Chapter 2: A system?

Jacob would have liked to say that beautiful sunlight shone down on the back of his head as he made his way to the bus station, but the dark clouds overhead let no sun through. In fact he was a bit worried it would rain, though he didn't really care for the raggedy grey clothes he was wearing he would prefer to stay on the dryer side of the dry spectrum. So with thoughts of getting soaked in his mind he sprinted to the bus stop.

Luck was on his side, because as he arrived at the bus stop, and made it under the bus stop awning the first drops of water fell down from the heavens or in a more literal sense, the dark clouds blanketing this part of Chicago. Jacob was heading back to the orphanage to pack up and get his last night of sleep there before he would make his way to New York.

The bus ride was just as boring as the rest of Jacobs dreary life and ended as abruptly as it began with him stepping out of the bus directly into a small puddle. Feeling the wetness creep into his socks Jacob simply sighed and stepped onto the curb. The rain had stopped but not without souring Jacob's good mood.

The one block walk back to the orphanage was uneventful, well other than the wet squishy noise that came from his shoes, he could see the building he had spent most of his life in, a three story brick building with grimy windows and a faded wood door. climbing up the small flight of stairs he entered through the front door.

His orphanage was divided into three parts, which part you were in was determined by age since he was now the oldest possible resident he was on the top most floor of the building, there were only a few kids his age but at this point they were all gone. He was alone in his bunk room and he was thankful for that because it left him the silence required for study, something he needed for those tedious years of highschool.

While musing to himself that this was his last night in this shithole he arrived at his floor, met with the same dank corridor he walked every day, he simply walked faster, quickly making it to his room. The door opened with a click revealing his small living space, an unmade bed, small dirty window overlooking the street down below and a small dresser stack holding all of his possessions.

He walked to his dresser and quickly picked out his finest clothes. He would only bring his best stuff because he planned on going shopping tomorrow, after going to the bank. He threw his best clothes into maybe his only nice possession, his fathers black leather travel case. It was a good make and probably was worth more than everything else he had added together.

After packing his bag Jacob quickly made his way down the hallway to the shower, a small room with only two working faucets and no curtains which would have been a problem if he had any neighbors, but with his apparent lack of them, it was fine. While Jacob looked into a cracked mirror mounted on the discolored wall he thought of his future college life. Though his college was still about two months out he was going to move to New York tomorrow, Jacob had been looking for cheap apartments near campus and he had found one, the only problem would be he would have a roommate he didn't know which didn't sit well with him, but he was too poor, even with his parents money, to afford his own place.

Taking his shirt off Jacob looked into the mirror, and what looked back at him was his shity face, a testament to how unlucky he was. A deep sigh escaped from Jacobs mouth, who was he kidding college would be the same fucking shit. He would be ignored pushed around and forgotten, he would graduate with his degree, which happened to be a degree in business and management, then he would fucking waste his life working, No friends, no girlfriend, no wife, no kids.

Jacob looked into that dirty mirror and wallowed in regret, regret for being so ugly, so god damn forgettable, so uncharismatic, he would never lose his virginity or be successful. As he wallowed in self deprivation, a distinctly robotic voice sounded in his head.

["Yes, in your current trajectory you will amount to nothing."]

Jacob, feeling a real fear for his life, jumped and spun around now looking around the dimly lit bathroom. He couldn't see anybody which unnerved him further, so he quickly made his way to the door to look down the hall. What greeted him was an empty corridor, lacking any life form other than the occasional cockroach.

Jacob felt his raised blood pressure lower, and as relief flooded him, laughter escaped his lips for the first time in a very long time.

"My sleep deprivation is finally catching up with me, and now I'm hearing fucking voices."

Jacob decided that a quick shower would be for the best, he went to take off his pants but suddenly paused, the reason for that was the same robotic voice sounding out once again in his head.

["I'm not an imaginary voice Jacob Romano I am very real, as real as any other thing I am a system created by God …"]

Before the robotic voice, which on a side note sounded distinctly feminine, finished its sentence Jacob spun around and looked around the room while stuttering,

"Who's there?"

["Well human, if you hadn't so rudely interrupted me I would have explained. I am a system created by God designed to…"]

Before the voice could finish its sentence it was once again interrupted by Jacob who was frantically looking for where the voice was coming from.

"Your lying god isn't real and your just some fucking loser pranking me if you don't…"

He was interrupted though by the same voice but this time much louder,

["Shut up, SHUT UP you stupid human and let me finish I will explain everything to you if you just shut up and stop interrupting. Now where was I ohh yes I am a system created by a God for entertainment, I am known as the LUST system. My purpose is to turn boring nobody's like you into, well as you humans would call it emperors, a sex emperor to be exact."]

Jacob stared into the mirror and punched his cheek he felt pain, and just to confirm it he turned on the tap and splashed water onto his face. Now he knew he was awake, which confused him even more because he could swear there was some sort of robot talking to him.

["Do you need proof of my existence, Jacob Romano?"]

The feminine voice spoke once again seemingly coming from his head and not his surroundings. Jacob shook at the voice but still steeled himself to answer this voice.

"Yes I would appreciate it if you would prove you exist because currently I feel like I'm going crazy."

Sweat poured down his back as he finished speaking, looking around frantically to see where the voice was originating from.

["I am sorry to inform you but since I am currently housed in your brain You will not be able to see me. On a different note I welcome you as a new host to the LUST system, to gain proof of my existence all you have to do is finish the set up steps. There is only one step to set up the LUST system, just say open hud."]

Jacob wasn't sure what was going on for all he knew he was now clinically insane, but something inside him told him that maybe, just maybe he isn't crazy.

"Open hud."

As those words left Jacobs lips the most magical thing he had ever seen appeared before his eyes, a Floating text box with white and blue font with two huge words at the top, LUST SYSTEM.
