Chapter 2: Lágrimas

"Killian," The girl said with a peculiar accent before speaking a language he couldn't recognize, still keeping her distance, walking with her knees, unable to stand up properly. Her hands were shaking as she leaned in to get slightly closer to Killian.

Killian pressed his lips together to try and piece together what she had said to him, noticing that the language was a peculiar mix of German, Polish, and Russian. He shook his head, not being able to translate it properly before signing to her, attempting to have her understand that he couldn't speak her language. She paused for a moment to try and understand what he was motioning for. Killian believed that she finally understood after a few tries after she nodded in confirmation. Killian pointed in the direction of the town, an area large enough to still be seen a few miles away. Killian looked in the direction of the town before looking back to the girl, pointing to himself, pointing to her, and then pointing back to the town. She visibly hesitated before nodding slowly.

"Are you okay?" Killian asked, remembering shortly after that she couldn't understand him. She made the same mistake as quickly as he did before stopping herself causing Killian to chuckle. Killian sighed before pointing to himself, "Killian," then pointing to her, "What's your name?"

She understood almost immediately, "Onora."

Killian smiled, "Onora." She didn't know how to react before nodding to herself.

"Killian."

Killian attempted to reach out to her, causing her to flinch, attempting to distance herself a bit further from him. Killian pulled his arm back, a somber expression coming across his face, "Sorry... I didn't mean to do that."

She looked back over to the carriage, crawling back over towards it. Killian felt his heart sink to his stomach as he could clearly see the desperation in her body movements. As she was crawling away, Killian took off a ripped-up overcoat that he was wearing. A short sleeve black shirt, black slacks stuffed into thick boots, putting two gloves back onto his hands after removing it with the jacket he had taken off. He watched as her body twitched in sorry from a distance, crying as she held the hands of the two dead men farther into a thicket of trees. Killian couldn't help but mind his own business, just contemplate on the side of a road, staring out to the field sat just before him.

After waiting for a few minutes, she motioned Killian to come over, which he did. He approached, cringing as she held her hand out for him to pick her up. He grabbed her hand, standing her up as she fell into his chest, her eyes closed as hard as she possibly could before peeking through, looking up at Killian. His kind expression helped her relax as she pointed to the carriage. Killian hesitated, supporting her up as they walked to the broken-down carriage.

She stopped at one end of the carriage, looking at what Killian could assume was her dead mother, an expression with many meanings spreading across her face before burying her face into Killian's chest. Killian rubbed her back before tapping her shoulder, pointing to the town just over the horizon. She nodded. "Alright," Killian commented to himself, slowly bringing her closer and closer to the village beyond.

As they approached closer and closer to the gates, two guards began jogging over to them. One of them with black spikey hair and one wearing a helmet on his head which obscured his face. Onora attempted to run over to them, tripping and falling before being caught by Killian, slowly bringing her up. She winced before being grabbed by the black-haired guard, holding her tight. Killian figured that he immediately understood what happened. The other guard approached Killian, attempting to speak to him. Killian motioned that he couldn't understand the guard but it appeared to go through one eye and out the other since the guard couldn't really understand what he was implying. Onora turned to the guard, probably telling him that Killian didn't understand what he was saying.

The guard rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. The one with the black hair asked Onora something and she pointed to Killian. The black-haired man nodded to Killian as a sign of thanks, and Killian nodded back.

Killian stood there, waiting for their conversation to end until the black-haired man motioned Killian to follow him. The other guard helped Onora walk as they reached the gate, the black-haired man talking to some of the other guards before opening a door on the side of the gate, leading into a room with multiple chairs surrounding a round table inside. The black-haired man motioned for Killian to take a seat while Onora appeared to be taken to a doctor just across the way. The black-haired man sat across from him.

More words he couldn't understand left the man's mouth and all Killian could do was watch him ramble on about something or other. Killian could visibly see the black-haired man nervously look at the wall, and could inference that he knew that he was essentially talking to a brick wall. Killian motioned for a book and the black-haired man nodded, standing up and grabbing an array of documents before placing it in front of him as if understanding Killian's intentions.

Killian opened up the documents, looking through them one by one, piecing together the language inside. Killian's first assumption was correct all along -- a mix of European languages scrambled together. Serbian, Celtic, Russian, Icelandic. Killian mumbled as he pieced the words together, finding different letters and words from different languages and piecing them together with one another, attempting to find the meaning. Killian wanted to confirm one of his suspicions though, pointing to another document that he had believed to be describing armbands and bracelets, something similar to that, pointing to his wrist quickly as he pointed to the words. The black-haired man pointed to the armor around his wrist before nodding, Killian smiled.

To easily describe this world's dialect, or at least this place within the world -- words jumbled together with the same meanings, so if one word had the same meaning, in this language they would replace a few letters and placings in said word and, to reiterate, this is the combination of multiple words in different languages that mean the same thing, combined together to make something new, this is what this language it. The hard part was remembering it all and attempting his best to not turn every word he spoke into a broken version of their language. Killian could most likely understand them perfectly by now, but the biggest issue is if he could communicate back.

"What's your name?" The black-haired man asked as Killian attempted to remember the words for himself, confirmed that he could understand them perfectly fine by now, it just took a bit of time to process.

Killian hesitated for a moment, "Killian... y-you?" He fucked up on the last few syllables but he managed it.

The black-haired man's eyes widened in surprise, "Umm... I'm Mikael."

Killian nodded, "Nice... to m-meet, Mikael."

"Nice to meet you too."
