Chapter 22: Chapter 22

As she expected, the crowd of reporters went wild after Tony's declaration. Rhodey, who was next to him, just had a second to look exasperated before his training kicked and he helped the other security guards who were in front of the excited people by walking Tony to the backstage where she was in with Pepper and Coulson.

"Are you sure of your decision, Mr. Stark?" said Coulson as soon as Tony went in. For his part, the man ignored him, instead focusing on her. "How was it?"

She voiced her thoughts to everyone in the secret so she wouldn't be left out and giggled. 'Nothing I didn't expect'

"Rude."

She could feel Coulson's frustration as he let out a tiny sigh. She rubbed his pants with her side. 'Don't worry, agent. I'll protect Tony in case he can't do it himself.'

"Hey!"

Everyone ignored Tony and he probably would have said something snarky if Happy hadn't walked in at that moment. "Boss, the path is free for us to walk out."

"Awesome, Happy." He then turned to Pepper. "So I'll go then?"

Pepper rolled her eyes. "Yes, yes. You can leave and leave everything to me to fix."

Ignoring the sarcasm, Tony smiled winningly. "Awesome. Let's go, Eva."

As soon as they went out and followed Happy, she couldn't help but point out. 'She deserves a raise, you know that, right?'

Tony nodded his head, but said nothing until they were inside the limo.

"Remember me to order her a raise, okay?"

'I'm not your secretary, you know.'

"You would rock the secretary outfit, though."

She rolled her eyes. 'Anyway, what are you going to do now? I don't think you can go to other countries to put destroy your weapons anymore.'

"Why?"

Well, actually, she wasn't sure if her world's rules would apply here. 'Don't you need to bear responsibility for your actions or something?'

Tony scoffed. "I'm rich, remember?"

She deadpanned at him. 'Right.'

"Also, I've got some weight I can still throw around."

'Even with the Weapons Division of your company closed?'

"Well, my company won't produce new weapons, but I still got to continue some contracts with the military until the year's end. That way I can also slowly change the company without mass firings employes."

He was actually more thoughtful than she thought. That may be why there weren't any protests going on instead of just the fall of the stocks.

Tony threw a smile at her. "What are you thinking about? I bet is something rude."

She scoffed and looked to the side, trying to not look too guilty. 'No.'

With a chuckle, he patted her head. You sound totally guilty. I don't know if it's because you can't lie well while talking with your mind or not."

Shit. She needs to practice if what he says it's true. Or maybe not. She doesn't want to lie to others in this life. Not even to herself.

"Boss, we're here."

Tony nods as he grabs her between his arms and waves at Happy. They enter his house with the sound of the limo driving away in the background.

There is a faint happiness in Tony's steps as he calls out. "Jarvis!"

However, instead of Jarvis' polite tone, what came was his distorted voice.

"Welcome Home, Sir," is what he says before cutting himself off.

Eva is quick to transform into Mew before floating in front of Tony. Her gaze immediately goes to the other life signature in the room.

"'I'm Iron man'," the man says, his figure faintly visible to the two of them. His voice doesn't carry a mocking edge as she expected, instead he is solemn as he says the words, a tint of irony in his voice, maybe. "You think you're the only superhero in the world?"

He doesn't let Tony answer. He glances at her instead as he follows those words with, "Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe. Though perhaps you know some of it."

"Who the hell are you?" Tony says with a slight growl. She can't see him as she is in front of him but she suspects he's tense at not having his suit.

The man walks out into the light in all his bald glory. "Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."

She lowers her guard at the same time Tony says nonchalantly, "Ah."

"I'm here to talk to you both about the Avengers Initiative."

"Not interested," he says before she has a chance to speak. She turns to glare at him.

'I can give my own opinion.' She turns to Fury once again and tilts her head. 'I would like to know more about it and about the agency you represent.'

"Don't bother, Eva. All the alphabet soup of agencies are the same. What I'm more interested in is how you went in and messed with Jarvis."

Eva gives him a tilt of her head, voicing her silent agreement. 'I've got to admit that you coming inside his house and messing with Jarvis is not a great way to paint yourself or your agency. Though if you planned to make him curious, well, I think you succeeded.'

"Hey, don't reveal all my secrets."

She rolled her eyes. 'They're a secret agency. I bet they already got more information about yourself than you would like to know.'

"Can't deny it. My life has been fairly public." He shrugs.

It's kind of sad how he seems to shrug off that fact. She wants to comfort him by nuzzling against him, but before that, Fury says, "What we don't have is information about you, Miss Eva."

Tony steps in front of her, which makes her float slightly higher as to see Fury's reaction. "What do you want with her?"

The man only shrugs, seemingly unconcerned with Tony's sudden display of protectiveness. "Me? Nothing. However, what will want the world outside is another thing. They know nothing about her, after all. Ignorance breeds fear, you know."

"Are you threating her?"

'No, no,' she interrupted him, floating to be next to him instead of behind Tony. 'He's right. Most would likely see me as a threat and would try to capture me or something.'

"I can protect you," Tony says, his chest slightly puffed out.

She shakes her head. 'I don't want to cause trouble, though.'

"You wouldn't."

She smiles before floating on top of his head and lying on top of it as if to hug him. 'Thank you, really. I would prefer to solve most of my problems, but I know when to ask for help. Also, I think Director Fury would help out with the right incentive.'

She looks at the folder that's sitting next to the table. 'So, tell us about this Avengers Initiative.'
