Chapter 1: Prologue
My name is Lila and I'm a 23-year-old college student. It had gotten late when I finally finished my assignments and went home. Walking in the cool slightly breezy night felt surprisingly relaxing. I didn't live far and a little exercise every day is good for one's health. On my way home, I took my phone and earbuds out to listen to my playlist. Immersed in my music I didn't notice the unmanned vehicle storming towards me. I noticed bright lights quickly coming at me and am hit by them. I feel pain all over. There's a lot of noise going on around me, but I can't make any of it out. I see another bright light, then nothing.
"Do you want to live?" Out of everything going on, that deep, calm, monotoned voice is all I could make out.
"Yes... please save me." I have no idea if that person heard me or not. I didn't have long to ponder on whether I was heard. Everything becomes quiet and still. No more pain, bright lights, or noise. Just a peaceful calm.
I'm standing upright in this place of nothing, I walk forward, hoping to find anything more than darkness. Even when I reach my hand out in front of me, I still feel nothing. Emptiness.
Out of know where a bright figure appears in the shape of a person.
"Do you still wish to be saved?" He says in a voice that's smoother than butter. My whole body feels weak at hearing it.
Of course, that's a no-brainer. I still had so much I wanted to do, and things were going so well for me. "Yes, please. I would love to return to my family and the life I had."
" I'm sorry Lila, but you are beyond saving in that life. You were hit by a truck that lost control. Your body can't be saved, so your soul can't return. I am asking if you want me to save your soul. You have a strong will and incredible determination. Your soul is still pure despite the hardships you've endured. There is another world where a soul like yours is needed. I would like to ask for help to be reborn as my chosen one. Save them before it's too late. Guide them to a better future. I have sent others, but no one has been able to succeed. There will be many difficult situations you'll have to face. Many challenges you'll have to overcome. This is the only way to save you and if fate allows it, save them all." He then reaches his hand out for me to take. It is a lot to take in. I'm dead, and the only way to save me is to start over on a totally different planet. I don't even know how to feel about this. I guess being reborn isn't so bad.
Before I take his hand, I must ask. "What is it that I must do? Why am I needed? What can a nobody like me even do?" I was scared, I'll admit it. Everything he was saying still sounded unbelievable.
He reaches his hand out a little more. "Walk with me for a bit." So, I take his brightly lit, smooth hand and walk with him. It seemed to have a calming effect on me because my chest didn't feel so heavy anymore.
"You will be reborn with a clean slate. Your memories will slowly start coming to you in your dreams starting with a prophecy, I'm going to give you. I have come to realize being born in the world of beasts and having time to learn and live their way, is the best way to go. Your instincts will know what to do. Things will come to you out of nowhere. Hopefully, you will know to trust yourself and go through with every idea that comes to you. You are to evolve their world and make it better, as well as be their savior from the evil that is spreading. I will also send you a helper that will be there to guide you with your missions and save you when you're in danger. There will also be a prophet there whom I can speak through and be there for you as well. Even with this on your soul, you may still live your life there and do what you must to survive. Now child, are you ready for this next path, to find your true destiny and see where fate leads you?" It feels like he was smiling towards the end of his little speech.
"It does seem like a lot to put on a single person, but my options are limited so all I can say is, I hope I don't disappoint." I turn to look at him and smile. I know he's smiling back at me. He then lets go of my hand and puts it on my forehead. "There is a grave evil sweeping the lands, devouring the souls of innocents, and leaving chaos and darkness in its wake. A young female chosen by the Ancestral tree will use her voice to seal evil back in its time. She will save the people and bring prosperity back to the land and souls of the living." He takes his hand off my head and right before everything goes black again, I hear him say. "Good luck my child. May you make all the right choices and don't let greed consume you". Why would he say that last part?
