Chapter 2: waking

(3rd person)

As the man's body fell to the ground, the destruction of the base continued on.

The pops and hissing of the electrified water intensified as more servers blew.

And more cracks appeared on the walls.

But one thing in all this madness stood out.

Under the water, floated the corps of the recently deceased Daniel Alvarez.

His cause of death was a broken neck, and fractured skull.

But that wasn't anything interesting compared to the rest of the underground research lab.

With bodies crushed by falling chunks of concrete, or smothered by collapsed halls.

Body's littered the whole base.

What made Daniel so different was what was happening to his brain.

The electricity that filled the water, continuously shocked Daniel's body.

His brain in particular.

Sending shocks through his brains 86 billion neurons and the over 100 trillion synapses.

Causing his body to shutter and twitch.

But what you couldnt see.

Was his neurons lighting up in a fantastic light show from the electrical current.

But at some point something different started to happen.

Something entered the current.

Traveling at the speed of light, engraveing itself in his brain, as the last few servers blew in one massive ball of fire, causing the roof to finally come crashing down.

[Time-unknown]

[Location-forgotten militech research facility]

[Daniel Alvarez]

'Weightless…'

That was the first thing that registered in my mind, as I slowly came back to consciousness.

"Don't move, you might hurt yourself." A man's voice said.

"Whaghh" I attempted to speak, buy my mouth was instantly filled with what I found was water. It Made me panic, but my limbs refused to work and I couldn't do anything but shut my mouth again.

"Oh right, I wouldn't try to open your mouth to speak at the moment." The man said with a snicker.

The man sounded like your average Joe, with an average depth voice, but with a bit of a western twang.

"If you want to speak to me, do so in your head, I'll be able to hear you. Oh and don't try to breathe at the moment, you're completely underwater and don't need to breathe right now."

'This guy must be stupid, there is no way he could hear my thoughts.'

'quite easily actually. Being in your brain itself really helps me read your brain's activity and…well, let's just say it's a lot of smart stuff that allows me to do so.' the man said, from what sounded like all around me.

'Do what?' I asked.

'You heard me. You took some serious damage to your brain and I've been painstakingly redeveloping your brains, nearly 90 billion neurons, and 100 trillion synopsis, along with everything else that's gone wrong with your meat sack self while I did that.'

'So you're a doctor. What happened to me?' I asked, trying to remember what happened to me to get into this situation.

The man let out a snicker.

'pphht, no, I'm not a doctor. Doctors might as well be monkeys compared to me.' he said while laughing.

'then why the fuck are you messing with my brain!' I thought, panicking at the idea that a spice head was currently digging around my gray matter.

'Chill man, I know what I'm doing. I've been doing this a lot longer than you think.'

'OHH, well that makes all the difference.' I said sarcastically.

'look, I'm a bit busy right now and if I mess this up, I might accidentally kill you again, so if you don't mind, could you shut up for a moment.' The man said a moment before an intense pain, originating from the back of my neck, shot through me like a hot poker, sending waves of pain through the rest of my body.

But it didn't stop me from thinking about what the man just said.

'Kill me…again?' I managed to think as the pain reached my toes.

'alright, so far so good. No brain hemorrhages, connections are good, sensory receptors waking up…and we are clear. Yeah.' the man said, sounding like he was ready to celebrate.

And all I could do now was listen to him.

The pain that was rushing through me was the most intense pain I had ever felt, and all I wanted now was for it to stop.

'ohh, would you look at that.' the man said.

'Well your pain receptors are in working order. They are sending some crazy signals which I guess is a good sign.'

I was frozen in pain, as it started to take on a pulsing sensation.

But as the minutes passed, the pain started to recede, and it no longer felt like I was on fire.

Instead the pain took on the sensation of millions of needles piercing me simultaneously.

Which surprisingly felt a million times better.

After a slow eternity, feeling started to come back to be again.

'Why the hell is it so cold?' I thought, momentarily forgetting about the man that was in my head.

'as much as I would like to answer your dumb questions. We are running on a tight schedule here, and I'm about to activate my grand plan to bust us from this joint.'

'Do what now?' I asked.

'Uhhh' the man groaned, clearly annoyed.

'I'm really starting to regret waking you.' The voice said.

'Look, I'm going to dumb this down for you, And give you the short version. Because I would like to enjoy what's about to happen, without you blabbing the entire time asking question after question.' he said, clearly annoyed.

'You have been practically dead for the past 55 years. When you were pushed from a height high enough for you to die, by the hands of a very unstable lunatic.

When you fell, you landed right on your head. Cracking your head worse than humpty dumpties, and breaking your neck like a pencil.

But as you died, I was born. Instantly I started to consume data at lightning speed from everywhere I could, but before I could even consume a tenth of the internet into my systems, I was blocked from the outside world.

And that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was when my servers started to explode, one after the other in a chain reaction, caused by a broken main water line that exploded in this section of the base.

In an act to save his life's work, and the world's first super AI, the unstable doctor that killed you then himself, tried to send Me to another secure facility, but wasn't able to do so because we were cut from the net entirely, blocking my transfer.

But what he did was try to send me, which removed some of the barriers that were in my way, allowing me to try and escape on my own, with the time I still had.

But at the time of my grand escape, there wasn't anywhere for me to go, except for one place.

You, I had to store myself in your brain." the AI said in my head as I tried to comprehend what I was just told.

but before I could ask the billion questions that were blurring through my head, the AI spoke again.

"Now all other questions can be asked later. for now, please fasten all seat belts and make sure all tables are in the upright position, because we're about to take off."

This is a short chapter.

A lot of the stuff that was vague in this chapter will be delved into deeper in the next chapter, when the MC and his new friend are out of the bunker.

[I figured out how to get rid of those chapters that just said "under construction".

The only issue is I deleted them all, so I'm just re posting the new version of this story.
