Chapter 6: Learning the mechanics

"Hmmm, Creation!"

"No- that's not it."

"Creation!" I sat in my room, tinkering with the system more and more, creating objects almost out of thin air! It seems they do the whole creating process for me, but I have to have the materials, there's also more than one way to make the same thing according to the system.

I sat on the ground, surrounded by many different items, though I burned through some of the master's resources in the process I'm sure he won't mind. An awkward smile appeared on my face as my head slumped into my shoulders.

"Like heck, he won't—"

The screen popped up once more in front of me, this time saying something else entirely.

[Encyclopedia unlocked!]

Brush up on your knowledge of this world!

Oh yeah, the crafting system only works if I know what I'm doing, and the process in itself, that way the system can make substitutes for ingredients I don't have. Dang! Whoever made this is a freaking genius!

A faint blush appeared on my cheek from the pure excitement from it all, looking up at the system once more and swiping to the side, the semi-transparent screen showing me all that I've learned from the past year.

[Progress! Progress!]

Out of 200500 known discoveries about alchemy, you've learned 500!!

"I guess that's something…" I sighed softly, my gaze darting through what I'd learned during my twelve years of studying. There are some things covered in black, only being revealed once I reread them, my mind now fresh on the topic.

"I see– so does the same effect go for when I don't remember?" I mumbled.

"I guess my memory doesn't save into the system, this won't be easy-"

I sighed and picked up a small ball with fireweed powder inside. "Normally the process of making one of these stems from one hour to two hours, depending on how moist the stem is but…"

"I did it in an instant-" I smiled as I looked up to it, my eyes sparkling in excitement.

"This is amazing! Truly! This gives me a huge advantage in alchemy. If I ever forget to prepare something I can always just make it on the spot, so cool!"

I got up from the ground my hand balled up into fists and my face filled with pride. "I'm practically unstoppable already!" I stopped for a moment, looking down at the items that spread all across the floor.

"Wait… can I also–" The screen popped up beside me once more, and with a few swipes and clicks, the whole room emitted a bright blue light before revealing all the items back to mere ingredients.

"So cool!!" So apparently recycling is also possible with this thing, if any experiments fail I have a literal reset button! That's so cool!

As I looked through the system I heard the door to our room click, instinctively, I swiped up, causing the ingredients in the room to disappear in blue light. Once the door was opened fully I saw Master Qifrey, now back with supplies.

"What–" I uttered seeing me standing in the middle of the room, looking at him like a deer in headlights. "—What were you doing?"

I tilt my head to the side, putting on my best innocent look, "Whatever do you mean, master?"

"Useless!" A man shouted, his words laced with venom as someone was sent flying to a wall of a hidden building. He had somewhat long brown hair, and emerald green eyes, wearing a rouge's uniform with the sigil of a phoenix made with black flame.

His hair was disheveled, miserable strands falling down his eyes, his breathing was heavy, his face, battered and bruised. Footsteps approached his miserable figure.

He looked up to see a man with blonde hair, his face was striking yet his eyes were white and soft.

"What do you have to say for yourself," He inquired, his voice filled with grit and anger.

"Vagnis."

Vagnis's head hung to the floor, his eyes narrowed in fatigue.

"I apologize for my incompetence, commander, I should've finished it quickly, but yet–"

"—But yet?" the commander interrupted. Eager to hear his answer.

Vagnis's hands dug against the concrete floor, his breath hitched as he continued his plea.

"But yet I decided to take my time, and the young girl's master showed up, and they got away with the pseudodrache tail." Just hearing it angered the commander, his hand quickly reaching the grasp at the head of his loyal soldier, his pawn, his plaything.

He pulled him to his feet, Vagnis's breath got caught in his throat from the sudden pain, quickly tumbling over as the commander let go mid-pull, his face planted into the concrete floor behind the commander.

"I– apologize, sir, please! We can find another pseudodrache tail—" Vagnis pleaded and pleaded, but his words fell on deaf ears.

"Enough!" The commander turned to him, the look in his eyes filled with rage and resentment.

"Do you know, how rare those things are!?" His voice roared throughout the building, the man looking up in fear, as he towered over him.

"We have a week, that's it, after that the deal will be off and our heads will be searched for, throughout the lands!!" He took a moment to calm down, his hands reaching for his hair, rubbing it lightly. "I'm done here, get out there and fix this before I kill you."

Vagnis rose to his feet, bowing to the commander and taking his leave.

Dawn had turned to dusk, and the sun had gone to rest, the moon now raising its head to bless the lands in its stead. There to greet it, a young girl sat on a wooden rooftop, gazing, eagerly awaiting its arrival.

She had gray hair that shone with the adornment of light, and crystal blue eyes that mimic the sky in the fresh youth of new morn, fresh from rain. Her clothing, was much to be desired, wearing the gloves of a commoner, and the dress of a peasant. Though despite her wear, there was no doubt in anyone's mind when they met her.

She's beautiful.

"Hey! Abigale!" An old man called out to her from the bottom of the building, his beard was an ugly gray, bushy, and filled with crust, and his eyebrows covered his gaze. His clothing too was mediocre, as expected from a man of his class. Filled with holes or stains.

The young girl looked down at the old man, and though she showed no emotion, it was clear that she was confused by her beckoning, the man continuing to call for her.

"Get down here for a sec will ya?!" He smiled, shouting even louder so the girl could hear him, gently stroking his crusty beard. The moon slowly rose, Abigale quickly shifted her gaze to the moon as it peaked above the horizon.

"Oh, you always did love the moon, did you?" He murmured to himself, his hands turned into fists, teeth gritted softly. "I'm glad,"

"I did something right."

Abigale sat there, basking in the moon as the stars slowly started to show, drawing attention, but never enough, the moon still outshined them as dim as it may be, it was beautiful, as weak as it was, relying on the sun, it was still wanted, still cherished.

Abigale smiled softly, the old man looking up at her with a soft smile of his own. "I suppose I'll leave you to that then." He said, scratching the back of his head as he made his way off.
