Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Keeping Knight Healthy/Finding Evidence.
"What do you mean she is making him sick?" The Zee went on to explain. "I have known my brother a lot growing up. I know the how he looks when its something he remembers." "You mean he familiar with it?" "Yeah that's right. I noticed he was staring at Auntie Quinn too. That's when he had that face. I think sooner rather than later you will have to explain it to him. I don't want my brother getting sick or worse." "All right I'll talk to Auntie Quinn about it." "Thank you uncle Bain." So he left to do that and Zee went to make sure her brother was ok.
She rubbed his head and ran her fingers through his hair like he did when she was little. "Good he doesn't feel hot. He looks normal." "Hmm. Zee? Is that you?" "Yes brother. I know you were tired uncle told me." "Oh sorry. Yeah I was. How is uncle doing?" "Well." Zee told him what she talked about with Bain. "I see. Thanks sis. I don't think they will but thank you." "You know I don't like seeing you like this. You get sick too easy big brother." "Yeah I know. I did a lot growing up huh? Did dad tell you why?" "Hmm not that I remember." "OK Well lets wait until uncle is free then I will tell him. I'm sure he would want to get more info from Ms. Sun about it too so we can visit." "Yeah that would be nice." "I bet it would. Sis." "Hey now. We are only friends. Nothing more." "Well duh. When you two are old enough you are definitely going to be boyfriend and girlfriend. When we visit. I'm sure we will have time to visit sometimes. Uncle will have to start working again in 2 more days. Then he can look for dad some more." "Yeah I hope he is ok." "Yeah me too. what time is it?" "Oh its Lunchtime. I came to check on you to see if you are awake and ok cause it was that time. Uncle said to make sure you are up by lunch." "Oh yeah. I'm actually refreshed now." "lets go." "Oh wait brother." "What?" "Did you draw all these?" "Yeah why?" "Your good. Writing too. You should show uncle." "Maybe I will later let's go eat I'm hungry." So I took my brother to the living room and we ate our lunch.
"How are you feeling Knight?" "Hmm better. Thanks for letting me sleep in." "Oh no problem." "Oh uncle when you get a chance. Brother and I need to talk to you alone." "Ok kids is anything wrong?" "No its ok." Then Auntie Quinn felt bad. "Kids I want you to know I won't hurt you ok? I promise you that." "We know auntie its that we don't know you very well. When we start to get to know you better we will tell you these things ok?" "Thank you Zee." "Uncle did you do as I ask?" "Yes I will tell you tonight." "Ok good."
Finally night came and it was time to talk to uncle privately with the two kids. "So uncle before you tell me we want to tell you something. It has to do with Knight." "Ok so what is it?" Then I spoke. "When I was little I got sick a lot. So when I saw that Quinn looked familiar that is why I didn't feel good. Its strange. I was told since mom died that is when I started getting sick. At least according to dad." "I see. What kind of episodes did you have?" "I had fainting episodes pretty much. Sometimes I ended up with a fever. Other random stuff. I'm sure you can get more info from my doctor and Ms. Sun. If you see her can we go?" "Woah hold on now. Yes I will be going to see them both. I will take you but don't make a big deal ok?" "Yes uncle thank you." "Ok now as for what you told me to do. I'm sure she told you by now Knight?" "Yes sir." "Ok well she said that since Knights birthday is coming up here pretty soon she will tell him then." "Oh Yeah I will be 13 next month. I totally forgot. Oh hey uncle. I'm sorry to say but every time I see auntie I will feel sick until I know what is going on. Is there a way we can keep a distance for awhile?" "I'll tell you what. I'll talk to Ms. Sun see if she can take you in until at least you start school ok? Remember it's the beginning of the year. If money is the issue I will pay her to look after you. Also I promise not to leave your sister with Quinn I will take her to a neighbors house ok?" "Thanks uncle that's a relief." "OK now. But that will have to be after shopping. You will have to bear it until then. Can you?" "Ha I will try." "Ok then."
Finally it was time for bed. Knight didn't look so good. He is usually fine the next morning anyway so they could go shopping.
It was time to leave. The adults walked while the kids were on the horses. "We went to the first shop which was clothes and since Auntie walked off somewhere Knight was ok. "Ok got what I needed uncle." "OK next stop supplies then we will eat at a stall then go home." "Sounds good uncle." Then we all went to supplies and got what we needed then back on the horses to stop at a stall. I got my food at a place with fish. I like fish. My sister got one with soba noodles she likes that. Once we were done we headed home.
"Ok kids. Tomorrow I will take Knight to the place we promised ok? Also when school starts he would only be able to stay on the weekends." "Yes I understand uncle thank you. The doctor said the more I get sick the more my immune system gets tired and its harder for my body to heal." Luckily we were in his room alone. "Ok I will talk to the doctor while you visit tomorrow ok?" "Ok uncle." We were so full from lunch none of us ate dinner since it was a late one.
The next morning it was time to leave for Ms. Sun's place. I had my things packed a day before. He got on our horses and Auntie waved. We all waved back except for me. She understood though.
We finally got there and Zee's soon to be boyfriend started running out. "Zee!" "Oh easy now. Its only been 2 days. You miss me already?" "Haha funny." "Is your mom home kids?" "Yeah she is inside." "OK thanks." So he went in and met Ms. Sun.
"Hello Ms. Sun." "Oh hello Bain. How has It been?" "Well not good I'm afraid." "Oh what happened?" Then he told her about Knight being sick when he saw his aunt but not why. That he would talk to the doctor to get more info. "I see. Well the reason I couldn't take the boys in is money is tight. Its hard enough feeding the 3 of us." "I see. Well I was thinking at least until he starts school the beginning of next month he can stay here. I will pay you of course." "Really? Oh thank you sir. It would be a big help. I would love to watch Knight as much as I could." "I understand. Once school starts he will only be coming over on the weekends at least until his birthday and see how that goes." "Oh that's right. His birthday is coming up soon huh." "Well then do you have any plans for them?" "I do and I was willing if you and your family will be willing to make it." "Of course we will do our best. Forgive us if we are late though." "Oh its fine." "Oh good and where is this going to take place?" "Oh its at my house. We are having a barbeque" "Oh sounds good. We will do our best to get there." "Ok well I will be off to see the doc Zee should be fine she had a big breakfast." "Hehe alright. I know how much that girl can eat." So Zee stayed and Uncle left.
"Hello. Is a doctor Grant here?" "Yes just a moment please." She got a phone and she pressed speaker Dr Grant you have a visitor Dr. Grant you have a visitor thank you." The she hung up and she said, "He will be with you shortly." "Thank you maam."
So he sat down and waited then about 20 minute Later the doctor came to the receptionist. "Hello sir. I am the guest." "Oh Bain haven't seen you in awhile what's going on?" "Not much. Did Knight and Zee's father put me on the list to give info in case of emergency?" "Let me see." "Yes he sure did. Do you need his charts for something?" "Actually yes I need a copy also I need to talk privately." "Well luckily its almost closing time I have no more patients so come follow me."
So Bain followed him to his office. "So Bain what can I do for you? I heard about their father that sucks. So did you take them in?" "Yeah I did." "I see the boy got sick again didn't he?" "Yeah he did. Can you tell me more about his condition?" "Yeah. He started coming shortly after his mother died. It wasn't long after his sister was born so he was only 3. It got bad when he was 3 there were few times he had go to the hospital." "I see how did they keep him calm from getting sick so much?" "Well when he was living with his dad he was taking medications then he was getting better He was fine until recently I guess when he moved with you. Did something trigger his memory of his mother over there?" "Well actually." Uncle Bain had to tell him what Quinn told him. "I see. So are you going to keep him at Ms. Sun's for awhile is that why you are here?" "Yeah at least until he starts school and on the weekends until his birthday and see what happens. "I see. Well be careful he doesn't get sick to often. I already told his father that his immune system gets to tired it will be harder to get better." "Yeah that is what he told me as well." "Well I will give you a copy of his medical history hang tight." "Thank you sir." He nodded. It took about an hour for him to come back.
"Ok here you go. Hope you keep that kid as healthy as possible." "I will do my best sir thank you." Then he went back to Ms. Sun's place. "Hello Ms. Sun I best be going now. I'll be taking Zee with me." "Ok well see you later." "Bye Ms. Sun. Bye brother stay healthy." "I will try sis you too." I waved to all of them and we went back on our horses on home.
"How was the doc uncle?" "Well its as your brother said. Since he was 3 not long after you were born is when the symptoms started. He said they got better before he moved here." "Yeah dad got rid of a lot of stuff mom had he only kept pictures of hers and stuff meaningful to him from mom and gave me some things as well. He mostly kept pictures." "I see. That is good. So seeing things like people looking like your mom and seeing things similar to what she had sets them off the doctor said." "Yes its true. That is why dad did that." "Well depending on how things go I'm afraid I won't be able to be with her anymore. I can't just leave you all on the streets and she has a place to go." "Oh uncle don't do this. He can take his medicine again. It kept him safe as long as he was taking them." "Yes but if he forgets then he can get sick or worse I can't let that happen I'm sorry." "Well I guess that is your choice uncle. I know when things got bad at home dad would start taking us to church. Ms. Sun always took us to church." "Maybe going this weekend would be the best we need to pray for your brothers health and being able to find your father." "Yes I think its best." "Ok then. I start work back up tomorrow so after that I will introduce you to our neighbor she has a girl slightly younger than you are." "Oh cool. I'd love to meet her." "I'm sure you would."
Finally the next day came. Uncle took me in the morning since he worked in the mornings till dinner. Since dad went missing he has been going out looking for father instead of coming to dinner and Zee waited for him at the neighbors house. It was quite fun.
By the time uncle came and got Zee it was already bed time. He saw her face and she looked exhausted. "I'll take her tonight but since I will be coming back this late do you mind keeping her until morning?" "Sure we don't have a problem we love her." "Oh thanks a bunch. As long as I am working that is." "Oh of course." Then he carried her in princess style and laid her in bed and covered her up. He kissed her forehead and said, "Goodnight Zee. Pleasant dreams. Things will get better. I swear it." Then he ran his fingers through her hair for a bit then kissed her one more time and left her room quietly.
"She reminds you of your sister doesn't she." "Yeah she looks so similar not in looks but the way she acts and sleeps. Sometimes I think she may be her reincarnation. I never actually believed in that crap but now I actually might start. Once things calm down hopefully by the time Knights birthday comes along then I want to look into adoption. Their father may never be found and they need someone other than us. He needs a brother and she needs a sister." "Yes I know. It will all work out. Even if it doesn't I understand. If I have to leave I will willingly do so just let me know ok?" "I'm sorry Quinn. I know its hard on you. Its hard on all of us." Bain hugged his wife and kissed her head.
Then next morning Bain went to work and Zee when to the neighbors again and it happened all week that she stayed over so he could look for their father. On the last day Bain had found something he thought might belong to their father. He brought it back with him. The next morning he would show it to Zee.
Finally that Morning came and he knocked on the neighbors door. "Oh Bain hello. You headed to work? No its my day off but I need to show something to Zee and I have something to do. I will pick her up around dinner time ok?" "Oh ok. I'll go get her." "Thank you." "Zee your uncle needs to see you come down for a minute." "OK be right down."
She came running down to see uncle. "Uncle I've missed you." "Woah I guess you have sorry for working so much." "Its ok its for father. So what's up. Actually its about your father." "What is it?" "Does this belong to him? I found it towards the bottom of the mountain." "Yes! That's fathers! Is that blood? No. Is father gone?" "Woah hang on don't think the worst. I think I have seen him with this before that is why I ask. At work or when he is thinking he clings this in his hand. He says its good luck." "SO his hand can just be hurt then. Please be ok father." Since its my day off I will go further down the mountain tomorrow after church I will look again. You will stay with the neighbors I have discussed it with them." "Uncle I hope you find him soon. I want so see more of you." "I know Zee. Once your brother moves back in here you will." I nodded. "Good luck uncle find more clues about dad ok?" "I will do my best." Then he went out again. But found nothing. He came back for Zee and brought her home.
"Did you find anything uncle?" "Not this time honey. Why don't you hold onto this for him. So when he gets back you can give it to him." "OK thank you uncle."
