Chapter 29: Chapter 29 - Long Night

"This will be pretty valuable," Zack thought.

Zack decided to increase his strength a bit to open the monsters with more ease with axes. He also didn't want to make them freeze and break for dragon too long in contact with the bodies as well.

Zack's build was starting to become pretty strength-focused, but that was fine since that worked well with many of his skills. Thanks to that, the monsters were disposed of with more ease, but he didn't make much progress since Zack just moved around the city instead of trying to head to its center.

As Zack ventured deeper into the city, he couldn't help but notice the remnants of what seemed to have been a vibrant and bustling place, now frozen in time. It appeared to have been some sort of entertainment hub filled with various attractions.

Among the frozen streets and buildings, Zack discovered remnants of parks, their once lush greenery now covered in a thick layer of frost. The playgrounds and rides stood eerily silent, their colorful structures coated in ice, frozen in a perpetual state of abandonment.

Nearby, Zack stumbled upon what looked like aquatic parks, their pools, and water slides, which were now nothing more than icy shells. The water that once flowed freely was now frozen solid, trapped in a crystalline embrace.

As he explored further, Zack came across towering buildings with multiple floors. These structures seemed to have been centers of commerce or entertainment, each floor offering a different experience. On the top levels, Zack found rows of frost-covered electronics, their screens and displays dimmed by the cold.

"It doesn't seem like they showed much interest in anything around him… things just froze naturally," Zack thought. "Even now, we still don't get much about the monsters. They form the wormholes and then stay in the same area for years and years until they have enough numbers to attack the cities around."

Perhaps he would find those answers himself, or perhaps the answers had already been found, and some people were just hiding them; either way, it didn't matter. Sooner or later, the truth would be revealed.

When night came, Zack decided to take a break since he had reached level forty-six, which was some decent progress. Besides, the night was getting colder and colder. Even with two layers of fur around his body, Zack could only take so much, so he hid inside one of the buildings to spend the night.

As night fell over the frozen city, Zack found himself enveloped in an eerie silence broken only by the occasional howl of the wind. But as he listened closely, he began to hear something else: strange, otherworldly voices drifting through the air.

Intrigued, Zack followed the sound, his footsteps crunching softly on the icy ground. As he approached, the voices grew louder, taking on an ominous quality that sent shivers down his spine.

Peering around a corner, Zack spotted a group of frozen witches gathered in a circle, their icy forms illuminated by a faint, ghostly light. They were whimpering and moaning, their voices intertwining in a haunting melody that echoed through the silent streets.

It was a strange and unsettling sight, the frozen witches swaying gently as if caught in a trance. The sound they produced was unlike anything Zack had ever heard before. This haunting, otherworldly song seemed to tug at something deep within him.

"This night will be very long," Zack thought.

In the end, Zack's guess was quite wrong. Once he took out the bottle of hot chocolate from his inventory and drank some, he soon felt relaxed, and soon enough, he got sleepy enough to fall asleep. When he woke up, morning had already arrived.

"There have been no signs of hunters so far. Maybe this place is too far away for them," Zack thought. Well, that means I can stay here for as long as I want without being bothered."

While moving around the city, Zack slowly approached its center, too. Thanks to that, he fought more, and finally, the beasts began to find him before he could silence them. Still, when they fired ice beams from the palm of their hands, Zack just countered them for a moment with Fire Lance.

"I have to improve my strategy since my mana won't last long like this," Zack thought. "The axes are breaking faster now, so I need a new trick."

In the end, Zack had a new idea that seemed a bit boring, but it would be very effective. He looked for the tallest place that he could find, one that had a good view of the area. After that, he gathered and stored a bunch of massive blocks of concrete. After that, he moved to the border of the tallest building, and when he found the targets, he pushed the blocks away from the border. By using Auto Aim at the same time, the blocks of concrete fell in a diagonal path toward the monsters and crushed them…
