Chapter 40: Carline Appears!

Indeed, as they guessed, Eva is not human—she's a zombie! However, having reached Tier 5, Eva's appearance is indistinguishable from humans, even more adorable and sweet than when she was still human. It's no wonder they couldn't tell.

So, the two men, realizing they faced an inexplicable foe, nodded at each other as if to bolster their courage.

Then, with a loud shout filled with the fervor of a desperate last stand and a vast resolve, they turned and ran.

They... ran?

What kind of tactic was this? Everyone was stunned.

But had they asked the little girl if they could run?

Eva saw them running and quickly followed with her short legs.

"Holy crap, she's fast too!"

The two burly men looked back to see Eva rapidly closing the distance, their souls nearly flying out of their bodies.

"She caught up so quickly!"

"She's like a ghost!"

"Holy crap!"

...

"I can't let them all die! How would I explain this to my brother?" Samuel pondered for a moment in the sky, then made up his mind and tightened his grip on his spear, diving down from above.

He wasn't planning to go all the way to the ground, of course. In this era, having a pair of wings that could fly meant he never had to face death head-on—as long as he didn't act foolishly. After all, not many could fly.

Samuel flew directly above Eva, maintaining a distance of about twenty meters.

In his view, twenty meters was a safe distance, considering Maxwell's jump had only reached just over ten meters, and Eva, certainly, couldn't reach his height.

Eva indeed couldn't jump twenty meters. She simply looked up at Samuel quietly, calculated the distance in her mind, and after realizing she couldn't reach him, she ignored him and focused on chasing the two burly men ahead.

In the sky, Samuel waved his spear, throwing small clumps of lightning at Eva in an attempt to disrupt her pursuit of the two men, but Eva easily dodged them all.

Even so, Eva's speed was slightly reduced, giving the two fleeing men a brief moment to catch their breath.

But before they could even out their breathing, they saw Maxwell choosing a shortcut to get ahead of them.

"Damn it! Does he have to be so fierce? Forget him for now, turn quickly!"

The two men hurriedly changed direction.

"Dare to block their way!"

Frustrated, Samuel, knowing it was futile, still launched a bolt of lightning at Maxwell.

Then he saw Maxwell's lips curl into a mocking smile.

That smile sent a chill through Samuel's heart.

"Something's not right here!"

In a panic, Samuel flapped his wings to try and gain more height.

Just then, a fiery red beam of light shot from below, striking directly at his wing.

"Damn it!"

Pain shot through Samuel as one of his wings became a bloody mess, making it hard to flap. Unable to maintain his balance, he plummeted from the sky.

That fiery red beam.

It came from Carline.

Carline had made her move.

...

"Does he have more tricks up his sleeve?"

The people from Supreme Hall were shocked once again.

Then they saw Carline, who had now made her appearance.

Although Eva looked delicate and adorable, she was just a little girl.

But Carline was different. Appearing as a teenage girl, she had transformed into an even more bewitching and captivating figure after becoming a mutated zombie. Now a Tier 5 zombie, she was far more beautiful than before.

Her expressionless face gave her a cool and detached aura, adding to her allure with an air of aloofness that made her seem untouchable—a saintly figure best admired from afar.

This only served to captivate the students from Supreme Hall even more.

Aubrey was quick to recover, tugging at the others beside him, understanding that such a woman was beyond their reach and it was impolite to stare so openly. Perhaps she was even closely related to the formidable individuals they had encountered.

On the other hand, the female students didn't harbor such reservations, yet they felt somewhat inferior.

Because Carline was simply too stunning, like the moon in the sky, whereas they felt like mere fireflies on the ground.

...

On the ground, Samuel fell.

He tried desperately to flap his wings again, but it was futile.

Resigned, Samuel folded his wings and looked up to see Carline standing before him.

"There really are such women in the world!"

Even though Samuel knew Carline was his enemy and could guess that the injury on his wing was likely her doing, he couldn't help being deeply attracted to her, and he was quite certain he wanted Carline to be his.

However, this was merely a fool's dream.

Carline's face remained impassive, and her staff in her left hand began to glow with a red light again. She slightly raised her right hand, fingers fluttering, and instantly shot out one flaming blade after another.

The battle commenced.

Her thorn staff acted like an energy supplier, merely to charge the light blades in her right hand, allowing them to form rapidly before being thrown.

Samuel, with his lightning abilities, was quick, using the electricity to enhance his speed. He deftly dodged Carline's flaming blades, but they kept coming at him relentlessly and in increasing density, making his situation exceedingly difficult.

"How can there be so much energy?!" Samuel wondered aloud.

Typically, abilities need time to accumulate energy; the longer the energy is stored, the more powerful the attack when unleashed.

Like when he dove from the sky towards Maxwell, using up the electrical energy he had accumulated over time, though it hadn't even ruffled Maxwell's hair.

Samuel's mind raced with thoughts.

But Carline didn't care what he thought. She kept hurling fire blades at him, making Samuel look like a circus monkey, hilariously hopping and dodging.

Finally, Samuel found an opportunity and struck back fiercely at Carline.

"No matter how pretty you are, do you think you can just attack me without consequences? Don't blame me for being ruthless!"
