Chapter 15: Chapter 14: Rivals
"Haha! You have a great sense of humor, Lee! Anyway! I know some were short, and some didn't say anything, but that's okay! I'm not offended."
Might Guy laughed out loud and clapped his hands loudly to calm the situation.
Lee's "funny" joke made things pretty tense, which makes sense when you think about it...
"If Lee was serious, then... There's nothing terrible or unusual in his thinking. Shinobi cannot afford to be generous because they don't last long on missions. They always die from a knife in the back when they spare their enemies..."
"We, the shinobi of Konoha, are simply obligated to fight fiercely for our lives and the peace of our loved ones whom we hold dear and love with all our hearts!"
Guy pondered to the point of sadness but didn't frown too much to hide his true thoughts.
Next, Guy gazed over Rock Lee in his light green kimono adorned with floating dragons, clearly new and recently custom-made.
Lee crafted an image of a person who was entirely changeable depending on the situation.
Guy was very interested to see him in a serious fight or sparring. He believed he was the perfect candidate to fully adopt his Taijutsu style.
Neji Hyuga in a loose, light-brown shirt and sturdy trousers.
He was confident in his skills but also reserved and cold because his clan was so powerful and controlling.
Guy was so fair and kind-hearted that even he couldn't imagine him smiling and happy for no reason, but he certainly would like him and Lee to eventually become friends.
Lastly, Tenten stood out with a pink jacket with no sleeves and loose pants because she wanted to become a Bukijutsu, and Guy might not know much about that.
Overall, Guy believed that her determination was an obvious balance in their group, and she definitely wouldn't drag too far behind the two boys.
In general, this was the perfect team for him and that's why he was thrilled and mentally thanked the Hokage for helping him.
Moreover...
Guy was once walking by the training ground one day and saw a boy unconscious on the ground next to a broken log.
It turned out that the boy was from a pretty renowned Lee family.
That's when Might Guy first met Rock Lee. However, Lee didn't know about it.
What's even funnier is that he accidentally ran into him later that same day while doing his business.
Guy decided to teach him who seemed to have no experience at all and had just started on the path of Taijutsu how to properly and without mistakes strike at the air...
Funny?
'That's fate!'
That's what Guy ultimately believed.
"I'll be honest with you, I like you, and you have great potential, kids! But! Does this really mean you're ready for missions where you have to work for the good of Konoha?"
"Listen, I will test your fighting skills against me tomorrow at nine in the morning on the fifth training ground. It's better to start planning everything in advance, so good luck and!.. Bye!"
After his warning words, Guy formed a seal and disappeared into the green leaves and wind, thus leaving the three of them alone.
"Home?"
Lee asked while stepping out of the gazebo on the roof and exchanging glances with Neji and Tenten.
"Well... I guess I am, and you?"
Tenten asked who wanted to spend more time with Lee but didn't want to impose.
"I want to visit Naruto and come with me. Otherwise, he'll be disappointed and upset if you don't come."
Lee suggested with a warm smile.
"Oh! I agree!"
Tenten exclaimed immediately without hesitation and spent a little time with them.
"And you, Neji?"
Rock turned to Neji who had turned his back and still exuded an aura of alienation.
However, Lee's question made him pause.
"Seriously? Are we friends? Who said that? While I may be an ally on your team, but... Do you want to become a Taijutsu master, Lee? Come on. You won't succeed, and you, Tenten. Your dream is pure nonsense!"
"Tsunade, pfft? You come from a lower clan lineage than she does! She's a Senju! What's the point? I know that genes determine everything as a Hyuga clan member, and I don't want to hang out with you weaklings!"
Neji responded coldly while clenching his fists and teeth and furrowing his thin brows.
"Oh my, you're so rude and grumpy, haha..."
Lee mocked and then got into a fighting stance and continued with a firm voice empty of his usual playfulness.
"Do you want to fight? Why argue when we can settle it by fighting each other and seeing whose right?"
The air felt heavy at such an invitation to fight as if a huge weight was about to fall on fragile shoulders, breaking them and crushing them into a bloody pulp.
Meanwhile, Neji wore a mask of indifference and coldness when he sensed Lee's growing strength.
He was surprised that he could not be as carefree as he used to be because he knew something was wrong with Lee.
That is something that would likely cause Hyuga to lose...
However...
Neji isn't a coward and not at all.
Neji took the first step toward Lee while standing in the Gentle Fist style which blocks chakra flow and paralyzes the body until...
"Stop, hey! What are you guys doing?! You can't do this, guys!"
Unfortunately, it was too late.
It was foolish to think that the Tenten wouldn't intervene in their almost erupting and unbecoming fight between Genin.
Lee quickly understood this and didn't say anything. He just smirked at himself and put a gentle hand on Tenten's shoulder.
Tenten was out of breath and stood between them with her arms spread wide.
Nevertheless, it wasn't often that she had to deal with her new group, arguing so loudly and intensely that it was almost like they would fight.
Tenten was actually glad that Lee basically stood up for himself and her.
"Next time."
Rock casually dropped his words while looking fearlessly straight into Neji's piercing Byakugan.
However, Neji didn't say anything further.
Neji pushed off and jumped off the roof to kick off a nearby tree in the air while falling to the ground.
He was so arrogant in his ability to walk on surfaces other than the ground that even Lee couldn't master it yet because he didn't have good chakra control.
Rock and Tenten were left alone on the roof...
