Chapter 46: CHAPTER FOURTY-SIX: Insomnia
Hazel stirred a bit in her sleep hearing the faint noises which she finally figured out to be voices.
She slowly opened her eyes to look into the concerned face of her mother in law,the lady was on the verge of crying.
Suddenly,her memories came back like a flash as she remembered what happened in the bathroom and also how Zaiden barged in on her while she was naked.
She touched her temple feeling a little headache and noticed the IV on her hand.
"Are you okay,how do you feel?"Avery asked concerned touching her temperature then turned to the maid"Get the doctor"
"Wa..ter"Hazel said more like whispered but her voice sounded cracky that she was sure the lady didn't hear her.
The door to her room was opened to reveal grandpa in his sleeping attire and that was when she figured out that they had already had dinner without her.
She didn't really planned to be a nuisance and disturb the family but it was not her fault anyway,that stupid and complicated bathroom made her into a fool.
"How's she?"The old man demanded from Avery,who turned to take note of his presence.
"I'm still waiting for the doctor, ''Avery replied, taking the jug of water and the glass cup beside her,filling it to the brim and turning to help Hazel drink from the cup.
She sat down carefully trying not to disengage the IV on her wrist,then mumbled a thanks to Avery before taking the water from her.
The doctor was already inside the room with the maid when she was done drinking the water,her vitals were checked and so many others before the man turned to the family.
"She's okay but needs rest due to the shock she had before passing out,but she will be fine for the engagement to tomorrow"
Avery gave out a deep breath she had been holding when she heard the doctor's statement. She was worried that she wouldn't be able to make it tomorrow but after what the man said right now,her nerves calmed down.
Hazel really scared the hell out of her this evening,what would she have told her friends and the women committee that have been excited to meet her if she didn't make it to her engagement tomorrow.
"I will be out now,take care"Grandpa said,already yawning,he's been awake waiting for her to wake up,he gave them a smile before exiting the room.
"Let me have dinner sent to you,"Avery said, turning to give a maid standing behind them a signal to get food for her.
"What about Zaiden?"Hazel asked,she really needed to know his reaction after seeing her faint due to the shock of him barging into the bathroom while she was nude.
"He's in his room,asleep i guess,I apologize for him not been here,he can be really stubborn and frustrating sometimes but that's going to change soon"
"I'm not complaining though,I just wanted to …"Hazel paused, not really knowing how to say what she wanted to say. She was sure Avery was not going to understand her,but the woman surprised her when she smiled at her naivety.
"He came out with you covered if that's what you are worried about,hopefully he's the only one who got to see you uh...naked before the others rushed up"Avery explained smiling at the girls cute expression when she told her what happened.
The maid came in with the food that she tried eating with her hands but Avery persisted that she lets her feed her,with the excuse that she didn't want her to stress herself.
Hazel couldn't do anything but let the woman have her way,sitting down while being fed by her mother-in-law. The lady made sure she finished everything on the plate that Hazel complained about over-eating but the woman said she was going to be fine,she didn't want her starving.
She drank her medicine and was tucked in bed like a baby by her,Hazel staring at her with tears almost coming from her face while looking lovingly at her.
This was one of the times she wished she had a mother,she never really got to enjoy the childhood of being with your parents,but after seeing how Avery treated her like she was her own child,her emotions got the best of her.
"Thanks.. mother"Hazel thanked her with tears rolling down her face,Avery didn't try to ask her what was wrong because she knew what was going through the mind of the young lady,she missed her family.
She remembered her telling her that she was an orphan,she didn't go on to pressure her on telling her how she was one ,but she was sure in due time Hazel would definitely open up to her.
Her heart melted when she heard mother coming from her lips. It sounded so nice hearing her calling her mother,she wished she had a female daughter but it wasn't that easy for her after giving birth to Zaiden.
She had complications after his birth which led to her not getting pregnant again,not that she was complaining,she really wished she had a daughter.
But they had been settled,she was going to spoil her daughter in-law with so much love and affection till she dies.
She doesn't really know what prompted the love for the girl,was it the fact that she returned the family's heirloom back to her,talking about the heirloom she was going to pass it to the young lady soon.
She kissed her temple,saying goodnight to the already sleeping beauty before she left her room.
Meanwhile,Hazel couldn't sleep,she was having insomnia which was happening to her for the first time,was it because she was not in her own house or what?
But whatever it was,she couldn't sleep,and after much tossing around in the bed,she came down, turning the door room open, looking fir the verandah to watch the moonlight.
The hallway was dark with dim light that she could barely make her way out to the verandah,she bumped into something hard that she nearly screamed for the second time had it been the something or person which she later figured out covered her mouth with his palm.
She was breathing heavily trying to control herself,because she's scared that she was in the hands of someone dangerous like Nathan.
"Calm down it's me"Zaiden whispered to her,trying to calm her heaving heart,it took a seconds before he removed his palm from her mouth and before she could turn around to talk to him.
He was gone.
Why was he still awake till now,was he coming to check on her in her room before she bumped into him accidentally, because honestly speaking,his room was not on this quarter so what was he doing here anyway?
Was he concerned about her that he came this late to check on her?
Why did he leave her immediately before she could speak to him?
Was he worried about their engagement tomorrow?
As much as there's a thin line separating the truth from lies,Hazel knew that no matter how much he claimed not to care for her he was concerned about her.
They couldn't sleep because they were worried about what their tomorrow,she was sure of it.
And very soon,they would be tied together for the rest of their lives,hopely forever.
