Chapter 37: Aftermath Of The Battle
[ Stussy POV ]
Ulvehoved
I sat on the couch that was placed on the helm of the ship while reading a book. We had docked a couple of hours ago, and the crew was currently gathering supplies for the ship. I was quite surprised when I woke up to find Boris gone. It was only then that a crew member, a young man by the name of Franklin, informed me of Boris' orders before he left. It appears that the Big Mom pirates wished to cause problems to us again. Although I really wanted to help Boris, I knew the real reason as to why he had sent us to UIvehoved: Back up.
Big Mom was known by many titles: a schemer was one of them. Boris probably predicted that while Big Mom was battling him, she would send other forces to this island and destroy it. Even if she didn't, Boris couldn't take the risk. I had contacted Pops as soon as I heard the news, Whitebeard said that he wouldn't be able to get there in time because he was currently in a squabble with the marines. It turns out that a Vice-Admiral had laid an ambush for him, I couldn't tell whether the World Government and Marines were stupid, or it was just the Vice-Admiral. There was way too much going on in the World for them to simply pick a fight with the likes of Whitebeard.
Anyway, the main point was WhiteBeard wasn't going to make it in time to stop her. Leaving only Boris to fight her off, I could see the sky darken in the distance. I couldn't sense anything within my Observation haki's range, I could only hope that Boris would come back to me alive. I told the crew to patrol the island's shores and inform me if they could see any ships in the distance. I had them working in the same shift groups that they were in while we were sailing. We remained on high alert till the next day.
A crew member rushed into the ship while breathing heavily, he reported that he could see two horribly damaged ships in the distance. I quickly got up from the couch and rushed to the spot he claimed that he had seen the ships were coming from. When we got there, sure enough, two ships were getting closer and closer to the island. Behind them, I could see smoke coming up from the horizon. As the ships got closer, I managed to see their Jolly Roger. It was the WhiteBeard Pirates, I quickly used moonwalk and started flying towards the two ships.
As I got closer, I used Observation haki to detect Boris' presence. It was faint, but I could still feel him on the left ship of the two. I increased my pace and soared towards him, I landed on the deck of the ship. The pirates of the ship raised their weapons as they heard me land on their ship. The pirates looked horrible, they had visible injuries littered all over their bodies along with tattered bodies. Recognizing me, they slowly began to lower their arms while letting out sighs of relief. A young man, who wore a purple shirt with the Whitebeard symbol tattooed on his torso slowly walked up to me. Marco greeted me before escorting me to where Boris was, no conversations were needed. They were just tired, opening the door; I found Boris lying in bed sleeping peacefully.
No visible injuries seemed to be on him, I sighed in relief as I traced my hand over his sleeping cheek. His skin was warm and unblemished, I slowly turned and asked Marco what happened on that island. He said that he would call Jozu so I could get the full story, I could only grab a wooden chair from the corner of the room and place it near Boris' bedside. Soon Jozu came and narrated the events from the very beginning when he had asked Boris for help.
Marineford
A man could be seen racing towards the higherup's building offices. He held a piece of paper in his grasp as he continued to race and get inside the building. He had to walk within the office to avoid disturbing the other higher-ups, and quickly paced towards the Fleet-Admiral's office. He knocked on the door promptly before coming in. He halted, saluted and gave off a rather alarming piece of information.
"Fleet-Admiral Kong! The Big Mom Pirates and The WhiteBeard Pirates have clashed near the main base of the Big Mom Pirates! It was a draw and both forces have vacated the now sunken Island! Moreover, WhiteBeard has made contact with Vice-Admiral John Giant! Leading to a crushing defeat on our side!!"
Kong immediately crushed his desk in pure rage, roaring; "What the hell was John thinking!!!" His voice could heard throughout the entire marine headquarters. its inhabitants had long gotten used to Kong's voice of frustration coming from the building.
He calmed down before snatching the piece of paper the messanger had brought in along with the message. Reading through the report he managed to get a summary of what led to the collision of the Whitebeard Pirates with the Big Mom Pirates. It had appeared that it started just as a skirmish for territory. The 3rd Division commander was fighting off the Big Mom's forces when some help had arrived.
It was the same person who was troubling Sengoku, Zephyr and Garp. It appeared that he had officially joined the Whitebeard Pirates, though his position remained unknown; further study into him was required. It escalated into a full on battle between Big Mom and code name 'Storm Dragon' that ended up destroying the entire island. It was unknown who won as they both were unconcious as a result of their last clash. Marco The Phoenix, the first division captain of the Whitebeard Pirates also arrived at the scene as well.
The two forces, seeing that their most powerful allies were both knocked out, quickly withdrew from the sinking island before the sea finally consumed it. It could easily be concluded that it was a draw from both battles. However, that was not what Kong was worried about. What worried him most was the fact that codename 'Storm Dragon' had the power to go toe to toe with a titan like Big Mom.
It didn't bode well knowing that there were two powerful people were on the same group. If they had decided to go on a rampage, the results would be devastating for anyone standing there way. Slowly, he moved on towards the conflict between Whitebeard and Vice-Admiral John Giant. He was the first Giant to join the marines, and he always prided himself over his strength. Apparently, he had gained intel that Whitebeard was going to be sailing nearby. So, John enlisted the help of the nearby marine base and asked for additional reinforcements.
Soon Whitebeard's ship, The Moby Dick, had made its appearance along with two other ships that were following it. The two ships by the Moby Dick's side were bombarded by the marine's cannons; thus forcing them into docking ashore before the two ships could sink. There were a lot of injuries from the sudden ambush. John Giant arrived promptly after and began to attack Whitebeard. However, Whitebeard wasn't amused, he used his devil fruit to land a devastating blow to John Giant and his forces.
They could only fall back after, however Whitebeard didn't vacate the island. In fact, he seemed to be waiting on someone to arrive. The marines were currently keeping a very close eye on him while refraining from attacking.
Kong sighed tiredly and leaned back on his chair. So much sudden news at a short period of time was not healthy to his slowly aging heart. He could only order the marines at the scene to contunue investigating without active interference. There was much conflict in the world, and the last thing they needed was a war coming to their home front.
