku whispered under his breath, reaching down and grabbing a gold coin to hand it to Remi.
Remi stared, blinking a few times as he took notice of the shiny gold coin. ''Are you stupid? I was about to steal everything you-'' Remi didn't get to finish as Winter suddenly stepped up next to Haku.
Winter stared at Remi, silently grabbing the gold coin from Haku's hand, and looking at the gold coin for a while. ''You offered this to this boy here?'' Winter asked, looking at Haku who nodded while seeming pleased with himself.
Winter sighed. ''Give me a minute.'' Winter then turned to Remi and approached him. ''Were you planning to steal from my apprentice?''
''I-'' Remi got cut off by a low thud as Winter had thrown the golden coin directly at Remi's forehead. ''This coin is all you'll ever be.'' Winter declared, pointing down at the golden coin that had eventually hit the ground. ''A small meaningless object that can only be used to gain better valuables.''
Winter stared at Remi for a bit longer, until finally averting his gaze away and turning toward Haku. ''Come, we have a job to do.''
And with that, their journey continued along the way.
