Chapter 11: Chapter 11: When The World Needed Him Most Part 2

After taking what can only be described as the worst bath of all time, Kel quickly got dressed. His outfit included a water tribe tunic and boots accessorized with white fur trim at the collar and cuffs.

After dressing, he walked over to the workbench and picked up his boomerang before tucking it at his side. "As ready as I'll ever be I guess," he thought to himself before stepping out.

No one was around in the village, so he began looking for Katara. As he did this, he noticed the rather slow pace with which the village functioned at this time.

Most of the children weren't playing; instead, they huddled in groups being taught by an older woman. Some were being taught from old-looking scrolls, while others were being told stories.

As Kel moved around and took in the sights, he encountered Gran Gran as she was making her way somewhere. She turned his way. "Sokka, you haven't left yet? Go quickly!" she quickly replied.

"I'm looking for Katara," Kel responded, hoping not to draw suspicion his way. Thankfully, Gran Gran didn't seem to find it a strange answer in the least as she turned to point at a medium-sized igloo not far in the distance.

"She should be in her igloo," Gran Gran said as she began to walk away, adding, "Be safe out there, and make sure you're back by sunset. If you don't manage to catch anything, that's fine; we still have some penguin meat in storage."

"Alright, Gran Gran," Kel replied with as few words as possible, not wanting to prolong the conversation. However, this goodbye was what caused Gran Gran to look back at him with a brow raised in curiosity.

Kel, however, had already turned to leave, and Gran Gran simply continued on her way.

Upon arriving near the igloo Gran Gran had pointed out, Kel wondered to himself, 'To knock or not to knock? That is the real question.'

'Katara has already shown she is the type to throw things at you when she's upset, but then again, she nearly doused me with hot water. So, hey, why not?' Kel concluded before stepping into the igloo without announcing his presence, calling out to Katara only when he entered.

"Hey Katara, are you ready to go-?" he paused and showed a wide grin at the sight he had found. For whatever reason, Katara was adjusting her outfit, particularly the lower area.

What made this sight even better was the fact that Kel had walked in just as she had bent over to pick up the trousers of her outfit, giving an almost clear view of her backside. The moment Kel walked in and spoke, Katara had heard him, and so the scene lasted only a moment as Katara quickly jerked upward in embarrassment and anger as she yelled, "Sokka, don't you know how to knock? Get out!"

Wasting no time on witty remarks, Kel simply stepped out, answering back only when outside, "I thought you were ready to go. What are you still doing changing?"

"Shut up, it's none of your business!" Katara yelled back before adding, "Don't you know to knock before stepping into a woman's igloo? What if I was undressed?"

'Oh, believe me, I'm already wondering,' Kel thought, though on the surface, he instead replied, "I'd close my eyes, duh."

"*Ugh* You're impossible. Just wait for me there and don't you dare come in," she threatened.

Kel replied back, "Don't worry, I don't need to see your thunder thighs a second time."

"What?!" Katara yelled out so loudly that even those who were outside in the distance looked that way.

'Oh, trigger found.' Kel thought, before stepping a bit further away from Katara's igloo, however, her threat still continued, "When I get my hands on you, Sokka, you're going to regret it."

'Why so violent?' Kel wondered but didn't really run away. Instead, he waited by another nearby igloo until Katara came out, her eyes scanning for Sokka.

Upon seeing him, she stared daggers; however, he pretended like nothing had happened as he asked her, "Well, are you ready to go get those sea prunes?"

Saying nothing, Katara began walking over with her fists clenched.

"Hey, Katara, now come on," Kel raised his hands as if to surrender. This prompted Katara to stop just a few feet away from Sokka.

Kel pretended to look at her awkwardly, and prompted her to frown. "Now, what are you looking at me like that for?"

Kel put on the most genuine face he could muster, showing Katara a wholesome smile. "Nothing, Katara, just noticed that my little sis is turning into a beautiful woman," as Kel said this, Katara crossed her arms and asked, "Are you making fun of me again?"

'I think she wants a reason to be angry with me. Not today, I choose peace,' Kel thought before shaking his head at the accusation, pretending to be the one getting upset. "I tell you something nice and you accuse me of saying something else. Can't you learn to take a compliment, Katara, even though you never give them yourself?"

Kel pretended to be slightly hurt by the accusation, which prompted Katara to keep frowning at him for a moment before her expression relaxed.

"Fine, thank you, Sokka, are you happy?" she asked. However, Kel continued to pretend to sulk, even going as far as to cross his arms and lean against the igloo with his back turned away from her. This caused her to place her hands on her hips and tilt her head as she asked, "Really, Sokka?"

Kel gave no reaction, and eventually, Katara laughed alongside, "Fine, thank you for the compliment, Sokka, and I guess you're growing into an okay looking maaaan as well."

"Why did you say 'man' like that?" Kel asked, and Katara shrugged, laughing instead. "You got your sorry now let's go already, we've wasted enough time."

Kel just felt relief that he had pulled off a perfect brother-sister conversation. However, as Katara led the way, he watched her do so while rubbing his hands in an ominous way. 'Don't blame me, Katara. To save my ass, I'll have to take yours.'
