Chapter 21: Chapter 20: Rats

The three twelve-year-old Genin were in a great mood, and the clear weather matched it perfectly.

They were taking a break on a single tree casting cool shade and bright green grass.

The recent sparring session with Guy had turned the once-colorful and lively training ground into a disaster zone.

Nevertheless, Rock, Tenten, and Neji couldn't be happier about defending their pride and almost defeating their team leader.

After spending a lot of energy even the usually grumpy Neji calmly and quietly settled on the grass beside his team.

He didn't mutter loudly about his usual sermon and nonsense about the fate of losers and winners.

He simply sat there in peace.

However, Tenten's feminine heart was slightly saddened by the confusion and chaos around them and her concern about nature and how much she had suffered today.

Therefore, Tenten, Lee, and Neji naturally asked their shared sensei how to act in such a situation and whether it was necessary to damage the surrounding environment like barbarians and savages.

Might Guy simply and straightforwardly replied with a broad smile on his face.

"Leave it to the Chunin, Tenten! They have nature Ninjutsu, and they'll take care of it!"

That's it.

It turned out that the ANBU rebuilt the training grounds in Konoha every week. It was a strange job that required a lot of chakra and paid well.

Overall, Might Guy told them that Chunin-ranked shinobi had a few useful duties, and the job choices were more limited.

The Chunin shinobi are nothing but failures who die from nothing but enemy kunai, and that's an obvious fact.

That's why Guy also wished his students to move up from Genin to Jonin as soon as possible so they wouldn't end up in stupid situations like a fly caught in a spider's web.

"We need to train more! No, not just more; we need to train as much as humanly possible!"

Might Guy firmly said while striking his fist against his open palm above his lying charges on the team to take on the role of leader.

"Because of the Power of Youth?"

Lee inquired while raising his thick eyebrow and supporting himself on his elbows.

"Not only that! Do you know what people truly die from? Boredom! You can't be lazy and can't rest idly just like you can't be bored! I want to make you the strongest Genin for future Chunin exams!"

Guy yelled triumphantly and inspiringly, even though he spat saliva out of his mouth. He did it with such elegance that it was hard to scold him.

Furthermore, they respected him.

After all, Guy had shown great skill in that sparring match which made Tenten and Neji see the possibility of a truly strong Jonin.

This is not something Neji usually sees in his clan, and Tenten was born into the family of a talented but average blacksmith who wasn't involved in Shinobi development.

Lee would have gone home alone to practice the same Kami-e or the Impulse, but Might Guy called them to celebrate their advancement to Genin rank and suggested they go to a café to eat.

This was different from what he had been saying recently about training and getting ready.

They were told that this would raise their fighting spirit to a higher level and improve their team connection, with which Rock had to agree.

He fought side by side with Tenten and Neji only once, and it couldn't be said they got too close.

Unlike the stubborn Neji, Lee understood perfectly well that teamwork would be much easier on missions or when killing a capable enemy.

The fight with Might Guy had only proven that.

Therefore, Rock didn't refuse, and Tenten followed suit, but the one who initially resisted was Neji Hyuga.

However, he heard Guy's response.

"This is an order!"

He had to go with them to the café whether he liked it or not.

Luckily, Guy stopped Neji from complaining and grumbling because he knew he couldn't argue with him because of his higher rank.

This is how the Hyuga clan has run for generations because there are main families and different branch families.

It's cruel, and it's not surprising that Neji grew up so stern and cold, not believing in human friendship.

In the end, Guy took them to a place he often frequents after missions and is well acquainted with the owner.

It was a warmly decorated small building on the corner of the street with a sign showing light noodles and wooden chopsticks.

According to Guy's words, there are also other delicious dishes served there.

After entering, they spotted a bearded old man in a white chef's uniform who was aggressively waving a rolling pin and making bizarre martial sounds.

"Ahem, ahem."

The old man was startled when Might Guy coughed and drew attention to himself.

He flinched and cursed, but when he saw the familiar figure in the green jumpsuit talking to him, he calmed down.

"Phew, Guy. You're a bit early. Who did you bring with you? Well, never mind. There's no time for orders today, I'm in trouble, Guy!"

The old man kept looking around and forcing the others to be curious about what happened.

However, the team didn't have time to ask questions and seek explanations.

An actual rat jumped out of the kitchen. It wasn't a normal rat; it was huge, about a meter long, and so thin that they could see its bones.

Naturally, the appearance of such a creature alarmed the old man, and not only him but also...

Tenten.

"Ugh! Ugh!"

Tenten swiftly tossed a shuriken into the air and aimed it directly at the rat to kill it.

However, the rat squealed in response and immediately hid under the table while wagging its tail to avoid the dangerous shuriken.

Tenten's eye twitched in anger at this outcome because she had hoped to kill the rat all at once, but it didn't work out that way.

It dodged and did so in a way that clearly mocked her.

"Typical skills of a clanless girl."

Neji couldn't help but comment with a smirk on his pale face. Tenten blushed with anger and embarrassment.

"Guy, help us come on! Kill this rat quickly! It ate all the food in my kitchen! The nerve!"

The old man complained.

He pointed accusingly at the massive rat under the table with a piece of bread in its teeth, gnawed on it, and flashed its red eyes.

"Guy-sensei? Shall we finish it off?"

Rock asked while also pulling out a kunai and taking a step forward.

"Wait."

Guy spoke quietly while putting his hand on Lee's shoulder.

This made Lee stop and go up just in time to see two little rat snouts peeking out from the kitchen and then running towards their mother, the huge, skinny rat.

"Hmm, I see."

Rock nodded thoughtfully when realizing that the large rat was just a mother who had decided to check in to find food for herself and her offspring.

Upon this realization, Rock suddenly felt sorry for the rat, purely from a human standpoint, but...

Apparently, only he and Guy felt that way.

"There are more of them."

Neji's voice sent a shiver down everyone's spine, and he was about to throw shurikens in their direction, but Lee swiftly kicked his hand with his foot, clearly not appreciating such actions from him...

Once again, the tense atmosphere thickened in the unfriendly environment due to the rats.
