Chapter 152: Chapter 152: The Assassin Cat, Aisala

Chapter 152: The Assassin Cat, Aisala

It must be said, the quality of these pets is indeed very good.

Hastur had only observed the third one when he already felt a bit tempted.

It was a white kitten, pure as driven snow, without a single speck of any other color. Its eyes were a deep emerald green, like watery gemstones, and it had long, luxurious fur on its back, an adorable face, and its behavior was very graceful.

However, there was one thing that Hastur wasn't quite satisfied with; this Persian cat seemed a bit lazy. It just coiled up in the corner of the cage, its eyes half-closed, completely indifferent to the outside world.

After watching for a while, it even seemed to have a bit of the shadow of Folsom, the air of a salted fish.

Hastur thought to himself that the cat he raised needed to be more diligent. If it was too lazy, then he would be far too busy himself.

That white fur also didn't seem suitable for going out to gather information. If it got dirty with mud, cleaning it would definitely be a troublesome matter.

Hastur passed over the white kitten and continued observing the other cats.

After looking at two or three more, he saw a very plump orange cat. It was just lying there quietly, its not-so-bright eyes staring at Hastur, slightly lifting its chin as if to say, "I am the noble one, and you are but a pauper."

Tsk, if he really raised this little thing, it might be even lazier than Folsom.

Hastur continued to pass over them, picking and choosing until he finally saw a kitten that he was quite satisfied with.

It was a small black cat, with fur as dark and glossy as silk. With a slight shake of its body, it rippled like a piece of black satin. Its eyes were not the common amber but a deep blue.

The size was also to his liking, about the size of two palms.

After observing for a while, it seemed to be the smart and elegant type.

It didn't look as lazy as the previous two, just a bit shy.

Hastur noted down this little black cat and continued to observe the others.

After looking at all of them, he still felt that the little black cat was the best choice, so he had someone open the cage and he held the little black cat in his palm.

Fluffy and light, perhaps because of its shyness, it curled into a small ball, occasionally sticking out its tiny pink tongue to lick Hastur's finger placed under its chin.

"Really nice."

Hastur was very satisfied with this little thing, holding it in his palm, he walked towards Grelint, who was selecting hunting dogs.

"Hastur, have you made your choice?"

"Mm, what do you think?"

Hastur held out the little black cat to Grelint. Before Grelint could take a closer look, the little black cat meowed and curled into a small black ball.

Grelint watched for a while and laughed, "Quite smart, and the spirit is not bad, it's a good cat."

"Then it's decided."

About half an hour later, Grelint also chose a fine hunting dog and a golden retriever.

Hastur thought to himself that Grelint probably considered the golden retriever a substitute for Susie.

After the selection, it was time to pay. Grelint negotiated the price while Hastur just watched silently.

In the end, they only charged 500 gold pounds, with the hunting dog accounting for 400 gold pounds, the golden retriever for 100 gold pounds, and the little black cat was given for free, saying it was because Hastur was a new friend they made today.

If it weren't for the fact that the hunting dog was still young and hadn't undergone strict training, the price would have been several times higher.

According to Baron Buer, the hunting dog had a good pedigree. As long as a trainer was found to train it specifically, it could be worth at least two or three thousand gold pounds.

This batch of pets was black market goods, so the price was naturally low. Plus, having a good relationship with Grelint, 400 gold pounds was already very cheap.

Hastur had no objections to this. Compared to the hunting dogs purchased by Earl Holber, this was already a bargain.

Back at his own home, Hastur had the butler Neil hire a maid specifically to take care of the little black cat.

He did have the intention to take care of it himself, but he was afraid that he might not do well in some aspects, such as what food to feed and what to avoid on a daily basis.

There was too much related knowledge to master.

There were many vacant rooms on the second floor, so Hastur prepared a pet room next door as a dwelling for the little black cat.

Hastur gently stroked the little black cat's head with his right hand and murmured, "It's time to give you a name."

"If it were up to my usual habits, I would definitely name you something like Little Black Charcoal or Little Black Ball."

"Meow?"

The little black cat raised its head, seemingly not fond of that name.

"Don't worry, I will give you a more elegant name. That would be fitting for your future extraordinary status and also convenient for your travels outside."

"What exactly to name you, I haven't thought of yet… Maybe I can consider letting you have a 'grabbing week' to decide your own future."

Hastur's eyes lit up; the 'grabbing week' was indeed a good solution to his indecision.

He had been pondering which extraordinary path to let this little black cat take. There were several paths that fit well, making it difficult for him to choose.

If he let the little black cat make its own choice, in the future, it wouldn't blame its master for deciding its extraordinary path.

"You were born unable to decide for yourself, but now I'm giving you a chance to determine your own fate. You must grasp it well."

Hastur lightly flicked the little black cat's head.

"Meow?"

The little black cat rolled over, exposing its soft belly, its deep blue eyes not understanding such overly complicated words.

The next day.

Butler Neil hired a maid specifically to take care of the little black cat.

Hastur also came out of the study and went to the little black cat's nest, picked up the little black cat, and asked the maid and others to leave first.

After everyone left, he closed the door, placed the little black cat in the center of the floor.

Then, around it, according to different directions, he laid out six pieces of paper, each written with the starting sequence of an extraordinary path.

The Sleepless, The Spectator, The Thief, The Monster, The Assassin, The Hunter.

These were the extraordinary paths that Hastur had carefully selected as suitable for a cat.

The Sleepless belonged to the Night Path, which was very compatible with the little black cat, both in terms of role-playing and future prospects.

The Spectator, this path did not require direct combat, very suitable for the cat's nature of observing its surroundings, and in the future, it could be sent out to gather intelligence.

The Thief, cats stealing food, or casually bringing something back from outside, a true old offender.

Hastur had thought about whether to take an apprentice, after all, the later extraordinary abilities were very comfortable, but then he thought better of it, as it would be quite difficult for a cat to play the role of an apprentice.

The Monster belonged to the Fate Path. If the little black cat really chose this Fate Path, as long as it was lucky enough, its future would be smooth sailing.

This was also the extraordinary path that Hastur was most optimistic about. After all, the fact that the little black cat was chosen by him was already a kind of luck.

Plus, with Becland's Mercury Serpent covering it, he wouldn't need to worry about potion formulas in the future.

The last two, The Assassin and The Hunter, both extraordinary paths were very suitable for the little black cat, and the key was that it could change its nature in the future.

Raising a catwoman by his side, the thought alone was interesting.

After everything was prepared, Hastur gently tapped the little black cat's head and said with a smile, "Choose, this choice will determine your own future."

"Meow?"

The little black cat lay on the floor, looked around, then raised its head to look at Hastur, meowed softly, seemingly asking Hastur to make the choice for it.

"That won't do, you have to choose for yourself."

Hastur moved a little further away, squatted down, and waited for the little black cat to make its own choice.

To prevent his presence from affecting the little black cat, there were no papers laid out on the path leading to him.

Even if the little black cat chose to go towards him, it wouldn't have any effect.

Hastur would pick it up and place it back in the center, letting it continue to choose.

If it chose to run towards him three times in a row, Hastur would choose the Fate Path for it.

This was the extraordinary path he was most optimistic about. If it happened three times in a row, it was also fate making the choice for it.

The little black cat stayed in the center, motionless, just lying on the floor, looking at Hastur from afar, occasionally letting out a puzzled meow.

Fortunately, the little black cat gave Hastur face and didn't just lie down and sleep on the floor.

After a while, it got up, wobbled towards Hastur, came to his feet, rubbed against him, lifted its little head, and let out a meow.

The little black cat lay on the floor, looking around, and then raised its head to gaze at Hastur. It let out a soft meow, seemingly asking Hastur to make the choice for it.

"That won't do," Hastur said. "You have to choose for yourself."

Hastur moved a little further away, squatted down, and waited for the little black cat to make its own decision.

To avoid his presence influencing the cat's choice, he didn't place any papers on the path leading to him. Even if the little black cat chose to come toward him, it wouldn't have any effect.

Hastur would pick it up and place it back in the center, allowing it to continue its selection process.

If it ran toward him three times in a row, Hastur would choose the Fate Path for it. This was the extraordinary path he was most optimistic about. If it happened three times consecutively, it would be fate making the choice for the cat.

The little black cat remained in the center, motionless, lying on the floor. It looked at Hastur from afar, occasionally letting out a puzzled meow.

Fortunately, the little black cat gave Hastur face and didn't just lie down and sleep on the floor.

After a while, it got up, wobbled toward Hastur, and came to his feet. It rubbed against him, lifted its little head, and let out another meow.

"You've already wasted one chance," Hastur said, gently picking up the little black cat and placing it back in the center.

The cat lay on the floor, its tail swaying slightly. It remained still for a long time.

Hastur patiently waited. The wind blew in from the window, causing one of the paper strips to flutter in the air. The little black cat glanced at it and then leaped up, swatting the paper out of the air.

"Quite interesting," Hastur murmured, rising and walking over to the little black cat. He unfolded the paper.

The Assassin Path.

"This is your own choice," Hastur said. "In the future, don't blame me."

"Meow?"

The little black cat lay in Hastur's palm, its eyes wide, seemingly curious about the unfolding events.

Hastur gazed into its deep blue eyes and smiled. "From now on, your name shall be Aisala."
