Chapter 6: 6- Talk To Me
Nate comes running down the hallway, terrified of something. "Slow down, Nate." I grab his arm, "what's wrong?" I could hear his heart beating fast, I held him close. "It's Robert, he's scaring me." setting him on the chair in the hall, I shoot a funny face at him. "sit tight little bug, I'm going to investigate." Nate smiles, waving at me.
As I crept up the steps, I see Robert sitting on the floor, cutting his wrists. "Robert, what the hell are you doing?" He shrugs his shoulders, cutting deeper into his wrist. "He needs blood, Nicole. He'll die without it." Blood drips from his wrist to the floor, he begins to chant.
"He will kill his family for blood, blood is for him." He says over and over, freaking me out. "Kill this family?" I yell, "this family has done nothing but love you." Robert gets up and starts running toward me, I push him backward and lock the door.
Grabbing Nate, we both run for Danes room. Completely out of breath, I begin to explain what I just saw. Dane grabs a baseball bat, gripping it tightly. Blood from the attic seeped through the floor onto his shoulder, he shook his head. "What the hell is wrong with him?" I throw my hands in the air, not having the slightest clue. "I'll take care of him, stay here."
Dane stomps up the stairs, unlocking the door. "What the hell dude? Get out of our house!" He yells, pointing at the door. Robert clicks his tongue ring against his teeth, it sounded like a clock ticking. His eyes were completely black, his smile was devilish. "Don't get in my way, Dane. I was planning on killing you first, because I like you. Now, you'll be my last, and most brutal murder." Putting a chair in front of the door, Dane comes back with a plan.
"I'll go tell mom and dad, you get the little ones. Tell them what's really going on, make it known." Dane whispers before running out of the room, I nod my head. It was my job to keep the kids safe, and that's what I'll do.
Quickly, Nate and I round up the rest of the children. I bend down on a knee, and begin explaining the plan. "You guys need to hide really good, Robert cannot see you. Do you understand?" They all nod their heads, "go, quickly." I whisper, watching them all take off in different directions.
"Mom, dad, I'm serious." Dane crosses his arms, "Robert wants to kill us." Mom looks into my dads eyes, he kissed mom. "Go, hide like you've never hid before. Don't come out until I say it's safe." A tear escapes her eye as she runs into the other room, mom has found a good spot to hide.
It was silent in the house of the Duncans, not even a breath could be heard.
>I hid inside the old chest in the office.
>Nate was hiding in the basement, he was hidden underneath the big entertainment center, gripping onto a wrench from the toolbox.
>Mom was hiding with the black curtains, being as still as a picture. Lilly was above mom in a vent, watching through the cracks.
>Sophia's hiding under the couch, hugging her knees.
>Dane and dad are quietly lurking in the shadows, watching Roberts every move.
Dane holds his bat close, ready to swing at any moment. Dad calmly walked around the house, ready to shoot Robert with his pistol. As he reaches the living room, he spots Sophia. "Back up," he mouths, Sophia wiggling backward toward the wall.
I could hear footsteps coming near the office, I wasn't sure if it was Robert or Dane. I hold my breath as they came closer, the footsteps slowly fade away. "Hide and Seek, huh?" He chuckled. "I'll find you all, and kill you." Waving his knife around, he smiles to himself. "I have an idea. If someone sacrifices themselves, I'll let everyone else go." He yelled, his voice echoed throughout the house.
I would take that deal, but I knew it was a lie. I hoped nobody would fall for his trick, but I wasn't sure. When he noticed nobody was coming out, he angrily stomped his feet. "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, here I come." He yells.
Let the games begin.
I was listening to him yell, getting mad that he couldn't find anyone. Knowing my siblings, they usually hide in the most obvious spots. I was relieved, knowing they tried their best. His footsteps fade away into the next room, I let out a sigh. I was sure he'd find my hiding spot, it was the easiest find. Maybe I wanted to make it easy for him, it would've gave everyone else a chance to run. Deep in my thoughts, a small crackling noise startled me.
I popped the trunk open a crack, looking for the noise. A room away, I could see a Walkie-Talkie in the distance. It must have been a sign, someone was out there to help us. Inching my way out of the chest, I reach the floor. It felt like an eternity, but it was right in front of my face.
I was scared to get caught, killed. I started to think about the kids, what would they do without me? Grabbing the Walkie-Talkie, I dart back to the trunk and close it quickly. "Is someone there?" I whisper.
"I can help you, but you have to listen carefully." The male voice says, being quiet. Nodding my head, I was listening. "I have a few rules to obey, if you listen; you will survive this."
>1. Do not make any sudden movements. He will hear you, and come right for you.
>2. If you hear any footsteps, do not breathe. He's able to hear any noises up to ten feet around him.
>3. He cannot hear me, I am your guardian angel.
> 4. I will tell you when it is okay to find your family, I will be watching him.
>5. The roof is safe. Robert cannot set foot up there, his demon won't allow it.
>6. This is the last instruction, do not talk back to me. He will hear you, and you will be killed.
"Be safe, smart and quiet. Good luck to you and your family."
