Chapter 6: Waiting For You

"Thank you for having me!" Turak shouted, swinging his hands in the air as the crowd continued to cheer him on.

Nomali smiled as she watched her sister, seeing the excitement in her eyes. Even though this was not her life, she could tell how much Kambiri wanted this freedom. Unfortunately, they had to sneak out so that no one would see them.

"Have you heard Turak's voice?" Kambiri said through the harsh noise.

"What?" Nomali yelled, raising her voice to hear her sister clearly.

Kambiri repeated what she said, this time raising her voice. "I said, have you heard Turak sing?"

Nomali shook her head. She hadn't, despite the constant hype given to him.

"You will fall in love with him if you hear him sing," Kambiri screamed, causing Nomali to cover her ears. 'Seriously, this noise was killing her.'

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. It would pass; all of this would pass, and she could go home to her bed and live in her quiet world.

"Are you ready for me?" Turak shouted and the crowd screamed, "Yes! Sing, Turak, sing!"

Turak moved to the center of the stage with his hand raised. Bell flowers appeared behind him, just like Nomali had seen before they entered the party, and the beat began.

The crowd fell silent, anticipating the moment they had been waiting for. It was time for them to fall in love with Turak once again. As Kambiri had said, his voice had a way of captivating hearts.

The beat started with a series of claps, followed by a rhythmic pattern, and then a crescendo that filled the air. Turak began to sing,

"Waiting, hmm, I've been waiting for you. Where have you been, hmm, 'cause I've been waiting, my love, my love."

The crowd joined in, singing along with him,

"You are like the stars, shining above, like the wind that caresses my soul. Like the stars, you shine above and like the wind, you caress my soul.Hmm, hmm, yeah, you caress my soul."

Everyone sang along as Turak continued, and even Nomali found herself clapping and blending in with the crowd. While she struggled with the lyrics, it was easy to get lost in the music.

On the other hand, Kambiri knew every word of the song and sang along vigorously, then jumping and screaming with joy when Turak finished singing.

"Woo, yes, that's it Turak, that's it!" a woman yelled behind Nomali, causing her to jump and turn to face her. However, the woman's gaze was fixed on the stage, chanting, "Yes, yes, go Turak."

The crowd suddenly fell silent as Turak began singing a different song, this time slow and calm, his voice captivating everyone's attention as if under a spell.

After Turak finished his mesmerizing performance, a deafening silence enveloped the crowd, turning even the slightest sound into a noisy disturbance.

Mr. Crab then returned to the stage and announced, "Now, my newest, freshest recipe has arrived!"

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.

"This is called the dahila cake," he declared, as two female mermaids brought out an enormous cake resembling blue jelly. "It is made from sea dahilas, delicious and truly one of a kind."

"I need a bite!" someone from the crowd exclaimed with excitement.

Mr. Crab responded, "Of course, each and every one of you will get a taste. But first, let me tell you about this sweet dahila cake."

He proceeded to explain the cake before instructing for it to be distributed. "Enjoy it, savor it all, and thank you once again for joining my party."

"Oh no," Kambiri exclaimed, holding her hand over her mouth as she gazed up at the mighty sea shell towering above them. The mouth of the sea shell was beginning to close, indicating that it was time for all the princesses to go to bed. "We have to go; Mother must not know we've been away."

Nomali stared longingly at the dahila cake that had yet to reach them. "But we should have a bite," she said, her mouth watering at the sight of it. How could they come all this way and not even taste it?

"We can always go to his shop to try it," Kambiri suggested, grabbing Nomali's hand and pulling her away.

"But, but, it's free!!!!!" Nomali protested, looking back at the cake as Kambiri dragged her along.

Kambiri didn't listen to Nomali; her heart raced as she dragged her baby sister. They had to reach the castle before the queen discovered their absence, or it would lead to punishment.

The music faded behind them. It was indeed a pity that they couldn't see Turak perform again, or worse, they couldn't get him to notice them.

"You know, I really wanted Turak to notice you," Kambiri said with a smile as she ruffled Nomali's hair, now styled in a loose ponytail.

Nomali shook her head. "What? Turak? No way," she said, wrinkling her face. Was Kambiri referring to herself?

Kambiri smiled. "Turak is amazing. Did you hear him sing? His voice is out of this world."

Nomali smiled. Indeed, he had an angelic voice that was truly impressive. But that didn't mean she had feelings for him, nor was she dreaming to.

Her main dream had been shattered by the rules in their world. Sigh! But wasn't it just the surface? She was only going to gaze at the sky, right? Why was that a crime, she wondered, and why was no one allowed to go there?

"Princess Kambiri, Princess Nomali," they heard their names from behind.

As they turned, they were greeted by a male and female merfolk, both twins known for being mischievous, extroverted, and cunning. These two happened to be Kambiri's best friends.

The twins, Marie and Murvy, with their tanned skin and deep black eyes. Maria, with her long brown hair, and Murvy, with his short brown hair, wore the most cheerful grins as they spotted the princesses and swam towards their direction.

Nomali smiled and waved at them, having not seen the twins for so long. However, Kambiri kept her eyes fixed on the gigantic tower shell that was about to enter its home. Soon, their mother would discover that they had sneaked out.

They must leave.
