Chapter 25: 24

They went inside a restaurant in the rest area, Roselia Bar.

And sat at some corner toward the back and was isolated from the rest of the customers.

Alaric was beyond furious when he heard his madam's back story. He almost toppled the heavy table with his tiny body. The sight of his fuming with anger, with his face reddened to the point of steam seeping out from his head and cheeks bulging out, was adorable.

Xie really wanted to pinch his dumpling-like cheek. Too cute!

"What's wrong with that woman?! She was the one who bumped into you, even harmed you. Where did she have the gut to push the blame on you?! If I ever see her, I will certainly grab her hair as soon as I see her and shake her head like a rattle to vent your resentment, madam!"

Xie almost burst out in a burst of laughter due to Alaric's childish words. Grab her hair and shake her head? For what reason?

Why would you initiate a childish squabble with the protagonist? If I could avoid meeting her, I would already feel grateful. Why would I intentionally court death? I choose to pluck out the death flags on my head rather than planting them, okay?!

"Stop being angry, kid. Please, just eat your lunch."

Alaric was clearly dissatisfied with his madam's nonchalant response.

"But-"

Xie immediately stuffed rice inside Alaric's mouth.

"Eat."

Alaric pouted his mouth and silently munched his food.

Richard and Isaac sat on the table adjacent to them, ordering simple lunch to pad off their empty stomach.

There was one question that kept swirling inside Xie's mind.

Why would the captured target ignore the protagonist?

Shouldn't she have this unique halo that would attract the capture target's attention just from the mere sight of her? What was it? Mary Sue halo? Or was it the protagonist halo?

Isaac's indifference toward the protagonist made him question the eligibility of the main character. Was her charm limited? Was she unable to bewitch just anyone of her own will? She couldn't willfully use her ability on the capture target and has some restrictions to abide by, regardless of her golden finger?

If unimportant characters, she might not have a problem charming them.

But the capture targets were different. As far as Xie knows, they held equal influence over the story just as much as the protagonist.

They were the ones who made the plot ongoing and the most crucial pieces in the development of the story. They were, after all, the male leads.

Xie blinked his eyes as the flash of realization flashed across his face.

Then, if he cannot avoid the protagonist and cannot avoid his cannon fodder's fate, he should at least find a way to change his miserable destiny.

Like asking for the capture target's help? Or, maybe, basked under their halos for his protection. Since they were attracted to him anyway, couldn't he could use this to his advantage?

But, he would not ask Arthur's help! He disliked him, and at the mere sight of the man, his heart seethed with resentment. Arthur kept mistreating Xie Winchester since their early marriage. So, he held a grudge over that matter. Unless he vented out his emotion toward the culprit, he wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully at night! (A/N: What a liar. You slept soundly at night and even grit your teeth in your sleep.)

"Should we walk around after our lunch?" Isaac finally said something after an awkward silence. "There is a bazaar in this rest area."

"Bazaar?" Xie's interest got reeled in at the mention of the bazaar. Wouldn't it mean a variety of snacks?!

Isaac saw the twinkles inside his eyes and how his smile beamed with anticipation. The light within his eyes gave him the impression of the milky way. Well, just with the addition of a tinge of green inside it. Very eye-catching and made oneself feel submerged in the wilderness.

"Yes. Would you like to go?" Isaac kept smiling as his scarlet eyes gleamed with an indescribable light. After all, there was an ulterior motive behind his invitation. He wished to deepen Xie's impression of him.

The better his impression, the closer they would become and the faster the man would fall into his embrace. And, it would be easier for him to trick Xie into a peaceful separation from his current husband. Two people who no longer loved each other should part away without hard feelings. And, finally, he can do this and that to him legally. (A/N: Counting too many chickens even before they hatch. You are bound to get disappointed sooner or later. Or was he?)

"Sure! I would love to restock my snack!" Just by imagining these had made Xie drool. Cakes, chocolates, biscuits, and loaves of bread. All his favorite food would be there!

Alaric gave him stink eyes.

"Madam, you'll get fat! Too many snacks are not good for your health. Eat with moderation, please!"

"Who cares if I get fat? I'm gonna made my body into an inflated balloon. Besides, it's not like I'm going to impress anyone with my body."

"Still..." Alaric needed to remind his madam about his gluttonous attitude. If madam did get fat because of overeating, wouldn't it be a devastating strike on him? Even if madam and master get a divorce, he still wishes for his madam to find his happiness.

He hoped for his madam to marry someone he loves and someone that would love him back. It was sad if his madam died alone on his deathbed without a partner accompanying him through his last moment.

If Xie knew how far-fetched Alaric's thought wondered, he might pinch Alaric's cheeks in anger. That brat deserved to get punished by him.

"Please?" Xie kept persuading his servant. Before Alaric, he deliberately blinked his eyes multiple times. The aura of innocence lit up his dull eyes. "Please~??" His voice sounded more coquettish due to time. Xie grabbed the end of Alaric's sleeve and playfully shook the man. "Please~~???"

Isaac smiled amusedly at their banters. His loving smile made Richard want to vomit his food back. He stared at his boss in disbelief.

His boss had gone mad! There were suspicious pink bubbles that popped out of nowhere in the background. The secretary did say that their boss had fallen in love with some married man. He thought that man had gone insane and spouting nonsense to tease him. It was the truth?!

"Fine." The boy relented. "But, please control yourself, madam. If anything, please only buy one pack for each different sweets. Would you promise me this, madam?"

Xie vigorously nodded his head.

Leyla regained her consciousness in the hospital. She was alone with an IV drip attached to the back of her palm.

Leyla calmly summoned the system inside her mind.

(Yes, host?) An unfeeling, mechanical voice devoid of warmth replied to her summon.

[Why did you electrocute me?!] Leyla growled. If the system had a body, she would grab him by his shoulder right now and overthrow him onto the hard floor. [Didn't you say I can ignore OOC restriction?! Are you lying to me, system?]

(Of course, you can OOC if you can handle the consequence, host. Why would this weak-looking system try to block your path into destruction?)

Leyla got irked by her system's sarcastic remark.

It was in her nature to do anything she wanted without anyone restricting her freedom. She was unbridled and prideful. As the daughter of the biggest and the most well-known base in the apocalyptic world, her father pampered her to her heart's content.

Despite not having a powerful ability and merely a ranking one power user, her life was easy and comfortable. It was due to her father's backing that she became untouchable.

While the other survivors had slowly died due to hunger and malnutrition, she brazenly wasted her food and money on the useless thing. She treated human beings like dispensable objects. Their lives were worth nothing more than mere insects.

She also had killed many people for her own amusement. Either by his own two hands or borrowing someone else ability to deal with her enemy. She resorted to anything.

And, she hated Wu Zhi very much. There was no reason, but she despised him. She and Wu Zhi was merely an acquaintance. A total strangers with no intersection in their lives.

She knew Wu Zhi, but Wu Zhi didn't know her because, in their past lives, there was clear disparency between their status. She was an ability user, whereas Wu Zhi was an ordinary human. He should have long ago died in the hands of zombies, but his luck was too good. He persisted for ten whole years, unscathed.

Despite her interference, some were petty little tricks, and some were a handful of sabotage plans that could endanger his life, but every single time, Wu Zhi successfully escaped from that.

She was infuriated by it. How come an ordinary human like him managed to stay alive, albeit in a poverty-stricken state, and endured it for ten whole years but still retained his humanity and stayed innocent? While she...Leyla balled her fist. Her knuckles had turned white due to the force behind her fisted hands.

It must be because of that person. That man was Wu Zhi's guardian angel.

She coincidentally met a delightful sight.

Seeing Wu Zhi's battered corpse made her feel a sense of satisfaction.

She almost burst into tears as she laughed with euphoria and kept her disgusted gazes over the body of the man she despised so much.

Who knows that the last thing she saw before she died was Wu Zhi's detached head in the embrace of someone. The man laughed maniacally, tears stream down his pale, white cheeks, and suddenly, without rhyme, the man before her eyes exploded himself.

She died due to the outburst of a blinding silver light that happened so suddenly and wiped out half of the continent and reduced the population of humans and zombies to a mere fraction.

Her power was worth nothing in front of the omnipotent being before her eyes. She cannot escape, nor can she avoid her demise. Death had embraced her before anything else.

Curse you! Either that man or Wu Zhi, she could never forgive them!

After she awoke from her deep slumber, she found herself in a body of a commoner girl. Sure, she was ecstatic that she was granted a second chance to live her life in another world.

To say she was happy was an understatement. She was beside herself in joy at the blessing she received.

But, to her disappointment, though, why would her vessel be so useless? Why did her character's background look very dull and lack many things?

She was certainly pretty and had a nice body. But, other than that? She was ordinary.

As she fell into deep thought, a monotonous voice resounded inside her mind.

Mini Theater. (Part 2)

Arthur: What did you say? (Stared at his secretary in disbelief) Have I mistaken something? I seemed to hear that you wish to covert my wife?

Secretary: (Fearless) No, Mr. President. You didn't mishear anything. I did say that.

Arthur: What is the purpose? (Frowned)

Secretary: (Walked in front of Arthur's desk, still maintaining his wicked smile. Leaned in to come face-to-face with Arthur) You never knew how blessed you're to get that person loved you, aren't you? Some people desperately hoped for him to glance at them even for a mere second, but Prince Xie never did that. His focus is solely only you. Could you imagine how delighted we felt when we heard how rocky your relationship was with him? That's means we still have a chance, one chance to redeem his love.

Arthur: ??? (Dumbfounded) You're joking. Right? There's no way...

Secretary: (Chuckled slyly) It's up to you whether you want to believe my words or not. The moment you let him go and cast him away from your life, you'll never get him back. That will be your greatest regret, Mr. President. (Patted Arthur's cheeks) Please get ready for your next meeting.

Arthur: (Saw the secretary went out of the room but his mouth couldn't utter anything) .....

Arthur: (Blankly stared at the ceiling) Ever since he awoke from his fainting, everything had gone haywire. In the past, no one ever paid any attention to him. So, why now?
