Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Codename: Noir

Whether it was the original persona known as the Noir Spider-Man, or the Peter currently passively receiving everything while inhabiting his body, both found it hard to believe all of this.

So, Peter went to the Daily Bugle, wanting to confront Jonah in person to get some clarity.

However, in the office, he saw the body of the murdered "Jonah"!

The scene of him appearing in the office with a gun in his hand was also "conveniently" witnessed by the police officers present!

After escaping the pursuit of the police, Peter went to the morgue at the police station and discovered some suspicions regarding the body.

When he returned to the small room where he stored his files, attempting to find clues from the documents left by Urich, another Peter inhabited his body!

Peter opened his eyes and blinked, realizing the pain in his mind had completely disappeared.

The fusion of memory fragments left him temporarily unable to distinguish whether he was Peter as the Noir Spider-Man or the Peter who had just entered high school.

Or perhaps, was he both?

However, this did confirm one thing for him: in this world, no, in some world, there existed someone just like him!

Someone who had also been bitten by a spider and gained extraordinary abilities!

Only, compared to this Spider-Man codenamed Noir, his own life was much happier.

Although he too had never seen his parents since childhood, he had a very loving Aunt May!

"Can I go back?" Peter thought, trying to communicate with the strange spider web in his mind.

Soon, he confirmed that he could indeed return!

All he had to do was actively disconnect that glowing thread from the bright spot, and his consciousness would leave this world and return to his own world!

However, with this realization, Peter was no longer in a hurry to go back.

He wanted to see other worlds, other Spider-Men, and other adventures!

Peter shifted his gaze to the photographs in front of him.

These were detailed profiles of members of the Green Goblin's gang:

[Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven the Hunter, occupation: animal trainer, nationality: Russian]

[Adrian Toomes, also known as the Vulture, the Wildman, nationality: unknown.]

[Dmitri Smerdyakov, also known as the Chameleon, nationality: Russian, half-brother of Kraven the Hunter, ability to perfectly impersonate anyone's appearance!]

"It's no wonder the core members of the Green Goblin's gang recruited from circuses and freak shows have some strange abilities." After merging with the Noir Spider-Man's abilities, Peter found that his logical reasoning skills had greatly improved.

"The dead Jonah is a fake, so the real one must have been captured by the Green Goblin!"

"Why would they capture Jonah?"

"Urich!"

"Because before he died, he wanted to expose the Green Goblin's gang through Jonah, but the Green Goblin found out about it! The Daily Bugle must have a mole working for the Green Goblin there! Subsequently, the Green Goblin sent someone to capture Jonah and had the Chameleon impersonate him. However, he was shot and killed!"

"Who pulled the trigger?"

"It must have been Felicia Hardy!"

"She said she witnessed Jameson killing Urich, so she took the evidence Urich had collected during the chaos. And since she had a relationship with Urich, it's understandable for her to take revenge."

"But there are too many coincidences in this world. The one who killed Urich was the Chameleon impersonating Jameson, and they didn't anticipate Felicia being so decisive, leading to the Chameleon's death."

"But this also means Felicia is definitely in danger because if they captured the Jonah contacted by Urich, they certainly won't spare the more closely related Felicia!"

"Wait, no, there's one more person who is also their target!"

"That's me, Peter Parker!"

"Because before Urich's incident, I was his best photography partner, and I also had a conflict with the Green Goblin at Felicia's bar!"

"They will definitely come looking for me at home... Oh no, Aunt May!"

Peter abruptly stood up.

Although this Aunt May wasn't his Aunt May, after merging with a portion of the Noir Spider-Man's memory fragments, he still felt a strong familial affection for her.

Thinking that Aunt May might be in danger because of him, he couldn't sit still any longer.

The Parker residence.

Knock, knock, knock.

Aunt May stood in front of the room, knocking on the door.

"Peter, are you home?"

After waiting for a moment with no response from inside, Aunt May pushed open the door and walked in.

She thought she had heard some noise coming from this room and intended to check it out.

Whoosh—

A gust of wind blew in her face.

Aunt May noticed that the room's window was open.

She breathed a sigh of relief and chided with some exasperation, "This kid, how many times have I told him, if he goes out, he should properly close the window. Really."

Saying this, she walked towards the window.

After taking just a couple of steps, a massive dark shadow suddenly pounced from behind.

Aunt May sensed the movement and instinctively turned around, "Peter?"

"It's Toomes!" That dark shadow knocked Aunt May to the ground, grinning ominously.

Only then did Aunt May realize this was someone she didn't recognize at all.

He was wearing a large black robe, with a completely bald head and a mouth full of sharp fangs, not looking like a normal human.

Even more terrifying were his eyes, fierce and horrifying. When he looked at her, it wasn't like looking at a person, but more like looking at food?

The Vulture examined Aunt May's body with disdain and hissed, "Ssss—just a bag of old bones, your husband's meat was more plentiful... and more delicious—ssss."

A chill ran down Aunt May's spine as she suddenly widened her eyes, finding it hard to believe the words coming from this person's mouth.

Her husband's meat... more delicious?

What... did that mean?

A terrible thought entered her mind.

Could it be that Ben wasn't torn apart by wild dogs but was instead...

"Let her go, Toomes!" A figure dressed in a black cloak appeared in the doorway, breaking the tense atmosphere in the room.

The Vulture, with one hand gripping Aunt May, turned his head, "Spider-Spider-Spider-Man, you can move with that strange web of yours, can't you? But how fast can you move, Spider-Spider-Spider-Man? Fast enough to stop me from ripping-ripping-ripping her throat?"

"No..." For a moment, Peter felt weak, after all, he was just a teenager.

But then, the part belonging to the Noir Spider-Man took over.

Somewhat out of his control, he reached into the pocket of his black coat and pulled out a revolver, pointing it at the Vulture's head.

"I can!"

Bang!

With a decisive sound, a gunshot rang out.

The revolver automatically rotated once, and thanks to Spider-Man's formidable physical prowess, the recoil was almost negligible. The bullet hit the Vulture's forehead with extreme precision, penetrating straight into his brain.

The immense kinetic energy instantly turned the Vulture's brain into a pulp, causing him to immediately collapse!

INFO ABOUT NOIR/SHADOW SPIDER MAN

UNIVERSE: Earth-90214

Era: During the Great Depression(1929-1939)

NOW SHORT SUMMARY OF SPIDER NOIR:

Unlike other characters from Marvel's Noir line, Spider-Man Noir has become a fan favorite. Popularized by his appearances in video games like Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, as well as Nicolas Cage's portrayal in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the character has grown beyond his initial conception. However, some fans might not know that the character's origin is filled with tragedy, possibly even more so than his 616 counterpart.

This version of the character made his debut in Spider-Man: Noir #1 (by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky and Carmine Giandomenico) as part of Marvel's Noir universe, which takes place during the Great Depression. The Noir line was meant to provide readers with a grounded, hard-boiled take on iconic characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine.

The story is set in a grim New York during the 1930s and follows Daily Bugle photographer Ben Urich as he attends a protest, led by May Parker. May is harassed and tied up by a gang of thugs who work for Norman Osborn, who in this universe, is known as The Goblin. During this assault, Urich takes a picture of the scene and uses it to blackmail Osborn. Following this event, Urich befriends a young and vengeful Peter Parker, who tells him that his uncle was killed by the Goblin during World War I. Concerned by the rage-filled Peter, Urich employs him in hopes of keeping him out of trouble.

After a few months of working together, Peter opens up to Urich about the death of his uncle. In this universe, rather than being shot, Uncle Ben was found eaten alive and completely mutilated by what the police told Peter was a dog. However, it is soon revealed that Uncle Ben's death was far more terrifying than that, he was cannibalized by the Vulture. What makes the whole situation even more disturbing is the fact that Peter's new friend was also present that night and just simply watched the murder unfold.

One fateful night, Peter mistakenly receives a tip about Osborn's criminal activity that was meant for Urich, whom the caller referred to as "The Spider". Peter goes to the location and finds a group of the Goblin's men holding the spider idol, which breaks open, and released a host of spiders. He is bitten by one of the spiders and his journey as Spider-Man begins.

Donning a mask, Peter rushes to the Goblin's lair and is shocked to find Urich there. He learns that Urich has been protecting the Goblin from the press in exchange for drugs. Peter lashes out and abandons him for shielding the monsters who he claimed he would bring down. Peter returns home where he creates a costume, donning the mantle of Spider-Man. Ultimately, Peter's purity and passion to do what's right inspired Urich to expose the Goblin to the public. Unfortunately, he was murdered before he had the chance to correct his mistakes.

Following Urich's death, the Goblin seeks to clean house, wiping all evidence of his wrongdoings. He tried killing everyone who was affiliated with Urich, including Peter. Osborn sends the Vulture to his house, where he comes across Aunt May. Luckily, Spider-Man arrives just in time, shooting the Vulture and saving his aunt. However, he does not get a positive response, Aunt May criticizes him for shooting an unarmed man, telling him that he was no better than the other villains who roam the streets. This had a huge impact on Peter, when he finally confronted Osborn and gained an opportunity to kill him, he remembers his aunt's words and spared him.

This story was met with critical success, so much so that a sequel was released the same year. Throughout the years, the character has evolved significantly. Following his death in the multiverse crossover Spider-Geddon, Spider-Man Noir was revived in his own universe, now taking on a similar dialect and appearance to his animated counterpart. The character has a renewed stance on life after being given a second chance. This gave the audience a rarely seen version of Spider-Man, one who actually grew and learned from his losses in life. Overall, Spider-Man Noir's story is one of redemption and overcoming life's many tragedies.
