Chapter 10: A Boon Or A Curse?

[Name: Ian Crown]

[Rank: ...]

[Talents: Curse of True Immortality (Myth), Records of Yggdrasil (Legendary)]

[Cooldown: 5 days, 21 hours, 8 minutes remaining]

Finally...

No more searching for talents, no more pain because of talent merge, no more stress to upgrade talents... for now.

Nearly two days ago, Ian received this system, out of which he was unconscious for most of the time or searching through the whole city for talents.

But the results were worth it...

The mythical and legendary-grade talents, which are said to be the highest and haven't been recorded by mankind yet publicly, are now possessed by Ian.

Looking at the status, a wide smile emerged on Ian's face as he finally breathed out a sigh of relief, closing his eyes before opening them and checking out his new talents.

Curse of True Immortality

Grade: Myth

Effects:

1. Immortality: The ability to never die from natural causes or age.

2. Soul Invulnerability: Resistance to soul-based harms, making the user's soul indestructible.

3. Absolute Regeneration: Rapid healing of wounds and injuries instantly, allowing for quick recovery.

4. Resurrection: The power to come back to life after being killed or incapacitated.

5. Curse Resistance: The mythical-grade curse's power is too strong, making it impossible for any other curse to be placed on the user's body.

6. Eternal Youth: Maintaining a youthful appearance despite the passage of time.

7. Immunity to Disease: Resistance to illnesses and infections, due to the body's eternal state.

8. Limit Break: Making it possible for the user to break his limit and use the energy previously not permissible for conversion to mana.

9. Self-Sustenance: They do not need food, water, or air to survive.

*Note: if the host doesn't possess enough mana to support the state, the host will be out into a state of coma until the required amounts of mana is provided.

God Damn! That's overpowered... So I am now completely immortal? Fuck Yes!

Not to confuse with the eastern fantasy's definition of immortals where one needs to cultivate for god knows how long before dropping their mortal body and ascending to the realm of immortality, gaining supernatural strength but no true immortality.

The talent doesn't make Ian super strong or something; he is still a normal human in physical aspects but with super regenerative capabilities and other abilities making him immortal in a sense of lifespan and being unkillable physically or metaphysically, by any means.

But I wonder why is it called a curse?

This ability is nothing less than a boon to anyone, as almost everyone desires for immortality. But why does it say "curse"?

Is it like for being lonely or something? Anyways, that's not something to discuss now...

Breaking out of his train of thoughts, Ian looked at the kitchen knife with which he had last time cut his palm.

Should I just cut my finger a bit?

Ian thought to himself as he once again tried to test out his talent's capabilities... last time he did something crazy and cut his palm, which was a painful experience, so Ian should avoid doing that one more time, shouldn't he?

With that thought, he shakily held the knife to his finger and closed his eyes, preparing for the pain.

"Ugh!"

With a swift motion, he created a deep cut on his finger, which caused a light groan to escape Ian's mouth. The familiar feeling of mana churning in his chest once again appeared, followed by the feeling of mana moving down towards his wound, healing it almost instantly.

Ian opened his eyes and looked at his wound, which began to close up instantly, and within a matter of seconds, it was completely healed, leaving no scar behind, as if it was never cut.

So fast! And the mana required for healing was also so much less compared to before.

As mentioned before, the higher the talent, the less mana it consumes for performing the same task compared to its lower-grade variants. This is due to higher talents governing more concepts within themselves and being more complex and systematic.

The flow of mana in my body also appeared to be more refined and smooth compared to before.

As Ian noted the difference, he clenched his fists and looked at his system screen once again to check out his next talent.

Records of Yggdrasil

Grade: Legendary

1. World Map Projection: Ability to project an accurate and real-time map of the world, including live-time locations of objects, people, and landmarks.

2. Universal Search: Capability to search for any object, location, or concept within the world, whether it's a physical treasure or a metaphysical concept even with a vague description, as long as the user is present in that world.

3. Live Feed Viewing: Skill to access live feeds from any location in the world, allowing the user to observe events or occurrences in real-time.

4. Location Tracking: Capacity to track the movements and whereabouts of specific individuals or objects within the world.

Four abilities, just four abilities instead of nine like Ian's previous talent... Is it because of the lower grade or because of how great these abilities are? Ian wondered.

Many would question the effect of the talent and its use, saying it was a waste to use the upgrade card on this talent, but Ian, who is the most familiar with his innate talent, knows very well how incredible this upgrade really is.

Excitement once again rushed through Ian's body as he called out his talent, which soon answered in his mind, showing the map of his entire neighborhood, outside of it, along with every possible biotic and abiotic component in them...

With just the mana he passively used to search near ten meters of his vicinity, which now projects a much better and more detailed map with a diameter of half a kilometer.

Ian's talent before wasn't considered much, given it's not combat-oriented, but still was in high regard considering that he can find anything in his vicinity with just a command, keep an eye on his surroundings like a perfect scout, and can also spy on people given they are under his range... it might not be combat-related, but with its various applications, it can be said to be a valuable talent compared to a lot of combat-oriented abilities in the current world.

With a short range too, it was a talent Ian greatly cherished, but now with the upgrade, he can't wait to try it out...

Seriously, I have thousands of ways to put this now into good use...

As it was a talent Ian had studied greatly, Ian had a lot of ideas related to it but was never able to put it into use because of low range, insufficient mana, or skill grade being too low.

But now, with a range that can be extended to kilometers, Ian wants, and the search feature, which can help him pinpoint the location of anything he wishes to find, even with a vague description, the ideas that once Ian thought were practically impossible seem possible to try out.

To give a rough idea of how overpowered this ability can be, just imagine using maps on your phone, but this application can't only show you the locations of stores and localities in the whole world, but also about the not discovered treasures, lands containing unearthed gold mines, oil wells, while also granting you the ability to spy on others and know the location of your enemies... now do you understand how OP this ability can be?

If it can really be used that way then for the first use let's...

"Search for all winning lotteries with cash prizes near me"

As soon as Ian ordered, the map's range widened to the extent of a few kilometers before red dots began to appear slowly, marking the locations.
