Mephistopheles was picking at his salad with a spoon. It was already the fourth week of his stay at the school. No, the prince supposed the magic here was so bad, but to be this bad? Mages couldn't do anything without wands, and Mephistopheles had never seen any demonstration of really serious magic. Just mediocrities.

The prince was a little amused by the distribution ceremony. He had to think of a way to trust a reasonable, emotion-absorbing artefact to get close to the children.

- Harry Potter," McGonagall announced loudly. He stepped out and crookedly put the artefact on. Before the hat could touch his head, it shouted across the room - SLIZERIN!

Ha, the faces of the teachers. Dumbledore was surprised, Snape was furious, McGonagall was clearly bewildered, and the whole room was somewhat dishevelled. But soon everyone seemed to wake up and continued on with dinner.

After dinner they were led to the dungeons. Snape, aka the dean of their faculty, pushed a pathos speech about the cohesion of the faculty, about responsibility, but Mephistopheles did not listen. Finally, they were taken to their rooms. The prince's roommate turned out to be Malfoy and a boy named Theodore. The boys got to know each other. It turned out that Draco and Theo had known each other for a long time, and then Mephistopheles remembered the local traditions of aristocrats, the sacred 28 (why not 30 like before?) and other things.

Then came the studies. It was hell. In the sense that it was boring as hell.

- Hey Draco, why don't you hire a normal teacher instead of a ghost? - Mephistopheles wondered.

- The Headmaster doesn't want to spend any money," Malfoy mumbled, distracted from his conversation with Pansy, "but fine, we're fine.

- Don't tell me, history has its fair share of interesting moments.

Mephistopheles felt something in DADA class. Some kind of strange mental touch. It was at least strange, because even the headmaster could not influence him directly, the level is not the same. But here it was as if a steel nail had been hammered into his brain. The problem required an immediate solution, so Mephistopheles sent a pair of shadows to watch the professor. A simple trick, not even in the top 10 abilities, but extremely useful. The tracking did nothing. Mephistopheles was angry and his displeasure was spreading to his roommates and classmates. Oh, and then there was that Ron Weasley guy who had started pestering him again.

- Harry, why are you so angry? - Malfoy muttered angrily when the prince sent him away when he suggested a walk to the lake.

- Never mind, Draco, I just don't understand something... Tell me, what do you think of Quirrell?

- He's weird, maybe he's really afraid of vampires, so he's paranoid.

- No, Draco, you don't understand. Do you really think a vampire, a really dangerous creature, can be scared off by the smell of garlic? And his movements. It reminds me of hunters, smooth movements, ready to attack you at any moment. Plus I think the professor is faking it with his stuttering, I've caught him doing it a couple of times.

- You've been following the professor? So that's where you've been disappearing to! - Malfoy exclaimed, amazed at this discovery. He hadn't realised that the shadows were responsible for the surveillance, and Potter himself was entrenched in the dungeons, looking for the entrance to the minotaur's labyrinth that stretched beneath the castle dungeons.

- I don't like him, he's weird," Mephistopheles muttered, stretching out in his chair.

- 'By the way, Harry, would you like to go to the third floor? See what the Headmaster was talking about? - Parkinson asked, wondering why she had come into their room.

- 'Great idea, Pansy,' Mephistopheles blubbered and headed for the exit, 'well, who's with me? - His voice took on a cheerful note. Of all his character traits, Mephistopheles was constantly being challenged by only two: Curiosity and stubbornness. In this case, the former.

- But Harry, what if it really is dangerous out there? - Theodore muttered uncertainly, "Maybe we shouldn't.

- Suit yourself. Pansy, baby, are you with me? - clarified the Prince.

- Let's go.

Malfoy caught up with them on the way out of the dungeons.

- I'm with you," he said, breathing heavily, and the trio headed towards the third floor. Mephistopheles felt the excitement. It had been a long time since he had truly missed an adventure. The labyrinth could wait, what if there really was something interesting here? The children approached the door leading to the 3rd floor corridor.

- Alohomora," Pansy waved her wand, opening the door. Beyond the door was a dark corridor going off into the distance. The trio walked forward and found another door, this time protected by a deadbolt.

- Stay back," Mephistopheles commanded, and with a single swing of his chains, kicked the door open.

- Wow, what kind of magic is that? - Draco wondered, but the Prince only smiled slyly, shaking his head. Draco remained silent. He was used to his friend's oddities, he would ask about magic later, right now his thoughts were on the dog that was staring right at them. A three-headed fucking dog. Cerberus. A fifth-class creature, almost invulnerable to magic and mechanical damage, with keen eyesight, the ability to absorb shadows, and strengthened by the fear of the living.

Mephistopheles tensed. He wasn't sure the dog wouldn't hurt him, it looked like he'd have to resort to trump cards.

- Hello, doggie, who are you guarding? - Potter mentally addressed the creature.

However, there was no response. It wasn't surprising, as cithers were loyal only to their masters, but it was worth a try.

- Pansy, Draco, back away from the door slowly," Mephistopheles whispered, unconsciously condensing the magic around him. Malfoy, who had turned grey with fear, along with the girl, pivoted towards the door and as soon as they popped out of the threshold, the dog lunged at them. The 3 heads hit the closed door at the same time, seemingly shaking the lock to its foundations. The boys were breathing heavily as they stood at the door and while Malfoy and Parkinson were scared shitless, Potter looked as happy as could be.

- Harry, why are you so happy, we almost got eaten, didn't we? - Pansy shrieked indignantly.

- Wasn't it your idea to come here, hmm? - Mephistopheles grinned, "It's fun!

- I was only joking, I didn't realise you were so reckless! - It was strange to hear such turns of speech from a pureblood.

After a while, the trio made it to the bedroom, miraculously avoiding meeting Filch. The boys reached their room, plopping down tiredly on the bed.

- Draco, don't tell me you didn't notice anything.

- I saw the trapdoor, if that's what you mean, but I don't want to go in there again! - Malfoy whispered fearfully.

- 'Alright, don't worry princess, I'll go myself later,' the voice grew quieter and soon Mephistopheles snorted. Draco shook his head and went to bed as well.
